Player Notes
September 12, 2008
Kerry Wood has been scored upon in three of his last four outings, but manager Lou Piniella is not concerned and believes Wood just simply needs to see more action to keep him sharp and effective, according to the Chicago Tribune. Piniella said, "We need for Woody to get nice and sharp, and the only way we're going to do that is by getting him work."

Our View:The Cubs still have faith in him, and fantasy owners should as well, with about two weeks left in the regular season.
September 11, 2008
Kerry Wood, in his first season as a closer, recorded a milestone on Thursday night as he picked up his 30th save of the year for the Cubs.

Our View:Wood has been awful of late having allowed seven runs over his last three appearances entering tonight's outing, so it was nice to see him work and inning without giving up a run. Wood figures to continue to be run out there in the ninth inning barring some unforeseen occurrence despite whispers that he is dealing with an injury.
September 8, 2008
Kerry Wood blew his sixth save of the season on Sunday, and looked rusty in the process. In his defense, it was his first appearance in five days.

Our View:Wood would have escaped the jam if not for a tailor-made double-play ball hitting the lip of the infield grass and bouncing over Ronny Cedeno’s glove. Just another day at the office for a closer.
September 7, 2008
Wood entered Sunday's game with a two-run lead but picked up the loss after allowing three runs, two earned.

Our View:It's Wood's fourth loss and sixth blown save of the year. He had trouble throwing strikes and now has losses in two consecutive appearances. Perhaps his stint of four appearances in four days during late August is taking its toll.
August 29, 2008
Kerry Wood has thrown four straight days, but he is ready to pitch for a fifth consecutive day, according to MLB.com. "I felt great [Thursday], and I feel good again today," he said.

Our View:Wood has been a bit of a pleasant surprise for fantasy owners, many of whom expected Carlos Marmol to take the ninth inning role away from Wood at some point this season. But Wood has been great, with a WHIP under 1.00 while averaging nearly 11 K/9.
