Roy Halladay has been named the Jays' pitcher of the year for 2008 by the Toronto chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America, according to Slam Sports.

Our View:He earned the honor for a record sixth time by winning 20 games, with a 2.78 ERA and 1.05 WHIP.
November 19, 2008
There is speculation that the Jays will explore the market to see what they can get for ace hurler Roy Halladay, according to the Star-Ledger. He has two-years and $30 million left on his deal with the club.

Our View:The Dodgers are viewed as a potential match for Halladay. If the Dodgers did acquire Halladay, they would likely draw their attention away from CC Sabathia and focus on retaining Manny Ramirez.
September 25, 2008
Roy Halladay tied his career best with his ninth complete game of the season, this time coming against the New York Yankees. He allowed two runs and six hits while expending just 96 pitches on the evening.

Our View:Wihtout Cliff Lee, Halladay would almost certainly get the AL Cy Young. He finished the season 20-11 with a 2.78 ERA and the aforementioned nine complete games.
September 25, 2008
Blue Jays skipper Cito Gaston has agreed to a contract extension that will see him manage the team through 2010, according to the AP.

Our View:Gaston is 12 games over .500, at 48-36, since he took over for John Russell near the end of June.
September 20, 2008
Toronto defeated the Boston Red Sox 6-3 on Saturday, and Blue Jays hurler Roy Halladay picked up his 19th win of the year in the process. The big right-hander went six innings, giving up six hits and three runs while walking three and striking out three.

Our View:It wasn't the prettiest of performances, but makes up for his last start, also against the Red Sox, in which he took the loss after going seven innings and giving up just two runs.
September 14, 2008
Roy Halladay fell to 18-11 as he allowed just three runs, two earned, to the Red Sox over seven innings on Sunday. Halladay didn't walk a batter while striking out five.

Our View:Though he is just 2-2 against the Red Sox this season, his four starts have produced a 2.20 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP. Obviously, he has done his job in this matchup, as he has done all year regardless of the competition.
September 10, 2008
Roy Halladay failed in his bid for his 19th win as he was instead handed his 10th loss of the year as he allowed five runs over six innings against the White Sox.

Our View:Chicago entered tonight's matchup with the Jays batting just .144, but they produced 12 hits, including nine off Halladay. This was the first time in 10 starts that he allowed more than three earned runs as his ERA rose to 2.77, still the second best mark in the American League.
September 5, 2008
Roy Halladay picked up his 18th win of the season on Friday against the Rays. He threw seven innings, struck out seven and surrendered one earned run. He had been 1-3 with a 4.82 ERA in four starts against the Rays this season. Halladay, who is 10-3 in his past 13 starts, has never lost to the same team four times in one season.

Our View:Yet another excellent performance from Halladay who will be in the Cy Young conversation at the end of the season. He lowered his ERA to 2.64.
August 31, 2008

August 21, 2008
Roy Halladay notched his 15th win of the season, as the Blue Jays handed New York its worst loss of the season, 14-3 on Thursday night.

August 16, 2008
Roy Halladay tossed a complete game against the Red Sox on Saturday and improved to 14-9. The ace carried a shutout into the ninth inning, when he allowed a solo homer. Halladay finished with seven hits and one run against.

Our View:Doc isn't the frontrunner, but his name should be mentioned in Cy Young talk. He has now tossed eight complete games and ranks among the leaders in wins, ERA, WHIP, and BAA. Oh, and he's been excellent for fantasy teams.
August 9, 2008
Roy Halladay took the loss, and though he was not as sharp as usual, he still threw 6.2 innings, allowing one earned run and striking out six.

Our View:Halladay continues to roll, but came up a little short today. Don't hesitate to keep running him back out there in fantasy leagues.
August 7, 2008
Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston will be returning to the team next season, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Gaston has Toronto playing above .500 since he took over. Unfortunately for them, it's not nearly good enough to be in the A.L. East race, though they are just 7.5 games out in the wild card race.
August 4, 2008
Roy Halladay won game number 13 as Toronto defeated Oakland 6-1. He pitched eight innings, allowed just four hits, gave up one earned run and struck out eight.

Our View:Halladay now sits at 12-8 on the season with a 2.85 ERA. He has gone at least seven innings deep in five of his last six starts, allowing a combined 11 earned runs during that span.
July 24, 2008
Roy Halladay needed 119 pitches to get through seven innings on Thursday. He struck out six, walked one and gave up a single earned run to the Orioles.

Our View:After a terrible start on Saturday, Halladay bounced back well. Recent internet rumors suggest the Jays have talked to contending teams trying to gauge what they gould get in return for the former Cy Young award winner.
July 19, 2008
Roy Halladay was knocked around by the Rays Saturday, allowing five runs on eight hits and three walks over six innings.

Our View:Even Doc is human. Expect him to be back in top form next week in Baltimore.
July 16, 2008
Roy Halladay told the Globe and Mail that Toronto fans don't have to worry about him leaving. "They [the fans] shouldn't be worried I'm leaving," he said. "There's no chance if I have anything to say about it that I'm going anywhere. I can understand maybe disappointment with the way we're going. But as long as it's up to me, I'm staying." Halladay is under contract through 2010 and would be interested to extend his deal over the offseason.

Our View:The Jays would be nuts to trade the rock of their rotation, especially since he's making below-market value.
July 15, 2008
Roy Halladay threw one inning for the American League, and retired Lance Berkman, Albert Pujols and Chipper Jones, the three leading hitters in baseball. He had a little help, as Pujols hit a ball off the right-field wall but was subsequently thrown out at second by Ichiro Suzuki.

Our View:Halladay was throwing heat and he looked great, as usual. Even the pitch to Pujols wasn't bad, but Albert just reached out and got it.
July 14, 2008
Roy Halladay expressed some mild displeasure with the Blue Jays on Monday, saying he's tired of not competing for the postseason. "It's hard to keep doing the same things each year and it's hard to not see a progression," Halladay tells the Canadien Press. "We sit down every spring training and we talk about the same things and it's almost like a little bit of 'Groundhog Day.' That definitely gets frustrating, you want to talk about why we're succeeding, what we've done to help us get to the point of where we're at, and we just haven't done that." The ace adds that he's like to eventually play for a team that can win the World Series.

Our View:Halladay is under contract through 2010, but it almost sounds like he's gearing up to move on. He'll be 33 once his deal is up, and the Blue Jays appear to be stuck in neutral. Anyway, Roy is having a fantastic season despite the Blue Jays' issues. He'll remain a fantasy stud.
July 11, 2008

Our View:Halladay was at his normal, dominating best yet again tonight as he allowed just one free pass while striking out seven. He is completely locked in right now and has clearly reestablished himself as one of the top-15 hurlers in the game.
June 25, 2008
Roy Halladay was far from his best on Wednesday but he kept the Jays in the game after allowing five early runs eventually leaving with five runs allowed in 6.2 innings.

Our View:It was great to see Halladay back on the hill after taking that liner off his head in his last outing, and after that tough start he settled in and looked solid over the last four innings.
June 23, 2008
Roy Halladay took a brutal line drive off his temple on Friday, but is expected to make his next scheduled start, according to the Toronto Star. Halladay said, "I was a little dizzy walking off but I was fine in the clubhouse."

Our View:His CAT-scan came back fine, and he did some running before Sunday's game.
June 21, 2008
Roy Halladay has escaped unscathed despite getting drilled in the face by a line drive yesterday. "I feel fine. Everything checked out, so it's just back to normal," Halladay said on MLB.com. "I just got a little dizzy when I was walking off, but once I got up here, it went away. After that, I felt pretty normal and never really got any headaches or anything like that. I'm just fortunate, I guess."

Our View:The Jays could ill afford to have lost Doc with Shaun Marcum landing on the DL. Halladay will make his next start.
June 20, 2008
Roy Halladay pitched seven shutout innings against the Pirates before having to leave the game after taking a line drive off his right temple, according to the Globe and Mail. Halladay was not taken for x-rays and was in the clubhouse until the end of the game in the 11th inning.

June 8, 2008
Toronto RHP Roy Halladay picked up his eighth win of the season today, helping his team to a 5-4 win over Baltimore. Halladay went 7 2/3 innings to allow four runs (all earned) on eight hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.

May 28, 2008
Roy Halladay was in top form again Wednesday night, limiting the A's to one run on eight hits and a walk while striking out nine over eight innings. Halladay has gone at least eight innings an astonishing seven times in 11 starts this year.

Our View:Doc has a 2.93 ERA and 0.99 ERA on the year, yet he's just 6-5, which should be enough to convince you (if you haven't already been convinced) that the win statistic is vastly overrated.
May 23, 2008
Roy Halladay tossed his fifth complete game of the season Friday, limiting the Royals to one run on four hits while striking out five. His ERA now sits at 3.11 on the year.

Our View:Amazingly, Halladay has won just two of those five complete game efforts. Only two other pitchers (James Shields and Ben Sheets) have two complete games this season.
May 18, 2008
Roy Halladay came out of the bullpen for his first relief effort since July 22, 2001 as he pitched 2.1 innings in a game delayed by rain. Halladay was his typical dominating self allowing just one hit with no walks.

Our View:The ultimate teammate, this outing will likely cause the Jays to move back Halladay's next start, previously scheduled for Tuesday, until Saturday.
May 14, 2008
Roy Halladay, who has been the victim of poor run support all season getting only 3.14 runs per outing, got four runs from a Matt Stairs grand slam in the top of the first and held on for his fourth victory of the season. The Toronto horse allowed four runs on nine hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out eight in 6.2 innings of work.

Our View:Halladay's ERA spiked to 3.49 and his workman like WHIP took a small bump north to 1.09.
May 9, 2008
Roy Halladay lost for the fourth time in five starts and fell to 5-1 in his career against Cleveland. Halladay had pitched four straight complete games before exiting after six frames in Friday's game.

Our View:The 2003 winner fanned nine and had a 1-0 lead until the seventh, when Travis Hafner and Ryan Garko each singled.
May 9, 2008
Roy Halladay will aim to even up his record to 4-4 when he takes the hill against the Indians tonight, according to MLB.com. Halladay is 3-4 with a 3.00 ERA and 0.98 WHIP over 57 innings, with only seven walks allowed.

April 29, 2008
Roy Halladay will seek to even up his record to 3-3 when he takes on the Red Sox tonight, according to MLB.com. Halladay has thrown three straight complete games, which leads the Majors. In his career against the Red Sox, Halladay is 10-10 with a 4.81 ERA in 33 games.

April 17, 2008
Roy Halladay pitched his second straight complete game against Texas on Thursday. The outcome, however, wasn't what the former Cy Young winner or the Blue Jays wanted. The Rangers recorded 11 hits, four runs and notched a 4-1 victory.

April 12, 2008
Roy Halladay threw 111 pitches on his way to a one run, complete game victory over the Rangers. On the night, Halladay walked one, allowed six hits and struck out six.

April 6, 2008
Roy Halladay earned his first win of the season on Sunday against Boston as he allowed four runs on eight hits over eight innings of work, with one walk and six strikeouts. He gave up three home runs but still won the game, as Toronto prevailed 7-4. If not for strong run support, Halladay would be 0-2 right now.

March 10, 2008
Roy Halladay got his work in on Monday, and though he punched out five Astros batters, he allowed six hits and three runs in the game. Halladay is just working himself into game shape as he continues to be one of the most consistently excellent starting pitchers in baseball.
March 5, 2008
Roy Halladay worked three scoreless innings on Wednesday allowing only one hit while striking out two. Halladay also worked on his curveball and appeared to be in mid-season form in this outing. Halladay, who has won 32 games while throwing 445.1 innings the past two seasons, is one of the top-15 hurlers in baseball this year, especially in leagues that award points for complete games (he has 11 the past two seasons).
