The Chicago Tribune reports that Aramis Ramirez is expected to be named winner of the National League Hank Aaron Award, presented by major league baseball for offensive statistics, prior to Game 4 of the World Series Sunday night.

Our View:Ramirez hit .289 with 27 homers and 111 RBI. He is a surprise winner, considering he did not even have the best offensive statistics in the National League at his position, third base. The Mets' David Wright hit 33 homers and drove in 124 runs while hitting .302. And Ramirez's numbers pale in comparison to the Cardinals' Albert Pujols, who hit .357 with 37 homers and 116 RBI. But for the first time, fans voting at MLB.com picked the winner, which explains the reason Ramirez won.

Aramis Ramirez has been the most consistent power bat in a stacked Cubs lineup all season, according to the Cubs Official Website. "He's been our anchor all year and without him we wouldn't be in this position," teammate Jim Edmonds said. "He's about as solid a No. 4 hitter as you get in this league."

Our View:Ramirez set career bests with 44 doubles, 74 walks and a .380 OBP. He also hit .423 in "late and close" situations to lead baseball, on his way to socking 27 dingers while driving in 111 runs. He will be a key cog in the Cubs attempt to end their massive World Series drought.

Aramis Ramirez hit a 10th-inning home run on Wednesday to propel the Cubs to a 9-6 victory over the Mets. He drew three walks in the game and finished the night 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Our View:The slimmed down 2008 version of Ramirez has not lost much of his power. His 27 home runs and 11 RBI are more than last season's totals.
September 17, 2008
Aramis Ramirez finally hit his 25th home run on Wednesday night in the Cubs' 6-1 loss to the Brewers. The home run was Ramirez's first one since August 28.

Our View:Ramirez has had a home run drought in the last few weeks but he continues to drive in runs. His RBI total is up to 108 on the year and his average is climbing to .285.
September 9, 2008
Aramis Ramirez has been taking some criticism about his defense lately but he has not been taking the fielding woes to the plate. Ramirez was 3-for-4 with two RBI on Tuesday in a losing effort against the Cardinals.

Our View:Ramirez has been solid all year with over 100 RBI and 24 home runs.
September 8, 2008
Aramis Ramirez returned to the Cubs' lineup Sunday after being taken out of Saturday's game as a precaution for the quadriceps tightness he has been battling lately, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View:Ramirez should be kept in lineups this week and should remain a solid source of homers (24) and RBI (100). The Cubs are off today and start a three-game set at St. Louis on Tuesday.
August 30, 2008

August 16, 2008
Aramis Ramirez is out of the lineup again on Saturday night due to a bruised left hip, the Palm Beach Post reports. Mark DeRosa will start at third base. Ramirez remains day-to-day.

Our View:The injury comes at a bad time, as A-Ram is hitting .390 in August. Ramirez has surpassed 145 games only once in the past four seasons, but he still has a shot to hit that total this year. Let's hope Aramis can get and stay healthy over the final weeks.
August 15, 2008

Cubs slugger Aramis Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Chicago's 8-0 win over Atlanta.

Our View:Ramirez is having a great year and is tearing it up in August with a batting average of .343, which should instill confidence in fantasy owners who saw him hit just .228 in July.
July 29, 2008
Aramis Ramirez went 4-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI, helping lead the Cubs to a 7-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Our View:Going into the game, Ramirez was hitting just .200 for the month, so this may be the type of performance that will break him out of the slump.
July 26, 2008
Aramis Ramirez showed a sign of reversing his poor July fortunes today, going 2-for-5 with his 18th homer of the season as his Cubs fell 3-2 in 12 innings against the Marlins. Ramirez totaled two RBIs on the day.

Our View:Ramirez came in hitting just .176 on the month of July, and while the team failed to win and the performance will only lower that average, the small burst is more than he has shown in some time. The hope is that it leads to better days.
July 25, 2008
Aramis Ramirez continued his poor July with an 0-for-4 against Florida today, including strikeouts.

Our View:Ramirez is only hitting .176 on the month, and his average has dropped from .285 to .267. This is likely just a bad streak, and he should snap out of it.
July 24, 2008

July 9, 2008
The Cubbies earned the 5-1 win this evening against the Reds on pitching, but third baseman Aramis Ramirez made the offense work to insure the job got done. Ramirez went 2-for-3 with one walk, his 22nd double and 16th home run on the season to total two RBIs and one runs scored on the night.

Our View:Ramirez hit just .265 through June and thus far is on track for similar numbers in July, though he has already earned eight RBIs and is well on pace to eclipse the 17 he posted last month.
July 6, 2008
Aramis Ramirez has found his stroke since returning from the Dominican Republic earlier in the week. On Sunday, he went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run scored.

Our View:Ramirez is an All-Star for a reason. Hitting cleanup in Chicago affords him a ton of RBI opportunities. His three on Sunday give him a total of 60 on the year.
July 5, 2008
Aramis Ramirez powered his 15th long ball of the year on Saturday and finished with two RBI for the Cubs leaving him with 57 RBI on the season.

Aramis Ramirez will miss the next three games to deal with a family matter in the Dominican Republic, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View:Ramirez initially asked for four days off but was told he could take three. He is scheduled to rejoin the Cubs Thursday for the finale of a four-game set in San Francisco. The team is expected to use Mark DeRosa and Ronny Cedeno at third while Ramirez is away, who currently leads the Cubs with 55 RBI. Aramis Ramirez tied the game with a home run in the seventh inning, then won it in the bottom of the ninth with his second home run of the day in the Cubs matchup with cross town rivals the White Sox.

Our View:With a .293-12-47 line, Ramirez is once again in line to be selected to the mid-summers classic. A notoriously streaky hitter, Ramirez is a near lock for 25 HR and 90 RBI, numbers he has reached in each of the past five seasons.
June 15, 2008

May 19, 2008
Aramis Ramirez had three hits, including his seventh home run, on his way to two runs scored and two RBI.

Our View:Ramirez continues to be a third baseman who's name doesn't come close to matching his value. Year in and year out the guy gives you 30 bombs and 100 ribbies, you can pretty much bank it, marking him as one tremendous option at third base.
May 6, 2008
Cubs 3B Aramis Ramirez put in work to help Chicago prevail 3-0 over the Cincinnati Reds this evening. Ramirez went 1-for-3 with a walk, collecting his 23rd RBI of the season and adding a run scored.

Our View:Ramirez enjoyed a couple of days off and has struggled a bit with strike outs. Fantasy owners are sure to note his lack of power. He hasn't hit a homer since April 23rd.
May 6, 2008
Aramis Ramirez is listed in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds. He tells the Chicago Sun-Times that his sore left wrist isn't 100 percent, but he's good enough to play. Ramirez took a pitch off the joint on Friday.

Our View:We're less amazed with A-Ram's status than the fact that the Sun-Times uses Twitter to provide updates. Most papers are still trying to adapt to the whole world of blogs. Anyway, it sounds mildly safe to use Ramirez in fantasy lineups.
May 5, 2008

The former Pirate third baseman had three hits and scored two runs to go along with this two run long ball. For the second consecutive game, the Cubs used seven pitchers. The Pirates also used seven after employing eight on Monday. With Rich Hill and Matt Morris locking horns in the Thursday night series finale, look for both pitchers to be more efficient with their pitch count. The arms in both bullpens could use a day off on Thursday.
