Eric Chavez underwent shoulder surgery in August and he told MLB.com that he will be ready to go by the time spring training rolls around. "I'm about three months or so out from surgery right now, and rehab has been going really, really well," Chavez said. "I'm not going to start with baseball activities until January or late December, but talking to the doctors and trainers, we all pretty much feel like I'm ahead of schedule. So if I had to guess right now, there'd be almost no doubt; I fully expect to be ready for everything by the time Spring Training starts."

Our View:If the A's can get Chavez to produce like he is capable of, combined with the addition of Matt Holliday, Oakland's lineup will be very scary for opposing pitchers.

Eric Chavez stated that rehab from his most recent shoulder surgery is going well, according to the SF Chronicle. He said, "It was a little slow at first, but the past two weeks, I've made huge progress. By the end of December, I'll be feeling about 100 percent."

Our View:The A's remain optimistic he will be able to return to his post at third base next season, but will remain an injury risk as a fantasy prospect.

Eric Chavez and the Athletics still are holding on to hope that he will be able to return from multiple surgeries this year to play third base next season, according to The Mercury News. "I'm optimistic, given the surgical report, that he'll be back and be good," GM Billy Beane said. "And I know he's really motivated."

Our View:According to the reports that we have received so far, this seems like wishful thinking. At this point, what we are really hoping to hear is that Chavez is healthy and can drive the ball at the plate, even if he ends up having to DH next season. He remains a huge risk heading into 2009.

Oakland trainer Steve Sayles reports third baseman Eric Chavez has emerged from a 2 1/2 hour surgery today and all indications suggest the procedure was a success, according to the San Francisco Gate.

Our View:Chavez had three items repaired while under the knife, including the repair of an anterior labral, a SLAP lesion repair, and having his biceps tendon transposed. This is great news for a player we feared might see a premature end to his career. Sayles said that recovery will take six months and Chavez should be ready to go at that point.

Eric Chavez will undergo season-ending surgery on his right shoulder today, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View:Team doctors plan to stabilize the severely frayed labrum in Chavez's right shoulder.
