Player Notes
March 11, 2010
Shawn Estes has been released by the Washington Nationals.

Our View:The veteran hurler inked a minor league deal with the club last month, but apparently was not working out. Do not expect him to appear in the major leagues this season.
February 6, 2010
After "retiring" last June, Shawn Estes has signed a minor-league contract with the Nationals.

Our View:He'll be given a chance to make the team in spring training. Estes, who went 2-3 with a 4.74 ERA in 43.2 innings for the Padres in 2008, has a career record of 101-93 to go along with a 4.71 ERA and 1.53 WHIP.
June 19, 2009
Shawn Estes has retired, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

Our View:Estes was a non-roster invitee to spring training with the Dodgers. He possessed an out clause for if he didn't make the team's opening day roster, but he accepted a demotion to Triple-A Albuquerque where he had a 3-4 record and 3.07 ERA in 73.1 innings. He is 101-93 lifetime with a 4.71 ERA.
January 9, 2009
The AP reports that Shawn Estes has signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers that could be worth as much as $1.55 million.

Our View:The 35-year-old left-hander has a career record of 101-93. Since 2005, he has only made 10 Major League appearances. Last season, he went 2-3 in eight starts for the Padres.
October 6, 2008
Shawn Estes cleared waivers on Monday and decided to become a free agent, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Estes only made it out to the hill for 43.2 innings due to a couple of injuries, and even when healthy his performance was less than ideal (4.74 ERA, 1.56 WHIP). He will likely latch on with someone because he is left-handed, but don't look for anything more than you saw from him this season.
