The Angels will consider Pat Burrell for first base if they cannot re-sign Mark Teixeira, according to BaseballProspectus.com.

Our View:Burrell would be better suited to cover first base as he is not solid defensively as an outfielder. His power numbers could be compromised by leaving launching pad Citizens Bank Park, but his RBI totals would remain solid in an efficient Angels' lineup.
November 30, 2008
The Phillies are not likely to offer Pat Burrell arbitration, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View:If he accepted arbitration, he would be inked for 2009 and likely would receive a raise from the $14 million he made in 2008. The club feels they can acquire a better option in left field, such as Raul Ibanez.
November 20, 2008
The Rays are believed to have some interest in outfielder Pat Burrell, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View:As of now, the Dodgers and Giants are viewed as potential landing spots for Burrell, but he could be on the Rays' radar, depending on how the market sorts out through the off-season.
November 19, 2008
The Mets covet a right-handed bat, but are reportedly not high on Pat Burrell, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View:Rosenthal previously listed the Dodgers and Giants as potential landing spots for Burrell, who blasted 33 homers with the World Series champs in 2008.
November 18, 2008
The Phillies issued Pat Burrell parameters for a new contract, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View:Rosenthal sees the Dodgers and Giants being possible landing spots for Burrell, both teams of which could use an offensive boost to their outfield, namely in the power department.
November 6, 2008
Pat Burrell officially filed for free agency on Thursday though he still hopes to remain with the Phillies, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Burrell has holes in his swing and can go into terrible slumps, but he has hit at least 29 home runs with 86 or more RBI over the past four seasons and will provide someone with a nice power bat when he eventually signs.
October 31, 2008
Pat Burrell has reportedly turned down a two-year, $22 million offer to remain with the Phillies, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View:Burrell is not a good outfielder, but will garner favorable interest as a free agent, as he belted 33 homers over 157 games in 2008 for the World Champion Phillies.
October 9, 2008
Pat Burrell's sixth inning solo home run was the difference in the Phillies' 3-2 win over the Dodgers. The Phillies now lead the NLCS 1-0.

Our View:Burrell is battling a somewhat balky back but was 2-for-4 on Thursday. He hit 33 home runs in the regular season.
October 5, 2008
Pat Burrell went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and four RBI as the Phillies beat Milwaukee on Sunday to advance to the NLCS vs. the Dodgers.

Our View:Burrell was hitless in the series coming into Sunday's game. The Phillies can only hope that this is a sign of good things to come from the streaky hitter.
October 2, 2008
Pat Burrell stated that his previously ailing back is fine, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Burrell said, "With all the treatment and stuff and all the excitement of what we're doing, I don't think it will be a problem. The truth is I wouldn't have taken the field if I thought in any way I would jeopardize the team and the position we're in, because ultimately that's the most important thing. Do I want to play? Of course, but the most important thing is the team."

Our View:Burrell went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout in tonight's win over Milwaukee.
October 2, 2008
Pat Burrell was in the lineup a day after he left a workout with back discomfort. He went 0-for-2 with a walk and exited the game in the seventh inning.

Our View:Burrell will continue to start but will likely be a popular injury replacement in the late innings of the NLDS.
October 1, 2008
Pat Burrell has been cleared to play in Game 1 of the NLDS against Milwaukee, and is in the lineup in left field, according to the AP.

Our View:He left Tuesday’s workout after experiencing discomfort in his lower back, but was deemed ready to go today. He struggled down the stretch, but still finished the season with 33 homers.
September 30, 2008
Pat Burrell was forced from the Phillies batting practice on Tuesday due to a sore back, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:There is no word yet on whether or not Burrell will be out of the lineup on Wednesday, but his loss would be substantial given that he hit 33 home runs with 86 RBI this season. If he can't go, Geoff Jenkins or Matt Stairs would likely get the start.
September 22, 2008
Pat Burrell hit a three run bomb on Monday night, his 33rd long ball of the year. Chase Utley also knocked in his 100th run in the victory over the Braves.

Our View:Burrell had a great start to the year hitting .275 with 23 home runs by the All-Star break, but he has resembled Rob Deer since then hitting .206 with just 10 home runs in 59 games. Still, 33 home runs and 84 RBI give him his eighth straight season of at least 21 home runs, and in seven of those seasons he has knocked in at least 84 runs.
September 18, 2008
Pat Burrell hit his 32nd home run on the year Thursday night in the Phillies' 4-3 win over the Braves. Burrell's two-run home run came in the sixth inning with the game tied at two.

Our View:In the month of September Burrell is hitting .204 and has only hit two home runs. Burrell started the season on fire hitting 23 home runs before the All-Star break but fantasy owners can be happy with his production down the stretch. With the Phillies in the middle of the playoff push Burrell will see some meaningful at-bats.
September 9, 2008
Pat Burrell was not in the Phillies' starting lineup for the second time over a three-game span Monday due to a grave hitting slump, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Hitting coach Milt Thompson believes his struggles are more mental than physical and said, "He's pressing and trying too hard. We've got to get him to relax and go with the flow of the game."

Our View:Since August 6, Burrell has hit a major-league-worst .168 (18-for-107), dropping his overall average from .278 to .253. He has also failed to hit a homer in 14 straight games. Manager Charlie Manuel is unsure if Burrell will be in tonight's lineup.
September 2, 2008
The Phillies beat the Nationals 4-0, but Pat Burrell went hitless in four at-bats while striking out twice and is really scuffling at the plate.

Our View:Burrell was benched on Monday, but it did not seem to do any good, and only time will tell if he can snap out of it.
September 2, 2008
Pat Burrell, who did not start yesterday, did show a good sense of humor before the game. "I'm still available to come in defensively late in the game," Burrell told the team website. Burrell is of course typically replaced late in games for defensive purposes.

Our View:The left fielder is expected to start tonight in Washington.
September 1, 2008
Phillies outfielder Pat Burrell is slumping, and he was given the day off on Monday, with Matt Stairs starting in the outfield instead, according to Phillies.com.

Our View:Burrell has five hits in his past 37 at-bats, so he got the day off. He should be back in the lineup soon, as his power is an important aspect to the Phillies offense.
August 31, 2008
Phillies outfielder Pat Burrell is really struggling, and with an 0-for-4 performance on Saturday, is just 3-for-29 with one RBI in his past six contests, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View:Burrell's average stands at .258, but he does have 30 home runs, 76 RBI and an OBP of .376, so fantasy owners should be able to withstand a small slump.
August 29, 2008
Pat Burrell went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Friday's loss to the Cubs in Chicago. Both of his hits were singles.

Our View:He needed a solid performance, as he only registered two hits over his previous five games.
August 23, 2008
Pat Burrell had a monster day Saturday, picking up three hits, including his 30th homer of the season, while driving in five runs in a win over the Dodgers.

Our View:Burrell's RBI double came on a lazy fly ball to center that Matt Kemp lost in the sun, but that certainly doesn't diminish his terrific game.
August 17, 2008
The bulk of the work was done on the mound, but Philadelphia outfielder Pat Burrell insured the proper offense was in place to secure the 2-1 win over San Diego. Burrell went 2-for-3 at the dish with one walk and his 29th homer of the season to total one RBI and one run scored on the night.

Our View:Burrell has been struggling through August, hitting just .133 with two homers and five RBIs. This was his first multi-hit game since July 29th.
August 14, 2008
Pat Burrell is having a rough August which continued Thursday in the Phillies 3-1 loss to the Dodgers. Burrell went 0-for-3 in the game with a strikeout.

Our View:Burrell is hitting just .125 (5-for-40) with one home run and four RBI in August. His batting average has dropped 16 points since August 1, from .280 to it's current .264. Fantasy owners may want to think about sitting him for a while until he can straighten out a bit.
July 22, 2008
Pat Burrell will bat third tonight against the Mets on Tuesday.

Our View:Burrell hits the Mets hard. He has 42 home runs and 104 RBI in his career against the Metropolitans.
July 21, 2008
The Philadelphia Inquirer states that Pat Burrell is unhappy with being removed late in Sunday's game against the Marlins. He said, "I'm upset, absolutely. I'm upset, and I have been for a long time. It's not personal. I don't want to ever come out of close games." On Sunday, Burrell was replaced by Eric Bruntlett in the bottom of the eighth with the Phillies ahead, 2-1. Cole Hamels gave up a game-tying home run in the inning. Burrell had been 5- for-12 with two doubles and two home runs in the series. His would-be spot in the lineup came up in the top of the 11th, and Bruntlett hit a leadoff pop-up to second, dropping his season average to .231.

Our View:Manager Charlie Manuel routinely replaces Burrell with a speedier defender when the Phillies have leads late in games. Manuel is a good skipper and had good intentions, but you can't fault Burrell for being angry, as he has 25 homers and 59 RBI for the season, with a .280 average.
July 19, 2008
Pat Burrell had a pair of solo homers and a double in the Phillies' loss to the Marlins Saturday. He now has 25 bombs on the year.

July 13, 2008
Pat Burrell hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning which led to the Phillies beating the Diamondbacks 6-3. It was home run number 23 on the year for him.

June 24, 2008

Our View:This give Burrell five homers with nine RBIs through June thus far.
June 10, 2008
The Phillies suffered the 5-4 loss to Florida this evening with outfielder Pat Burrell serving as the leader of their effort. Burrell went 2-for-4 with a double and his 16th home run of the season.

June 7, 2008
Pat Burrell hit his 15th home run of the year, and he also added his 17th double on Saturday for the Phillies.

Our View:.281-15-41 is where Burrell currently sits, which puts him on pace to challenge his performance of last season (.256-30-97). Burrell won't bring a high average, but his run production will continue to be substantial.
May 28, 2008
Pat Burrell is back in the lineup Wednesday after missing last night's game with a stiff neck. Greg Dobbs, who picked up two hits and two RBI last night in place of Burrell, returns to the bench.

Our View:Burrell's average is under .200 for the last two weeks, so hopefully a night off gave him some time to refocus.
May 27, 2008

May 22, 2008
After saying that Pat Burrell wouldn't play on Thursday night and probably not on Friday as well because of his recent slump, Charlie Manunel called his name late and Burrell responded with a pinch-hit home run for the Phils in the bottom of the eighth for the winning run.

Our View:So much for that night off. Just like it's hard for you to rest a 30 homer bat, so it is for a manager, and tonight Burrell showed why he really should be on the field every day no matter how he is going at the plate.
May 22, 2008
Pat Burrell was given Thursday off due to a protracted slump, and he might also be out of the lineup on Friday, according to MLB.com. "He's not seeing the ball real well right now," manager Charlie Manuel said. "He's chasing breaking balls. We just thought we'd give him a couple of days off and see how he was doing.

Our View:Burrell, who hit .326 in April is three for his last 27 and 0-for-11 over his last three games dropping his average to .271. Look for Burrell to return this weekend and continue the slugging ways that have him on pace for well over 30 HR.
May 4, 2008
Pat Burrell went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two walks, and two RBI against the Giants on Sunday. The outfielder is up to 30 RBI through 32 games.

Our View:Pat the Bat hasn't driven in 100 runs since 2005, but he looks locked in and motivated this year. His fantasy owners are obviously pleased.
May 1, 2008

April 22, 2008
Phillies LF Pat Burrell may not have done much to help his strong batting average this evening, but he put the wood on the ball when it mattered most. Burrell hit a bases-clearing double in the 9th inning against Colorado reliever Manny Corpas to give Philadelphia the 8-6 win.

Our View:Burrell went just 1-for-4 at the plate with a walk, but the three RBIs in the ninth are what matter most.
