Paul Bako hit a two-run and a three-run homer in Monday's 9-4 win over Florida. The veteran backstop now has six dingers and 20 RBI on the year.

Our View:Bako has done nothing since his surprising April, so this came out of nowhere. Do yourself a favor and don't pick him up based on this game.

Baker said, "With the injuries we've had to that catcher department, you're always going to have them, he's done an excellent job." He is hitting .316 over 19 at-bats, but he will get Wednesday off in favor of Javier Valentin, who has a better track record against Milwaukee pitcher Dave Bush.

Reds manager Dusty Baker said that he might keep catchers David Ross, Javier Valentin and Paul Bako on the roster, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "There's an outside possibility we'll carry three catchers," Baker said. "It's how things go. Late in a game, you'd love to have a guy like Bako behind the plate if I double switch. I could pinch-hit Javy. There are a lot of options." Baker has had both Bako and Valentin work at first base to further increase his options. Bako still has to earn a spot as a non-roster invitee, though.

Paul Bako has signed a minor league contract with the Reds, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He'll fight for a roster spot in camp, but he'll be a long-shot.
