Player Notes
July 4, 2008
Paul Byrd was rocked for six earned runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings in Friday's disheartening 12-3 loss to the Twins in Minnesota, with three walks and four strikeouts. He gave up two homers, one to Nick Punto and the other to Delmon Young.

Our View:Byrd drops to 3-10, and has lost five-straight decisions. He has also given up 23 homers over 17 starts.

The Indians would like to get RHP Paul Byrd out of his personal slump this evening as they host the Cincinnati Reds, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:Byrd was 2-3 after a defeat of the Oakland Athletics on May 13, but has since dropped five of six decisions as his record has plummeted to 3-8 and his earned run average has risen from 3.61 to 5.21. He dropped a 4-3 verdict to the Los Angeles Dodgers in his last outing, allowing seven hits and four runs over seven innings on June 22. Byrd is 4-1 in 14 career games - seven starts - against the Reds, posting a 3.04 ERA and striking out 34 batters in 50 1/3 innings of work.
June 22, 2008
Paul Byrd allowed four runs over seven innings against the Dodgers as he issued zero walks with just one strikeout. Byrd fell to 3-8 with the loss.

Our View:In 15 starts this season, Byrd has allowed five or more earned runs six times. Byrd continues to be nothing more than what he is, and that is a mildly effective fantasy hurler who is only worth starting as a replacement arm.
June 22, 2008
The Indians will send RHP Paul Byrd to the mound today in the series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View:Byrd fell for the fourth time in his last five decisions on Tuesday against the Colorado Rockies, as he allowed five runs and nine hits in just four innings, dropping him to 3-7 on the season, while raising his earned run average to 5.21. The 37-year-old righty has struggled in his career against the Dodgers, posting an 0-4 mark to go along with a 4.63 ERA in 11 games, five of which have been starts.

Paul Byrd, who has been roughed up on the road this year, lasted only 4.1 innings in Sunday's 6-1 loss to Kansas City. The right-hander and was charged with six runs and nine hits. He dropped to 0-5 in six road starts.

Our View:Byrd is an inning-eater for the Indians. His low K Rate of 3.64 and 10 hits allowed per nine innings doesn't help fantasy owners outside of head-to-head formats.
