Jose Guillen had two hits which led to three RBI leaving him with 84 runs batted in for the year.

Our View:This guy had been a series of peaks and valleys this season. In May and June he batted .327 with 10 home runs and 46 RBI in 54 games, but in the 49 games since he is hitting an anemic .189 with just four home runs and 13 RBI. The overall numbers are decent (.250-18-84), but you have paid the price if you are in a head to head league.
August 27, 2008
Jose Guillen had to be restrained after getting upset at a fan heckling him in Kansas City, according to the AP. The fan got on him for not getting to second base on a hit, and then went a little further, Guillen said. "The [next] at-bat, when I hit the ball to left field, he said the magic words. Something personal about my family. I don't deal well with that. That's enough right there."

Our View:Guillen is hitting .249 with a lackluster .285 on-base percentage. He also has 17 home runs and a healthy 80 RBI for fantasy owners this year.
August 14, 2008
Jose Guillen went 1-for-3 and drove in both of his team's runs in the Royals 9-2 loss to Chicago.

Our View:Guillen comes with good home run and RBI totals, but that on-base percentage is an eyesore. If you can live with a guy who has an OBP under .300, then he can otherwise help fantasy teams.
August 4, 2008
Jose Guillen went 2-for-3 with two doubles in the Royals 4-3 victory over Boston. In bigger news, Guillen took a walk for the third game in a row. This is half the total he accumulated in May, June and July.

Our View:Guillen has shown better plate discipline of late, and he has a very modest four game hitting streak to show for it.
August 1, 2008
Jose Guillen was held out of the Royals lineup on Friday night with tightness in his left hip flexor, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Guillen has been dealing with this injury for several days, and was replaced in the lineup by Esteban German with Mark Teahen moving to right field and David DeJesus in center. Guillen will look to return over the weekend.
August 1, 2008
Kansas City Royals owner David Glass has come out in support of embattled outfielder Jose Guillen, according to the Kansas City Star. Glass doesn't mind Guillen's mouth, "as long as I know that he really cares, wants to win and wants us to get better. Those things are really important to me. I’m satisfied that he feels all of those things," he said.

Our View:Glass isn't the most popular figure in Kansas City either, and this likely won't help his cause any. Guillen, despite his oratory musings, is a decent fantsy option with 14 home runs and 71 RBI. His value would be greater if his OBP wasn't an awful .286. He has taken just 11 walks in 413 plate appearances.
July 29, 2008
ESPN.com reports that Jose Guillen wants out of Kansas City because he feels the Royals have not kept the promises made when he signed for three years and $36 million during the offseason. However, the article points out that the main reason he is in "living hell in Kansas City" is a foul relationship with manager Trey Hillman. Guillen is ready to defer his salary for 2009 and 2010 if it helps increase his value on the trading block.

Our View:The 32-year-old is leading the Royals with 14 home runs and 69 RBIs and could be a good offensive addition for a team looking for one. Guillen's biggest drawback aside from his wavering attitude has to be his 75 strikeouts to just 10 walks.
July 28, 2008
Jose Guillen returned from a pulled groin on Monday and hit a two-run home run in his first at-bat. It was his only hit of the game.

Our View:Guillen now has 69 RBI in 100 games. Expect him to remain in the lineup the rest of the week despite feeling a "snap" in his groin on Saturday.
July 27, 2008
Jose Guillen stated that he felt his groin "snap" in Saturday's game, according to the KC Star. He stayed in the lineup but said, "I should have been smart and just taken myself out of the game because I could not even walk right. I thought that by staying in the game, it might get better. But it only got worse."

Our View:He is not expected to be in the Royals' lineup for Sunday. We will keep you posted on his status when more details are known.
July 22, 2008
Jose Guillen returned to the Royals' starting lineup Monday, for the first time since the All-Star break due to back spasms, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View:He went 0-for-4 Monday, but fantasy owners should still be pleased he is back.
July 18, 2008
Kansas City outfielder Jose Guillen has been scratched from tonight's lineup against the Chicago White Sox, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View:Guillen was ruled unavailable for the series opener against the Chicago after awakening early Friday with back spasms. Reports indicate Guillen was working in Las Vegas, hitting in the cage for all three days of the All-Star break. Manager Trey Hillman told reporters Guillen reported the spasms on that third day and he continues to feel pain today. For now, it is not believed to be a serious injury. We will update his status as needed.
July 11, 2008
Jose Guillen was scratched from Friday's lineup due to stiffness in his neck, according to MLB.com.

Our View:This should not be long term and Guillen should still see another start before the All-Star break.
July 5, 2008
Jose Guillen got into what is being described as a "heated" argument with pitching coach Bob McLure, according to the Star Tribune. No punches were thrown in the incident, but things got heated with Guillen toss a couple of chairs before going face-to-face with the coach.

Our View:Guillen has always had a me-first attitude that has often gotten him into trouble with teammates and coaches. Hopefully this will blow over, and given that the confrontation didn't become physical, he may not even face any team discipline for the outburst.
July 3, 2008
Jose Guillen went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored in the Royals 10-7 victory over the Orioles on Thursday night.

Our View:Guillen has 14 multi-hit games in his last 26 starts and has his average up to .280 on the season.
June 30, 2008
Jose Guillen, who has been serving as the designated hitter recently because of a hip pointer, is back in left field tonight in the first game of a four-game series against Baltimore.

Our View:Guillen, the Royals most productive hitter and the heart of team with more fire than they probably should have, is hitting .280 with 13 home runs, 60 RBI and 37 runs scored in 80 games.
June 18, 2008
The Kansas City Star reports that GM Bill Bavasi, fired Monday, cited the decision last winter not to retain outfielder Jose Guillen as the biggest factor this season in the Mariners’ poor play. “It’s really ironic,” Bavasi said in a news conference after his dismissal, “that the person we’re missing the most is José Guillen.

Our View:The Mariners opted not to exercise a $9 million option to retain Guillen for this season. Kansas City got arguably their most valuable player.
June 9, 2008
Jose Guillen has returned to the Royals' outfield on Monday, according to MLB.com.

Our View:He has been slowed by a bruised left shin, and served as the team's DH on Sunday. The swelling has subsided, and he has been cleared to roam the outfield again. He has 20 doubles this season, and his running ability should not be compromised.
June 8, 2008
Jose Guillen had been questionable to play Sunday because of a bruised shin. Not only did he play, but he had a couple hits, including a home run. It was Guillen third long ball in the last two days.

Our View:Guillen got off to a painfully slow start but has made up for it over the last month. It appears the shin injury is a non-issue.
June 8, 2008
Jose Guillen is questionable for today's game with a deep bruise on his left shin, according to the KC Star. The outfielder was injured when he fouled a ball off his shin in the sixth inning. He stayed in the game and hit a grand slam in the seventh before exiting when the Royals took the field in the bottom of the inning. "We felt like we were in a position to get him off of (his leg), ice it and hopefully reduce the swelling," manager Trey Hillman said. "We wanted to put him in a better position for (today’s) game."

Our View:Guillen had a pair of homers and seven RBI in the game yesterday, so hopefully he'll feel good enough to play today.
June 7, 2008
Jose Guillen was forced to leave the Royals and Yankees game on Sunday after seven innings due to swelling in his left shin, according to the Associated Press. “We felt like we were in a position to go ahead and get him off (the shin), ice it and hopefully reduce the swelling,” Royals manager Trey Hillman said. “We wanted him in better condition for tomorrow’s day game.”

Our View:Guillen had seven RBI in the game, so the injury didn't appear to be hampering him too much.
June 7, 2008
Jose Guillen had a day for the ages on Saturday as he scored two runs and had three hits for the Royals. What made the day special? Two of the hits were home runs, and he drove in seven runs on the afternoon.

Our View:It took Guillen 18 games at the start of the year to record seven RBI. Since that slow start, his RBI bat has been on fire with 35 RBI over his last 42 games, and he is also batting .323 since the start of May. Can you say en feugo?
May 29, 2008
The Royals extended their losing streak to 10 games last night (against Minnesota), and Jose Guillen vented some frustration after the game, according to FanNation.com. Guillen said, "Too many babies in here. They don't know how to play the game and how to win games. That's the problem here. Now I know why this organization has been losing for a while. Now I know. It doesn't have anything to do with our manager. He cares more than anyone."

Our View:Over the losing streak, Guillen has 10 hits, one homer, and six RBI, but the Royals are not getting the job done around him, as he only scored three runs over the span, which all came in one game.
May 25, 2008
Jose Guillen served as the Royals' DH on Saturday, according to the Kansas City Star. He was moved because of increased soreness in his ailing right hip after playing left field Friday on the poor artificial turf at Rogers Centre in Toronto. Manager Trey Hillman said, "With a guy who has been playing on different surfaces as long as he has, I am going to trust what he says about his body. When he says it’s a soreness, I don’t want it to go back to a strain. You don’t want to take those 35 RBI out of our batting order. If we do, we’re in a lot of hurt."

Our View:Guillen still got to play, and fantasy owners should be pleased that the team is being smart and cautious with him. Guillen has rebounded nicely from a slow start, as he is hitting .351 with three homers, nine doubles, and 20 RBI over 21 games in May.
May 22, 2008
Jose Guillen continued his climb back to respectability with four more hits on Thursday including his sixth home run of the season.

Our View:Gullen hit only .192 in April, but his performance has totally turned around in May with a .352 average and 19 RBI. All you had to do was listen to him as he said he would be fine. Actually it was something like 'Jose Guillen will hit', but you get the drift.
May 19, 2008
Royals outfielder Jose Guillen was named American League Player of the Week for the period ending May 18, this according to the Sports Network.

Our View: Guillen, who celebrated his 32nd birthday during the week, went 11-for-24 (.458) at the plate with two home runs and 13 runs batted in. The veteran outfielder earned his second career weekly honor and is batting .245 with five homers and 30 RBI this season.
May 18, 2008
The Kansas City Royals put a whooping on the Florida Marlins today, 9-3, and outfielder Jose Guillen was the man with his finger on the trigger of the effort. Guillen went 2-for-4 at the dish, hitting his 16th double of the season as well as his fifth homer of the campaign, posting four total RBIs and two runs scored.

Our View:Guillen now carries a ten-game hit streak forward, going 19-for-38 along the way.
May 18, 2008
Kansas City outfielder Jose Guillen extended his hit streak to nine games on Saturday, going 1-for-4 with a two-run double as the Royals fell to the Marlins 7-3.

Our View:During this span, Guillen has gone 17-for-34 with five runs scored and 11 RBIs, a stretch of success that has raised his batting average from .185 to .239.
May 17, 2008
Jose Guillen is hot right now, and attributes his recent success to a drop in body weight, according to the Kansas City Star. He admitted that he showed up to spring training overweight and out of shape, and said, "This is all my fault. I really showed up this season completely out of shape. It took me a while to get to where I needed to be. I showed up at spring training at 235 pounds. I know better than that." He has since trimmed down to 210 pounds and remarked, "I can tell you I feel more comfortable, and it shows at the plate. That’s a big difference. I was just not ready coming into spring training."

Our View:Guillen has 16 hits over his last 30 at-bats. He has seven doubles, one home run and nine RBI over the eight game span.
May 16, 2008
Jose Guillen remains hot as he went 3-for-4 with two RBI in Friday's close 7-6 win over the Marlins.

Our View:He now has racked up nine RBI over his last six games, while collecting 12 hits over the span as well.
May 15, 2008
Jose Guillen continued his hot hitting of late with two hits, including his fourth home run of the year, and three RBI for the Royals on Thursday afternoon.

Our View:Guillem has now amassed two hits in four of his last five games and hits in each of his last seven games to raise his average from .165 to .224. You didn't really think he would stay down forever did you?
May 13, 2008
Tonight it was the Kansas City Royals emerging with the 3-2 win over Detroit, and it was DH Jose Guillen proving deadly with the bat to support the cause. Guillen is struggling with back spasms, yet he hit the batter's box and went 2-for-4 hitting two doubles to gather two RBIs.

Our View:Guillen now touts 19 RBIs on the season and is really heating up at the plate, going 10-for-18 with five doubles over his last five games.
May 13, 2008
The Kansas City Royals has moved OF Jose Guillen to the role of DH as they face the Detroit Tigers this evening, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Guillen has been battling a hip flexor that is slow to improve, and while he can (and has) played through the pain, the team feels they can help his cause by taking him out of the field. Guillen hasn't played in the field since Wednesday, originally diagnosed with a sore shoulder. Now the hip is the only thing keeping him from full health, and the Royals are doing what they can to help him along.
May 11, 2008
Jose Guillen played on Saturday despite a sore right hip flexor. He was forced to DH, though. "It is legitimate soreness, but he wants to play," manager Trey Hillman informs the Kansas City Star. Guillen went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Our View:Maybe Guillen should get injured more often. He suffered two ailments this week and is 6-for-10 over the last three games. Fantasy owners should consider him day-to-day.
May 8, 2008
Jose Guillen injured his arm on Wednesday night and as a result he was not in the starting lineup on Thursday night, according to MLB.com. "It was real bad," Guillen said. "It went from my shoulder straight down my arm, and started tingling in my hand."

Our View:The injury is commonly referred to as a "stinger." The team hopes to have Guillen back over the weekend, and until he returns to the lineup look for the team to possibly use utility man Alberto Callaspo who stepped in for Guillen on Wednesday night.
May 7, 2008
Jose Guillen had three hits and scored two runs for the Royals, but despite the solid night, he is still batting just .185 with only with 14 runs in 32 games.

Our View:This outing snaps a 1-for-21 slump, but Guillen has just been awful this season. You are a glutton for failure if Guillen is anywhere near your lineup at the moment, but perhaps this outing will propel him to being the hitter he always has been.
May 6, 2008
The Royals gave the slumping Jose Guillen a day off on Tuesday. "I think he needs a day to work on things," manager Trey Hillman tells MLB.com. "[Hitting coach Mike Barnett] has been feverishly working on things, trying to help him make some adjustments, and Barney thinks he might have clicked on something today."

Our View:We haven't seen Guillen swing like this since he had injury problems in 2006 while with the Nats. The veteran will likely work his way out of it, but fantasy owners should bench him until he looks better.
May 3, 2008
Jose Guillen had a tough day at the plate in Saturday's 4-2 win over Cleveland, as he went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts, while leaving four men on base.

Our View:His batting average now stands at .168, and he only contributed 15 RBI over 29 games played. Guillen, who is making $12 million in 2008, only generated four hits over his last six games.
April 29, 2008
Jose Guillen had his best game as a Royal Tuesday, homering and driving in five runs in the victory over Texas. Guillen upped his batting average to a still-ugly .190.

Our View:Hopefully this will be a sign of things to come from Guillen.
April 23, 2008
Kansas City OF Jose Guillen has been held from this evening's lineup against the Cleveland Indians, according to CBSSports.com.

Our View:Guillen is in the midst of a troubling slump at the plate, hitting just .165 thus far with four strike outs on Tuesday evening. Manager Trey Hillman decided to hold Guillen out with hopes of giving him a rest and time to reflect on his immediate future. "He's been through a lot, " Hillman said. "Obviously, last night was a difficult night. From a performance level, it is not up to his expectations or our hopes. Sometimes guys need a mental blow." With Guillen out, Joey Gathright has gotten the start in center while David DeJesus has shifted over to left and Mark Teahen to right.
April 19, 2008
It only took Jose Guillen 18 games to hit his first home run as he went deep in a 2-for-4 effort on Saturday. Guillen also scored two runs and knocked in three.

Our View:Guillen has really struggled to get going so hopefully today's effort can be used as a spring board to the type of production we have grown accustomed to with Guillen.
April 12, 2008
Jose Guillen was dropped to the fifth spot in the order on Saturday night but it did little to change his performance as he went 0-for-4 to fall to .133 with no home runs through 11 games.

Our View:Maybe he should have just accepted the suspension he was set to serve as the Royals may have been better off with someone else in the lineup.
April 11, 2008
Jose Guillen's 15-day suspension has been rescinded, according to the Kansas City Star. Guillen was suspended on December 6 for unspecified violations in the previous policy. His ban was scheduled to start at the beginning of the season, but enforcement was delayed twice while the industry negotiated a tougher new program. Bud Selig granted amnesty to all 86 players, including Guillen, cited in the Mitchell Report, and he stated, "It is time to move the game forward. There is little to be gained at this point in debating dated misconduct and enduring numerous disciplinary proceedings." This is good news, now he just needs to move on and pick up his anemic .162 batting average.
April 9, 2008
Jose Guillen is still uncertain when his 15-day suspension will begin, according to the AP. The Royals were informed by the commissioner’s office on Wednesday that the stay of Guillen’s suspension has been extended through Tuesday. He was suspended on March 30 for violating the MLB's drug policy, but the suspension was put on hold for 10 days while the owners and players negotiated a tougher drug agreement. Guillen has played in the first seven games for KC, but only holds a .138 average over 29 at-bats.
April 7, 2008
Jose Guillen could be forced to serve his 15-day suspension starting Thursday unless a new agreement can be worked out between the players union and the owners, this according to the AP. At this point this situation has little to do directly with Guillen, but unless to the two sides can agree on a new testing program of some kind, the league may be forced to reinstate the suspension of Guillen. Stay tuned.
March 29, 2008
Commissioner Bud Selig wants some form of punishment for players named in the Mitchell Report, even if it's not a suspension, which could be good news for Jose Guillen and Jay Gibbons. "He wants a small dose of action and that will satisfy him," one of the lawyers who was breifed on the talks told the New York Times. Be it a fine or mandatory counseling, Selig wants the players to be held accountable in some manner. But if the suspensions Guillen and Gibbons face are rescinded, obviously, their fantasy value would improve. Stay tuned.
March 28, 2008
Major League Baseball has decided to delay Jose Guillen's 15-day suspension for 10 days, citing the need for further negotiations regarding the sport’s substance-abuse policy, according to SportsTicker. He reportedly bought steriods and human growth hormone from the Palm Beach Rejuvenation Center in Florida over a period of three years, but MLB may wipe away his suspension as part of a deal with the players union in an attempt to strengthen the drug policy going forward.
March 27, 2008
After all of the hullabaloo about the Mitchell report, it appears the league will soften its stance "guilt by association," to a degree at least, this according to the Rocky Mountain News. An convoluted agreement between both sides, however, likely would eliminate the 15-day suspensions imposed in December on Kansas City's Jose Guillen and Baltimore's Jay Gibbons after they were both connected to performance-enhancing drugs. AL-only managers are likely standing in applause. Guillen and his owners are the obvious winners, if in fact the Royals outfielder has his current suspension lifted.
March 18, 2008
Jose Guillen has been battling the flu recently and stayed out of the lineup on Tuesday as a result, according to the KC Star. He should have plenty of time to recover in time for the regular season, especially if he doesn't win his appeal of a 15-day suspension.
March 9, 2008
Jose Guillen went 0-for-3 in his Royals spring debut today. The Royals scooped him up to add much needed "pop" to their lineup.
March 9, 2008
Bud Selig may be willing to review, and possibly rescind, Jose Guillen's suspension before an arbitrator rules on an appeal, according to the KC Star. "I haven’t made any decisions on that yet," Selig said. "We are working to finish off all of Sen. (George) Mitchell’s recommendations, which will really tighten the program up." Guillen has been suspended 15 days for violating baseball’s drug policy after the San Francisco Chronicle reported he purchased $19,000 in steroids and human growth hormone from 2003-05. Guillen has appealed the suspension, but obviously, Selig could nix or reduce it on his own. Stay tuned.
March 5, 2008
Jose Guillen will make his spring debut sometime early next week. The team is letting him set his own schedule. "With Guillen, I’ll check him (Thursday) and see how he’s feeling with his body," manager Trey Hillman tells the Kansas City Star. "He says he’s getting close. I think it’ll definitely be by the ninth or the 10th, but I don’t want to nail it down yet.”
February 20, 2008
The KC Star reported Wednesday that newly acquired OF Jose Guillen has appealed his 15-day suspension for violating the league drug policy. The Royals received some clarification from the Commissioner’s Office regarding Guillen’s suspension. The penalty will run from the March 30 start of the MLB season, not the March 31 start of the Royals’ season, resulting in Guillen missing 12 actual games, barring a rain out. This is all pending an appeal, one that could shorten his 15-day (12-game) suspension even further.
