MLB.com reports that the Tigers will not pick up Edgar Renteria's option for next season making him a free agent this winter.

Our View:Renteria would be well-served to go back to the NL. His two seasons in the AL, 2005 and 2008, have been arguably the two worst seasons of his 13-year career. In 2007, he hit .332 with Atlanta.
September 28, 2008
Edgar Renteria was forced out of Sunday's game before the fifth inning due to a left pectoral strain, according to the AP.

Our View:The injury is not considered serious, and he was replaced in the lineup by Ryan Raburn.
September 26, 2008
Edgar Renteria could have played his last game in a Tigers uniform, according to the Detroit Free Press. Renteria, dealing with an injured left pectoral muscle, will likely be unavailable this weekend, and the club is far from certain to pick up his $12 million option for 2009.

Our View:If the club chooses to decline the $12 million option, Renteria will be due a $3 million buyout. Given his average work on defense and at the plate (.270-10-54-68-6) it would be a complete shocker if the club picked up the option. A little advice for you Mr. Renteria - return to the NL where you have success and stay away from the AL that saps your effectiveness like kryptonite to Superman.
September 21, 2008
Edgar Renteria picked up three hits in four at-bats, including a double and a home run, though it was not enough as the Tigers fell to Cleveland, 10-5.

Our View:Renteria has been a disappointment to both the Tigers and fantasy owners, but maybe he can pick it up some at the end of the year.
September 16, 2008
The AP reports that manager Jim Leyland expects Edgar Renteria to be back in the lineup on Friday against the Cleveland Indians.

Our View:The shortstop has played just one day since September 9th due to a bruised chest. He has hit .298 since the All-Star break and should be able to produce down the stretch knowing that he is playing for a contract.
