ESPN reports that the Angels have traded Steve Finley to the Giants in exchange for Edgardo Alfonzo. Finley will simply be a reserve in San Francisco unless someone (ie. Barry Bonds) breaks down.

The Angels activated Steve Finley off the 15-day disabled list Thursday, according to the AP. He was sidelined with a strained right shoulder. Manager Mike Scioscia said he would gradually ease Finley back into action and evaluate him every couple weeks to make sure his swing doesn't affect the injury. Finley was back in the starting lineup Thursday, batting seventh and playing center field.

The LA Times reports that Steve Finley admitted yesterday that he has been bothered by an inflamed right shoulder since the second game of the season, an injury that has contributed significantly to his offensive struggles (.225 BA). He missed yesterday's contest after receiving a cortisone shot. He said an MRI two weeks ago "showed nothing major." Finley hopes to return to action Friday and avoid the DL.

"I don't worry about those things - I've hit in every spot there is to hit in the order," said Finley, a career .254 hitter against lefties, a .285 hitter against right-handers and a .241 hitter in April. "Look at my history in April, too. I've had two good starts in 16 years."
