Julio Lugo went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, a run scored, and an RBI in the Cardinals' 4-3 loss to the Brewers on Thursday.

Our View:Lugo has been reborn in St. Louis this summer, and after being cast aside by the Red Sox, Lugo looks like he will contribute for the rest of the season in the Cards' lineup. If you are in desperate need of a middle infielder, it might be worth it to give Lugo a look, but be aware that he does split time with Brendan Ryan and Skip Schumaker.

Julio Lugo had a big day at the plate on Saturday. The new Cardinal shortstop went 4-for-5 with an RBI and was a homer short of the cycle in the Cardinals' embarrassing 14-6 loss to the Phillies.

Our View:Lugo is now 6-for-10 in his brief two-game Cardinal career and the Redbirds appeared to have caught lightning in a bottle with the former Red Sock. If he continues to hit like this count on Tony LaRussa finding a way to keep his bat in the lineup.

Julio Lugo has been activated by the Cardinals after being acquired via trade from Boston, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Lugo is worth a look as a flier for NL-only leagues, namely if he sees regular action at shortstop. The 33-year-old vet is a career .271 hitter.

Less than a week after designating him for assignment, Boston has traded shortstop Julio Lugo to the St. Louis Cardinals for outfielder Chris Duncan, according to Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:Duncan is mired in an epic slump, going just just 1-for-31 this month, but was a classic candidate to benefit from a change of scenery. A highly defensively challenged player, he profiles much better as an American Leaguer. Though with Big Papi entrenched as the Sox DH, he should struggle for at-bats. Lugo meanwhile, also benefits greatly from the deal, as the Cardinals badly needed a major league ready infielder. He figures to see lots of playing time, and at many different positions, under Tony La Russa.

Alex Speier is reporting on WEEI.com that Julio Lugo is not necessarily going to be signed by the Mets when he is released. The Mets had several opportunities to land Lugo in a trade for next to nothing, but they passed. Now, they have Jose Reyes coming back soon to play shortstop.

Our View:The Mets may still sign Lugo, but Speier believes it is not a foregone conclusion like many think. Lugo could provide depth in case Reyes gets delayed in his return again, but he doesn't figure to make a big impact anywhere this season.
