The Mets purchased the contract of Mike Difelice from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday to take the roster spot of the injured Ramon Castro. Difelice was hitting .276 with eight home runs and 25 RBI in 28 games at Norfolk.

Since he wasn't on the Marlins' roster yesterday, Mike Difelice asked for and was granted his release, according to the Sun-Sentinel. He had been pushing Matt Treanor for the backup catcher's job but now will look for work with a new team.

The Miami Herald reports that Mike DiFelice is pushing Matt Treanor hard for the backup catcher job with the Marlins this spring. His .280 average is 69 points higher than Treanor, and manager Jack McKeon said the battle likely will come down to the wire.
