Player Notes
July 4, 2008
Brian Moehler surrendered five earned runs on six hits over six innings in Friday's 6-2 loss to the Braves in Atlanta, with three walks and one strikeout.

Our View:Tonight's loss snaps a streak of three-straight starts in which he only allowed one earned run. He is still worth consideration for the bottom half of your rotation in NL-only leagues.
June 29, 2008
Brian Moehler went pitch-for-pitch with Josh Beckett on Sunday afternoon. The veteran held the Red Sox to one run over 5.2 innings. Moehler allowed seven hits, walked three, and struck out five. He earned a no-decision, but the Astros eventually won 3-2.

Our View:Okay, so Moehler didn't last as long as Beckett, but it was a nice outing nonetheless. Moehler has allowed only one run in each of his last three starts and is worth trusting in NL-only formats. We're not ready to use him in mixed leagues.
June 18, 2008
Brian Moehler was good on Wednesday night in Baltimore. After allowing seven runs on seven hits in his last outing against the Brewers, the right-handed journeyman working 6.1 innings allowing one run on five hits, walking two and striking out four in a no-decision.

Our View:Moehler was not expected to be in the starting rotation when the Astros broke spring training, and the veteran is much better serving in long relief. The longer Moehler is in the game the more dramatically his batting average against climbs.
May 27, 2008
Brian Moehler has retained his spot in the starting rotation with four strong starts (2-1, 3.43 ERA, 1.33 WHIP in 21 innings). Chris Sampson will be demoted to the bullpen when Wandy Rodriguez is activated from the DL. "I'm not going to sit here and lie to you and say I'm not happy, because I am," Moehler said. "At the same time, I told Coop I'd be happy to relieve as well. My goal is to help get this team in the playoffs. This is my 11th year and I haven't experienced that yet."

Our View:Moehler should be avoided in all leagues despite his strong showing of late. His track record shows he simply won't keep it up.
May 19, 2008
Brian Moehler needed 95 pitches to hold the Cubs to three runs over five innings as he fell to 1-1 on the year.

Our View:Moehler continues to allow a boatload of hits, 31 in just 22.2 IP, and with just 11 K in that time it's clear that he needs exquisite control to do any better than he did on this night.
