The Detroit Tigers are considering pursuing free-agent shortstop Alex Cora, according to the Detroit Free-Press.

Our View:Cora only played in 75 games with the Red Sox and hit .270 with only nine RBI.
October 20, 2008
The Red Sox would like to bring free agent-to-be Alex Cora back, but that's unlikely if they are unable to deal Julio Lugo, The Providence Journal reports.

Our View:The Red Sox will likely try to deal Lugo, since Jed Lowrie is their shortstop. Either way, Cora has zero fantasy value.
October 19, 2008
MLB.com reports that Alex Cora will start at shortstop over Jed Lowrie in tonight's Game 7 of the ALCS against the Rays.

Our View:It is Cora's second start of the series, and both have come with right-hander Matt Garza starting for the Rays. The left-handed-hitting veteran went 1-for-4 in Game 3, a 9-1 loss in which Garza got the victory. Lowrie has had a rough series, going 2-for-17.

Alex Cora will start at shortstop over Jed Lowrie in tonight's Game 3 of the ALCS against the Rays, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:He is batting ninth in the lineup. He has no power and declining speed, and made six errors in the regular season, with a .972 fielding percentage.
September 28, 2008
Alex Cora tripled in the 10th and went on to score the winning run as the Red Sox defeated the Yankees 4-3. He finished the night 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk.

Our View:It was Cora's second triple of the season. he played in 74 games for the Red Sox and while he provides them with some value off the bench, he is not a fantasy contributor.
September 25, 2008
Alex Cora left the Red Sox game on Thursday after being hit by a pitch.

Our View:Gil Velazquez came in to take over for Cora at shortstop.
July 5, 2008
Alex Cora will start at shortstop on Saturday in place of Julio Lugo, the Boston Globe notes.

Our View:FYI for fantasy owners with daily lineup changes. Lugo is in a bit of slump and doesn't have an extra-base hit since July 20.
June 24, 2008
Jeff Goldberg of the Courant News reports that Alex Cora is the emergency first baseman tonight while Kevin Youkilis recovers from an eye injury. Brandon Moss will start at first tonight.

Our View:Sean Casey is currently serving his suspension and David Ortiz is still recovering from his wrist injury, so the Sox are running thin on options.
May 6, 2008
Alex Cora will begin a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday. He is coming back from a sprained right elbow. Cora will play the middle infield on Wednesday and Friday but DH on Thursday, MLB.com explains.

Our View:We imagine Cora will return sometime early next week, and Jed Lowrie will probably have to head back to the minors.
April 18, 2008
Alex Cora had an MRI on his ailing right elbow and the results were positive in that there was nothing "alarming" in them, this according to the Providence Journal.

Our View:Cora, on the DL with the elbow injury, still doesn't know when he will be able to resume throwing, but at least surgery appears to have been ruled out.
April 17, 2008
Infielder Alex Cora was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday with a right-elbow sprain, according to the Providence Journal. He was scheduled to have an MRI but according to Francona the test could not be completed because Cora experienced a little anxiety in the tight quarters.

Our View:Cora is expected, at this point, to come off the DL when he is eligible.
April 16, 2008
Alex Cora has officially been placed on the 15-day DL due to his sore elbow, according to the Boston Globe. The team has called up Joe Thurston from Triple-A Pawtuckett to take his place on the roster.

Our View:Cora held no fantasy value for this season.
April 16, 2008
Alex Cora is headed for the DL, according to The Boston Herald. He could be put on the shelf as soon as today due to his sore elbow. He stated, "If I’m not 100 percent, I’m not going to play, so why be here, you know. I get healthy and I don’t have to be thinking, ‘Oh, I have to show up and play tomorrow.’ I don’t have to push myself too hard. When I’m healthy, I’m healthy." The team hasn't decided if they want to replace him with another infielder or pitcher on the roster.

Our View:The 32-year old infielder holds no fantasy value for this season.
April 15, 2008
The Boston Globe is reporting that it's likely that Alex Cora will be placed on the disabled list. Though there was no definitive news or confirmation according to the note.

Our View:Terry Francona told the paper it might be as much as a week before Cora is ready on Tuesday. However, Francona had said the infielder had "no limitations" this past weekend. With the ability to retroactively place Cora on the DL -- expect the move to take place tonight or tomorrow.
April 10, 2008
The Boston Herald is reporting that Alex Cora pulled up lame after making a throw over to first during pre-game workouts this afternoon. After bending over in obvious pain he attempted one more throw over to first. After coming up well short of first with the toss, Cora returned to the clubhouse to get his arm checked. There was no word yet whether Cora was starting for the injured Mike Lowell tonight, but as of now it doesn't look like the veteran will be available.

Because the Puerto Rican Professional Baseball League was canceled, Alex Cora spent the offseason training with Alex Cintron in the Miami area instead of playing ball, according to the Boston Herald. "For the first time since 1996," said Cora, "I didn’t play the whole year around. It was a lot different, but I think it’s good." Cora added that this offseason he cleared up a matter related to a bench warrant served in 2000 for a 1999 drunken driving incident. "It’s something that happened a long time ago," he said. "A lot of stuff got misunderstood."
