Moises Alou has been transferred to the 60-day DL, according to the AP. The Mets acquired reliever Luis Ayala from the Nationals, and moved Alou to make room on the roster.

Our View:This officially puts an end to Alou's season, who was taken down by a torn hamstring.
July 10, 2008
Moises Alou will likely miss the rest of the season with a torn hamstring, according to the New York Post.

Our View:Alou just can't catch a break, that is unless it is to his body. This could signal the end of Alou's career, too bad since the man can still hit. With Ryan Church's status also in doubt, the Mets seemingly will have to make a major move to replace the lost offense in the outfield.
July 8, 2008
Alou told the Norwich (Conn.) Bulletin, "There's a pretty good chance I might be (playing for the Mets) Friday. There's a chance I may wait until after the All-Star break, but my goal is to be back in New York this weekend."

Our View:With Ryan Church headed to the DL, the Mets could certainly use him. However, given Alou's recent history, the brontosaurus has a better chance of returning from extinction than Moises does of lasting a month with the Mets.
July 8, 2008
Moises Alou is expected to make one or two minor-league rehab assignments this week but most likely won't rejoin the Mets before the All-Star break, according to the NY Post.

July 5, 2008
Moises Alou could resume his rehab assignment on Monday, the New York Daily News reports. He is on the DL due to a strained left calf and had a setback this past week.

Our View:Alou remains on pace to set the record for most injury status updates in a single season. He has appeared in one major league game since May 21.
July 1, 2008
Moises Alou wasn't able to begin his rehab assignment on Monday night but it wasn't due to a setback with his strained left calf as the weather forced the games to be called, according to Mets Blog.

Our View:Amazing that he wasn't injured opening up his umbrella or turning on his windshield wipers. Alou still hopes to return to the Mets this weekend in Philadelphia, but the brittle one is always a risk.
June 29, 2008
Moises Alou, who is recovering from a strained left calf, should begin rehab games on Monday, according to the NY Daily News. If that goes favorably, he could return for next weekend's series against the Phillies, which starts July 4.

Our View:Alou is productive when he plays as he holds a .347 average over 49 games with nine RBI, but he has already landed on the DL three times this season, and shouldn't be counted on as a starter in your fantasy outfield when he returns.
June 23, 2008
Acting manager Jerry Manuel stated that Moises Alou might not return to the Mets this season, and may even decide to retire at 41-years old, according to the NY Post. Manuel said, "I think he's determined to get back this season. I do believe that if this happens in the fashion that it happened before, I think he'll have some serious problems, and he'll head to the house."

Our View:Alou has already been sent to the DL three times this season, with his latest trip due to a strained left calf.
June 13, 2008
Newsday reports that Robinson Cancel has been recalled by the Mets and Moises Alou was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left calf.

Our View:The move is not retroactive because Cancel was recalled within a 10 day period. This speaks volumes to the health of Alou, meaning he could be out for an extended period of time.
June 12, 2008
Moises Alou is still being bothered by tightness in his left calf and commented that a return trip to the DL is a possibility, according to MLB.com. He underwent an MRI on Wednesday, and the results are yet to be determined.

June 11, 2008
Moises Alou is not in the Mets lineup on Wednesday because of his sore calf, and he will be given another MRI to determine the extent of his latest setback, according to the Journal News.

Our View:Manager Willie Randolph thinks that Alou will likely need to be shut down for at least a few days, which means another trip to the DL is a possibility given the fragile nature of Alou's body.
June 11, 2008
Moises Alou hit a two-run single Tuesday in his first game back with the Mets, but he was taken out of the lineup following a 61-minute rain delay after his calf stiffened up on him, according to the NY Daily News. Manager Willie Randolph didn't sound concerned about the veteran outfielder.

Our View:Alou was hitting .340 over 47 at-bats this season, with seven RBI. The 41-year old outfielder will provide a boost to the middle of the Mets' order, but it remains in question if he can stay healthy, as this will be the second time that he returned from the DL this season.
June 8, 2008
The Mets are hoping to see a quick return for outfielder Moises Alou , according to MLB.com.

Our View:The team will activate Alou from the disabled list on Tuesday, the second time this season they have taken the veteran outfielder off the list. The team is hoping to see his bat return to form, for the platoon situation in the middle of their batting order is becoming thin. Keeping Alou healthy would be of great benefit, but at 41-years of age, it is sure to be a challenge.
June 6, 2008
Mets manager Willie Randolph said left fielder Moises Alou will not come off the 15-day disabled list on Friday, this according to the AP. Randolph said his outfielder will likely be activated Tuesday when the Mets return to Shea to face the Arizona Diamondbacks. Alou is eligible to return on Friday.

Our View:The oft-injured Alou has mixed league value, but only if he can find a way to stay healthy.

May 22, 2008
Moises Alou has been placed on the 15-day DL because of a strained left calf on Thursday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Alou, who missed the first 26 games of the year recovering from a hernia operation, is injured more than a 160 pound kicker forced to play middle linebacker in the NFL would be. He can still hit as he's batting .340 in 14 games, but he just cannot stay healthy. Endy Chavez and Marlon Anderson will likely split outfield duties until Alou can return.
May 22, 2008
