Ronnie Belliard was hot over the second half of the 2008 season, but may serve as a backup to Anderson Hernandez at second base in 2009, according to beat reporter Bill Ladson on MLB.com.

Our View:That is assuming Belliard will remain with the club next season.

On Wednesday the Nationals announced that Ronnie Belliard's 2008 season is officially over. Belliard has been out since September 4 with an injured groin, according to the AP.

Our View:Belliard was swinging a good bat in the second half for the Nationals before he went down. If you were holding onto Belliard hoping he would come back, you can drop him now.

MLB.com reports that Ronnie Belliard, who was the hottest hitter on the Nationals since the All-Star break before he went down on September 4 with a tight groin, hasn't officially declared that his season is over, but he hasn't been doing any baseball activities, and he wants to play for the Dominican Republic's winter ball team in October. "I haven't been doing any running or anything," Belliard said. "It bothers me, and I know I can't run. As long as I can't run, I can't do anything. There's always a possibility [I can return], but I know we're not going to the playoffs, and there's really not much pressure to come back. If I'm good enough to play in the final week or so, I'll do it. If not, I won't."

Our View:If you're still holding onto Belliard, it's time to let go. Breaking up should always be so easy.

Ronnie Belliard may be done for the remainder of the season after sustaining a strained right groin in Thursday's game against Atlanta, according to the AP.

Our View:He will undergo an MRI today, but the team is not expecting him back this season.

Ronnie Belliard left the Nationals game in the seventh inning on Friday night with an injured right groin suffered while beating out a hit, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View:Kory Castro entered the game tonight, though if Belliard is out the team might turn to Aaron Boone at first base, at least until Dimitri Young returns next week.

The Dodgers have put in a waiver claim for Ronnie Belliard of the Nationals, according to the LA Times.

Our View:the Dodgers reportedly made the move to prevent Belliard from going to Arizona, who lost Orlando Hudson for the season due to injury.

Ronnie Belliard went 3-for-4 with two homers and five RBI Friday.

Our View:This makes nine HRs in 54 games for Belli. Not a bad pace at all for a second baseman. Don't get too excited though. He is hitting .226 on the season. His career numbers suggest that should come quite a bit in the second half, but don't bank on it.

There was plenty of offense on hand, but in the end it was Washington emerging victorious over the Marlins, 9-6. The Nats were led by third baseman Ronnie Belliard , going 2-for-4 with one walk, his ninth double and his seventh homer of the season, totaling four RBIs and two runs scored.

Our View:Belliard hit just .236 for the month of June but posted four homers and 11 RBIs along the way. Tonight he got off hot once again and appears to be surging towards top results.
June 22, 2008
Ronnie Belliard took Vincente Padilla deep on Sunday to pick up his fourth home run and 16th and 17th RBI of the season.

Our View:Belliard continues to see an increase in his workload over the past week due to the struggles of Felipe Lopez, but unfortunately for Belliard, his average continues to languish in the .220's though he does have five extra base hits in his last 10 appearances.
June 10, 2008
The Nationals welcomed second baseman Ronnie Belliard back this evening and he wasted no time in asserting his influence on the game, leading his team to a 7-6 win over Pittsburgh. Belliard went 3-for-4 at the plate with two homers, good for three RBIs on the night.

Our View:Belliard was activated from the DL yesterday and was quick to make the lineup. Tonight's home runs brings Belliard to four on the year.
June 10, 2008
Washington second baseman Ronnie Belliard is back in the lineup this evening, batting seventh in his first action since returning from the disabled list, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Belliard was activated on Monday after suffering a strained calf. He reports the leg is 100% healthy and the team is injecting him right back into action this evening.
June 9, 2008

Ronnie Belliard will play for Single-A Potomac on Monday night after a brief rehab stint at Double-A Harrisburg, according to the AP. Belliard, who is recovering from a strained left calf, will join the Nats during the three-game series in Pittsburgh, which begins Tuesday.

Our View:Felipe Lopez has really struggled at the dish lately, so Belliard should get significant playing time at second.
June 5, 2008
Ronnie Belliard, who is recovering from a strained left calf, will begin his rehab assignment today at Single-A Potomac, according to the AP.

Our View:The Nationals are yet to provide a timetable for his return. He was only hitting .194 over 67 at-bats this season, and held little to no fantasy value prior to landing on the DL back in Mid-may.
May 20, 2008
Ronnie Belliard has been placed on the 15-day DL, according to MLB.com. He was brought down with a left calf strain, and the move is retroactive to Friday. The club is expected to recall reliever Chris Schroder from Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday to fill Belliard's spot on the roster. Belliard said, "It's still sore right now, but I'm working on it. I'm going to take batting practice and do a little running. I'm going to go over there and be with my teammates. Right now, I'm kind of hurt. We'll take it day-by-day."

Our View:Belliard was only hitting .194 with two homers and nine RBI over 26 games played this season, and held little to no fantasy value prior to landing on the DL.
April 23, 2008
