The San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting that Brian Giles' contusion on his right knee is improving and that he could return to action very soon. Giles has been out since June with the injury.

Our View:There is no need for Giles to rush back, as he will likely not see much playing time upon his return, The Padres are dedicated to playing their young outfielders, and Giles will not take many at-bats away from the youngsters. He should not be viewed as a legitimate fantasy threat for the rest of the season.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Brian Giles (knee) may return to the batting cage this week.

Our View:Giles' strained knee that landed him on the DL in mid-June has improved enough that he may return to the club in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately he won't have much to do upon his return as the Pads have stated that they are sticking with their young outfielders. He'll likely be limited to spot starts and pinch hitting duties.

The San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting that Brian Giles will not take playing time away from the team's young outfielders when he returns from injury. No timetable has been set for his return, but Giles says he will be ready to play at some point this season.

Our View:With the Padres out of the race, they are going forward with their youth movement, and Giles is obviously not a part of that movement. It seems unlikely Giles makes any kind of fantasy impact this season, so anyone still holding onto him should feel free to get rid of him at this point.

Our View:The veteran outfielder has been on the shelf since June 19 with a right knee contusion. He was only hitting .191 with two homers prior to going down, and is only worth holding in the deepest of fantasy leagues.

Our View:Giles has continued his swift, comprehensive regression in 2009, batting just .191 with two homers. If for some reason you still own him, now is the time to drop him and never look back.
