Kelvim Escobar had shoulder surgery and is now looking forward to the next stage of his attempt to come back from a tear in his right labrum, according to MLB.com. "I feel good. Now I know I have to focus on one thing, and that's my rehab. I'll put everything into it and dedicate myself to getting back on the mound next season."

Our View:Estimates for his return to action range from nine to 12 months, so it will be quite a while before we will know if Escobar will be able to regain his once filthy stuff.
July 22, 2008
Kelvim Escobar's surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder will happen on July 29, the AP reports.

Our View:We'll have a better timetable after the operation, but Escobar could easily be looking at a full year of rehab.
July 11, 2008
The Orange County Register reports that Kelvim Escobar has opted to have surgery on the torn labrum in his right shoulder.

Our View:The team, as well as Escobar, delayed this decision for a while and it may come back to haunt them. He will miss nine to 12 months.
July 9, 2008
GM Tony Reagins and agent Peter Greenberg have agreed to put off a decision regarding Kelvim Escobar undergoing season-ending surgery, according to the LA Times. The decision will be put off until at least Thursday. Angels' physician Lewis Yocum and Mets' orthopedist David Altchek have checked Escobar's torn labrum. The doctors have spoken on the phone and are scheduled to attend the same conference this week, where they will discuss Escobar's situation. Reagins said, "Once that occurs, a decision will be made if we move forward on surgery and the timing of the surgery. I wouldn't say surgery is the option, but it is an option."

Our View:Surgery would sideline him for at least a year, hence ending his bid to return to the Angels in 2008.

It is becoming more likely that Kelvim Escobar will undergo season ending shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum, according to the LA Times. Escobar worked to strengthen his shoulder and made two starts in the minor leagues, but the last time he picked up a ball he was unable to complete 10 throws because of discomfort. Manager Mike Sciosca said, "It will be Escobar's decision and we're going to support it. It's a little disappointing. He's worked very hard to get to this point. But if surgery's the only thing that's going to get him back to where he needs to be, then it's obviously something he's going to need to look at."

Our View:Surgery would sideline him for at least a year, hence ending his bid to return to the Angels in 2008.
