Player Notes
August 13, 2008
The Seattle Mariners have officially released Jose Vidro , one week after designated the embattled designated hitter for assignment, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:Through 85 games this season, Vidro was hitting .234 with 11 doubles, seven home runs, and 45 RBIs, one of several disappointing performances of this season for the M's.

The Mariners designated Jose Vidro for assignment on Tuesday, MLB.com confirms. The DH is hitting only .234 on the season.

Our View:Vidro is just one of the many Mariners who have had a disastrous season. As happened to Richie Sexson, we'd expect a contending team to hand him a bench spot.
July 20, 2008
The Mariners failed to make good on 11 hits versus Cleveland today, falling 6-2 to continue a season of frustration. The bulk of that offense came from just two players sharing nearly identical days at the plate. Designated hitter Jose Vidro and first baseman Miguel Cairo both went 3-for-4 at the dish, both posting one RBI.

Our View:Vidro is showing a bit of promise, hitting .290 through July with six RBIs (three over his last five games). It's not much, but it represents a noteworthy improvement.
July 10, 2008
Despite a .212 average against righties, Jose Vidro will remain as the team's cleanup hitter against right-handed pitchers, hitting behind Raul Ibanez, according to the Seattle Times. "He's still got that reputation that'll make guys think about not giving Ibanez anything to hit," Seattle manager Jim Riggleman said.

Our View:This move just goes to show how pathetic the Mariners lineup is. Vidro is hitting .214 on the season with a .262 on-base percentage, and would have to rank as the single worst cleanup hitter in all of baseball.
June 19, 2008
John McLaren has been fired as the Mariners' skipper, according to the Seattle Times. Seattle holds a MLB-worst 25-47 record, and his termination is not a surprise.

Our View:Bench coach Jim Riggleman will take over as acting manager. The Mariners are off today, and will play the Braves on Friday in Atlanta.
