The Rangers have released John Patterson, according to MLB.com. The veteran, who was signed to a minor-league deal after being released by the Nationals, is expected to sidelined for the rest of the season by a sore forearm.

Our View:Patterson is worth tracking because of what he's accomplished in the past, but it's pretty clear he'll never again be what he once was.

As often happens with injured pitchers, John Patterson suffered a setback on Wednesday as he had to be shut down during his second start after experiencing soreness in his right forearm, according to MLB.com. "He was not happy with the way the ball was coming out of his hand, and he had some pain in his forearm again," Rangers pitching coach Mark Connor said. "Everything was going well until that second start."

Our View:Patterson is a long shot to add much of anything to the Rangers in the first half of the season, and at this point his ability to add anything at any point has to be in question.

John Patterson may join the team for the weekend to toss a bullpen session for pitching coach Mark Connor, but GM Jon Daniels said it will likely be May 1 before Patterson is ready to join a minor league club, this according to the Dallas Morning News. He can take his release if he's not back in the majors by June 15.

According to the Star-Telegram the Texas Rangers have agreed on a minor league contract with former first-round pick John Patterson . Patterson decided to sign with Texas because pitching coach Mark Connor was with Arizona when Patterson signed with the Diamondbacks. The hard-throwing right-hander will start on the Rangers farm and build up his arm strength.

According to the Rangers team website, the club is close to agreeing with right-handed pitcher John Patterson, who was released by the Nats earlier this week. The Rangers will reportedly offer Patterson a minor league deal. Kevin Millwood, Vicente Padilla, Jason Jennings, Kason Gabbard and Luis Mendoza are the current arms projected to fill out the Texas starting rotation, but any progress by Patterson would immediately qualify him to enter the mix. In the fantasy corner, pitching in the American league, in hitter-friendly Arlington, won't spike is value.
