ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Yankees and Red Sox are among the 12 teams that have shown interest in Brewers utilityman Craig Counsell.

Our View:That's a heavy amount of interest in one very light bat. The 39-year-old Counsell did manage to get on base at a clip of .357 in 130 games in 2009, but it's hard to see him repeating that feat in 2010.

Craig Counsell underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee Tuesday, according to beat writer Adam McCalvy's twitter page.

Our View:The club considered the procedure routine. The 39-year-old vet performed well with Milwaukee in 2009, as he held a .285 average over 404 at-bats. He will become a free agent in the offseason.

Craig Counsell will undergo a minor arthroscopic operation to clean out torn meniscus in his right knee, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View:Counsell experienced a problem with his knee in spring training, but decided to play through it. He is slated to become a free agent after the season.

Craig Counsell's fourth home run of the season helped the Brewers beat the Nationals 7-3 on Thursday, and win back-to-back games for the first time since June 29-30.

Our View:Counsell obviously lacks power, but his .299 average makes him an acceptable option in NL-only leagues.
