Shawn Estes has decided to have reconstructive left elbow surgery and will miss the rest of this season and possibly the start of the 2007 season, according to the AP. He will have the operation on June 7. Estes made just one start for the Padres this year.

Shawn Estes is "98 percent" certain he's going to have reconstructive surgery on his pitching elbow next week, according to the AP. He strained his left elbow during his Padres' debut on April 5 and was put on the disabled list two days later. Estes said Monday that he plans to get a third opinion, then likely have Tommy John surgery next week.

An MRI revealed that Shawn Estes has increased looseness in the ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
