Craig Counsell was scratched for Saturday's split-squad game against Colorado due to a stiff neck, according to MLBblogs.com.

Our View:The 39-year-old vet's neck stiffened up during batting practice, and he looks to be day-to-day.

As expected, the Brewers announced on Monday that they have reached a one-year deal to keep infielder Craig Counsell in Milwaukee, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Our View:Financial terms have not yet been disclosed. In 130 games last season, Counsell hit .285 and got on base at a clip of .357.

Our View:He says the club will announce the deal on Monday. Many teams were said to be interested in Counsell this offseason after he hit .285 and posted a .357 on-base percentage in 2009.

Although they reportedly face stiff competition for his services, the Brewers are planning to make a bid to keep utility infielder Craig Counsell, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Our View:Counsell, age 39, had somewhat of a renaissance last season, batting .285 with 39 RBI in 130 games. He got on base at a clip of .357. He would look great on a lot of teams' benches, but if the Brewers are serious about keeping him, they likely will.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Yankees and Red Sox are among the 12 teams that have shown interest in Brewers utilityman Craig Counsell.

Our View:That's a heavy amount of interest in one very light bat. The 39-year-old Counsell did manage to get on base at a clip of .357 in 130 games in 2009, but it's hard to see him repeating that feat in 2010.
