Player Notes
September 15, 2008
Journeyman Brian Moehler (11-6, 4.16) is 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA in six starts versus Chicago and 1-1 with a 2.12 ERA in three this season. Moehler has been either good or bad this year. There has been little in between. In his 18 starts since the beginning of June he has allowed one or fewer earned runs eight times -- and four or more runs eight times.

Our View:Moehler depends on his early inning success. He's only a two-pitch pitcher that is much more suited for a long relief role.
September 10, 2008
Brian Moehler improved to 11-6 on Wednesday night as he held the Pirates to just two runs in six innings of work. Moehler didn't strike out a batter but he also didn't walk one while allowing just five hits.

Our View:Moehler is 6-2 since the All-Star break as he continues to do his best Livan Hernandez impersonation, that is back when he was good an not the batting practice pitcher that batters fatten their batting average on now. Moehler allows a lot of hits, almost 10 per nine innings, and he barely strikes out five per nine, so there are bound to be some ups an downs along the way.
August 30, 2008
Brian Moehler gave up three earned runs on seven hits over six innings in Saturday's 8-5 win over the Cardinals, with one walk and six strikeouts.

Our View:The 36-year-old hurler, who just signed an extension with the club, improves to 10-5 for the season, and is 5-1 since the All-Star break.
August 29, 2008
Brian Moehler has received a contract extension and will make $2.3 million plus bonuses, and his deal also includes a mutual option for 2010, according to the AP.

Our View:The 36-year-old hurler is 9-5 with a 3.99 ERA over 25 games (20 starts) for the Astros this season, and is 4-1 since the All-Star break.
August 19, 2008
Houston RHP Brian Moehler wasn't especially dominant tonight, but he put the Brewers in a loss with an efficient outing off the mounth. Moehler pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs (only one earned) on nine hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View:Moehler has been strong, now standing at 3-0 in four starts through August. The one walk surrendered tonight is his first since July 29th, also giving up just one homer along that same span.
