Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Chicago White Sox are close to signing Omar Vizquel to a one-year deal to be a reserve shortstop.

Our View:Well, the White Sox certainly don't need to get any older, but even at age 42, you won't find a better defensive sub at short than Vizquel.

The Rangers have been in serious talks regarding re-signing Omar Vizquel, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Vizquel can still get the job done defensively, and batted .266 over 177 at-bats with Texas in 2009. He would serve as a quality backup behind Elvis Andrus at shortstop if brought back for next season.

MLB.com is reporting that Rangers' shortstop Omar Vizquel plans to return for the 2010 season. Next season will be Vizquel's 22nd major league campaign.

Our View:Vizquel has never been much of a hitter, but his 11 Gold Gloves put him in the elite at the shortstop position defensively. He may not be an everyday player as he heads for season number 22, but he can surely come off the bench as a defensive replacement.

Omar Vizquel has been scratched from Tuesday's lineup with flu-like symptoms, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Elvis Andrus will start at shortstop instead. Vizquel was going to play in his first game since July 10.

According to the Miami Herald, Omar Vizquel needs just one hit to tie the record for most in Major League history by a native of Venezuela.

Our View:Luis Aparicio currently holds the record with 2,677. Vizquel will clearly pass him, but as a backup in Texas no one is sure when. He also holds no fantasy value due to the fact that he isn't playing every day. Still, when he does break the record it will be a nice moment for the HOF-bound Vizquel.
