Player Notes
June 23, 2009
Brian Giles has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right knee contusion, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Giles has continued his swift, comprehensive regression in 2009, batting just .191 with two homers. If for some reason you still own him, now is the time to drop him and never look back.
June 7, 2009
Brian Giles went 2-for-5 with two RBI in the Padres' 6-4 win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday. Giles is hitting .198 on the year.

Our View:Giles has been a little better as of late, but with a .198 average he does not warrant any fantasy consideration. He will have to do something drastic to be considered for fantasy duty this season.
May 26, 2009
Brian Giles knocked three hits on Tuesday, but the Padres fell to the Diamondbacks 6-5. Giles went 3-for-5 with a double in the game.

Our View:Giles is on the back end of his career, but he is still capable of nights like tonight on occasion. These occasions are very rare, but still. He should not be owned in any leagues, as he is hitting .189 on the year.
May 5, 2009
Brian Giles hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the tenth innings to give the offensively anemic Padres a 2-1 win over the Rockies on Tuesday.

Our View:Giles was 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI and two walks and is starting to show some offensive signs of life. His average is still an abysmal .163, but he homered on Sunday and had two hits Tuesday, so maybe he's coming around. Still he's no longer the fantasy player of old.
May 3, 2009
Brian Giles hit his first home run of the season in Sunday's 7-3 loss to the Dodgers. It was his only hit in five trips to the plate.

Our View:Giles is struggling mightily this season. He is hitting .158 and his home run Sunday was just his third extra base hit of the season. There's no one to blame but Giles here as he sees plenty of pitches to hit, batting in front of slugger Adrian Gonzalez. Even though his power has been gone for years, Giles was still an on-base machine. Until this year that is. He's only drawn ten walks and has an OBP of .240.
