The Pirates could be interested in signing veteran free agent Paul Byrd, reports the Beaver County Times.

Our View:The rumor makes plenty of sense because Pirates GM Neal Huntington used to work for the Indians, where Byrd last signed a free agent contract.
September 7, 2008
Paul Byrd had a very nice game for the Red Sox, pitching six shutout innings against the Rangers, helping Boston to a 7-2 win.

Our View:This was easily his best performance in a Red Sox uniform, as he had given up four runs in three of his previous four starts. He remains an option only in AL-only leagues.
September 1, 2008
Paul Byrd improved to 3-1 with the Red Sox as he picked up his 10th victory of the year overall by lasting seven innings against the Orioles.

Our View:Byrd allowed four runs on the night despite being taken deep three times as he continues to pitch well enough to allow the big Boston bats to bash their way to victory.
August 27, 2008
Veteran hurler Paul Byrd showed why the Red Sox added him for the playoff stretch this evening, keeping the dreaded New York Yankees in check while the offense got work done, winning 11-3. Byrd pitched six innings, allowing two runs (both earned) on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Our View:Byrd moves to 9-11 on the season and 2-1 with Boston, touting an ERA of 4.55. Since July 4th, he has gone 6-1 over seven starts, giving up 17 combined earned runs.
August 27, 2008
Paul Byrd, who is 1-1 with his new team, takes the mound in New York tonight against Yankee starter Sidney Ponson. Byrd is 0-3 with a 4.18 ERA in five career starts at Yankee Stadium.

Our View:Byrd's last start at Yankee Stadium in May saw the veteran allow five runs and eight hits, including three home runs, over 6.1 innings of a 6-3 loss.
August 16, 2008
Paul Byrd made his Red Sox debut on Saturday and took the loss against the Blue Jays. The right-hander allowed 10 hits and four runs over 7.1 innings. He also walked none and struck out none.

Our View:Byrd pitched like, well, Paul Byrd. The veteran had been hot before moving to Boston, but we didn't expect that to last. Fantasy owners can feel free to use him for his win potential, but you shouldn't expect a great ERA.
August 16, 2008
Paul Byrd could not have asked for a better team to make his Red Sox debut against than Toronto. Players on the Blue Jays current roster are hitting a combined .226 off Byrd with a .262 average and just one home run.

Our View:Byrd has dominated the current players on Toronto's squad for whatever reason. Not a single Blue Jay with at least 10 career at-bats against Byrd is hitting better than .267 off of him. If you have him on your fantasy roster, be sure he's active.
August 14, 2008
There will be no "player to be named" in the deal that brought Paul Byrd to the Red Sox, according to the Boston Herald. The Red Sox have agreed to pick up all of Byrd’s remaining salary this season from Cleveland, an amount equal to about $2 million, hence making the trade a cash-only transaction.

Our View:The Red Sox were believed to be the only team willing to take the remaining $2 million on his salary. He is slated to start his first game with Boston Friday.
August 13, 2008
Paul Byrd will make his first start with the Red Sox on Friday, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Byrd is 4-0 over his last four starts with the Indians, with only four earned runs allowed over the span. He is worthy of starting in mixed leagues in his first start with Boston. He allowed 23 homers with Cleveland, but could be helped in that department by playing his home games at Fenway Park.
August 12, 2008
Red Sox acquired RHP Paul Byrd from the Indians for a player to be named later or cash, according to the AP.

Our View:The 37-year-old Byrd (7-10, 4.53 ERA) has won all four of his starts since the All-Star break.
August 9, 2008
Indians hurler Paul Byrd threw a complete game and got his seventh victory in Cleveland's 4-2 win over Toronto. Byrd gave up six hits and struck out two batters on the day.

Our View:Byrd could be a decent option in AL-only leagues, but those in mixed leagues should stay away from him, as there are certain to be better options.
August 2, 2008
Paul Byrd shut down the Twins in Saturday's 5-1 win, as he only allowed one earned run on six hits over seven innings, with two walks and one strikeout.

Our View:Byrd remains hot as he won his third straight start, with only two earned runs allowed over 20 innings. He should remain active in AL-only league lineups.
July 31, 2008
The Yankees are unlikely to acquire Paul Byrd from the Indians, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal. The Bronx Bombers have been frustrated with their pursuit of the Mariners' Jarrod Washburn and were "kicking around" the idea of trading for Byrd, but it appears that their interest is only mild.

Our View:The Rockies are also rumored to be interested in Byrd, but they also don't appear to be aggressively pursuing the veteran.
July 31, 2008
Paul Byrd told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that he heard the Yankees and Rockies were interested in acquiring him. "I think there are some teams interested, but I don't know if anything will get done," said Byrd.

Our View:Byrd hasn't been very good this year, but he wouldn't be a bad add for a team needing help at the back end of their rotation.
July 30, 2008
Paul Byrd might be in the sites of the Dodgers, according to a report on Newsday.

Our View:No further information was given in the report. Byrd is just 5-10 on the year with simply middling ratios (4.93 ERA, 1.36 WHIP), but a move to the NL would likely boost his value a bit, especially if he were to work in a pitchers' park like the one at Chavez Ravine.
July 28, 2008
Paul Byrd was exceptional against the Detroit Tigers on Monday. In 7.2 innings he allowed no runs, four hits and walked three.

Our View:Byrd no doubt increased his attractiveness to potential trade partners. The Indians would like to deal their aging pitcher for some prospects, but he had not been having a good season. Monday's start no doubt inspired some more confidence in him. Still, its hard to ignore the fact that he's given up 23 home runs in 115 innings this season.
July 26, 2008
The Cleveland Indians want pitcher Paul Byrd to fly away so they can acquire some prospects in a trade, according to ESPN.com. Though the Indians are giving it their best effort, nobody seems to be interested at the moment.

Our View:Byrd hasn't been quite as horrific as his 4-10, 5.28 ERA might indicate, but he's still been bad and does not belong on fantasy teams anywhere.
July 21, 2008
Paul Byrd held the Angels to one run over 5.1 innings on Monday and improved to 4-10. The veteran right-hander scattered nine hits, walked two, and struck out five.

Our View:Byrd was awful in his six starts leading into the All-Star break, and this one good showing doesn't really get him back on our good side.
July 9, 2008
Paul Byrd pitched well enough to win on Wednesday night. The right-handed veteran exited the 8-6 loss to the Tigers in the bottom of the seventh inning with a 6-1 lead. Reliever Rafael Betancourt, who is having a miserable season, walked Clete Thomas to load the bases and allowed a double to Carlos Guillen to make it 6-3. Matt Joyce then tied the game with a two-run homer ending Betancourt's night and Byrd's chance at fourth win.

Our View:Byrd has always pitched the Tigers well. He scattered nine hits, allowed one run (charged with three) walked one (in the first inning) and struck out five in the no-decision.
July 4, 2008
Paul Byrd was rocked for six earned runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings in Friday's disheartening 12-3 loss to the Twins in Minnesota, with three walks and four strikeouts. He gave up two homers, one to Nick Punto and the other to Delmon Young.

Our View:Byrd drops to 3-10, and has lost five-straight decisions. He has also given up 23 homers over 17 starts.
June 28, 2008
The Indians would like to get RHP Paul Byrd out of his personal slump this evening as they host the Cincinnati Reds, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:Byrd was 2-3 after a defeat of the Oakland Athletics on May 13, but has since dropped five of six decisions as his record has plummeted to 3-8 and his earned run average has risen from 3.61 to 5.21. He dropped a 4-3 verdict to the Los Angeles Dodgers in his last outing, allowing seven hits and four runs over seven innings on June 22. Byrd is 4-1 in 14 career games - seven starts - against the Reds, posting a 3.04 ERA and striking out 34 batters in 50 1/3 innings of work.
June 22, 2008
Paul Byrd allowed four runs over seven innings against the Dodgers as he issued zero walks with just one strikeout. Byrd fell to 3-8 with the loss.

Our View:In 15 starts this season, Byrd has allowed five or more earned runs six times. Byrd continues to be nothing more than what he is, and that is a mildly effective fantasy hurler who is only worth starting as a replacement arm.
June 22, 2008
The Indians will send RHP Paul Byrd to the mound today in the series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View:Byrd fell for the fourth time in his last five decisions on Tuesday against the Colorado Rockies, as he allowed five runs and nine hits in just four innings, dropping him to 3-7 on the season, while raising his earned run average to 5.21. The 37-year-old righty has struggled in his career against the Dodgers, posting an 0-4 mark to go along with a 4.63 ERA in 11 games, five of which have been starts.
June 1, 2008
Paul Byrd, who has been roughed up on the road this year, lasted only 4.1 innings in Sunday's 6-1 loss to Kansas City. The right-hander and was charged with six runs and nine hits. He dropped to 0-5 in six road starts.

Our View:Byrd is an inning-eater for the Indians. His low K Rate of 3.64 and 10 hits allowed per nine innings doesn't help fantasy owners outside of head-to-head formats.
May 20, 2008
Paul Byrd is pitching well with a 3.61 ERA and 1.12 WHIP but could be on the block as he is the oldest hurler in the Indians' rotation, and has his contract up, according to TribeTimeReport.com. The team would like to keep Aaron Laffey in the rotation with return of Jake Westbrook, and trading Byrd would be a sensible option.

Our View:The Brewers, Braves, and Astros were listed as teams that could show interest in Byrd, but the 37-year old hurler's $7.5 million dollar salary could be an issue.
May 13, 2008
Oakland and Cleveland locked horns this evening, and while the offense was more than enough for a 4-0 win for Cleveland, it was the work of RHP Paul Byrd that ruled the night. Byrd pitched 7 1/3 innings, shutting the A's out with no runs earned on just five hits.

Our View:To add to the pleasure, Byrd failed to walk a single batter and struck out seven, good for his second win of the year.
May 8, 2008
Paul Byrd was dealt his third loss of the season against the Yankees on Thursday. Byrd was rocked for five runs on eight hits over 6.1 innings, with no walks or no strikeouts. He surrendered three home runs. Byrd is now 1-3 with a 4.28 ERA.

Our View:Byrd carried a solid 1.17 WHIP into this game, but has now given up 13 home runs over 45.2 innings. He only has 15 strikeouts as well.
May 1, 2008
Paul Byrd lowered his ERA to 3.74 after holding the Mariners without a run over seven innings. Byrd allowed four hits and only one walk on the night.

Our View:Unfortunately for Byrd the bullpen blew the game thanks to some spotty defense, but Byrd continues to be a solid option in AL Only leagues, provided that you planned ahead and have your strikeouts from other sources.
April 20, 2008
Paul Byrd had his best performance of the season in the Indians Sunday 2-1 loss to the Twins. The Cleveland right-hander allowed one run on six hits, walked none and struck out three.

Our View:The lack of run support cost Byrd and the Indians a win Sunday.
April 9, 2008
Paul Byrd was not able to bounce back from a tough first outing as he was hit early and hard in a 9-5 loss to the Angels on Wednesday The right-hander allowed six runs and five hits in three innings, raising his ERA to 11.05.
April 9, 2008
Paul Byrd will be looking to bounce back from a tough first outing of 2008 as he takes the hill on the road against the Angels today, according to MLB.com. Byrd is notably 7-4 with a 4.23 ERA in 20 career appearances at Angel Stadium. He will square off against Dustin Moseley, who is also looking to bounce back, as he currently holds a 0-1 record and a 9.00 ERA
March 25, 2008
Paul Byrd suffered through a nightmarish outing against the Yankees on Tuesday as he allowed five runs on 10 hits over 6.1 innings, with three walks and one strikeout. The Indians have to be displeased with their middle of the rotation starter's performance today.
February 15, 2008
Paul Byrd is still awaiting word from the commissioner's office on whether or not he'll face any kind of punishment for his use of HGH. "At this point, I'm still awaiting their decision in regards to the past and in regards to the future," he said in the AP. "That is really all I can say." Byrd admitted he had purchased HGH from 2002-05, saying he did so for a medical condition and under a doctor's supervision.
