Keith Foulke is by no means set as the closer for the A's next season. The team is still exploring a variety of trades, including one that would bring Byung-Hyun Kim to Oakland, according to the Contra Costa Times.

ESPN's Peter Gammons reports that the A's have acquired Keith Foulke from the White Sox in exchange for Billy Koch and two minor leaguers. Mark Johnson and Joe Valentine also come to Oakland in the deal. Foulke lost his job as the closer for the White Sox for much of 2002, but should take over that role for the A's.

If he isn't traded in the off-season, he doesn't expect to make it past next year's trading deadline with the Sox. He's posted a 1.74 ERA since the All-Star break, but the club doesn't appear ready to give him back his closer's job.

"When he throws well, he has a little more extension," Manuel said. "That's what we are working on. White Sox manager Jerry Manuel indicated that he will primarily rely on Antonio Osuna and Damaso Marte to close out games for now, though Bobby Howry may also get some opportunities. Manuel also said that Foulke's demotion was only temporary.
