Player Notes
June 24, 2008
The Tigers found failure at the ballpark tonight, falling 8-4 to the Cardinals, though designated hitter and recently-returned-from-injury slugger Gary Sheffield did what he could to boost his mates. Sheffield went 1-for-4, hitting his fourth homer of the season to total two RBIs and one runs scored on the night.

Our View:This was Sheff's first game since May 26th, hitting his first homer since May 23rd. Now that he's back he's already making noise and hopes to get the Tigers back in the fray for the AL Central.
June 24, 2008
Gary Sheffield has recovered from his strained left oblique and has been activated from the DL, according to the AP. The team optioned Jeff Larish to Triple-A Toledo to make room on the roster for Sheffield. He will start tonight.

Our View:Sheffield was only hitting .213 with three homers over 136 at-bats prior to landing on the DL, so fantasy owners should wait until he proves effective before starting him again.
June 24, 2008
Gary Sheffield could be activated from the DL as early as Tuesday, according to the Detroit Free Press. GM Dave Dombrowski noted that Sheffield was scheduled to fly to Detroit for a meeting with team officials today. Sheffield has been on a minor league rehab assignment with Class-A Lakeland since the start of last week as he recovered from a strained left oblique.

Our View:As long as Sheffield does not suffer any more setbacks with the injury, it is likely he will rejoin the active roster soon. He has been serving as the primary DH most of the time this season, and his return could impact the playing time of rookie Jeff Larish, who is currently working as the DH against righties.
June 23, 2008
Gary Sheffield's return to the Tigers will be delayed as he missed two games over the weekend during his rehab assignment at Single-A Lakeland, according to the Detroit Free Press. He missed Friday's game to attend a graduation, and Saturday's game was rained out. Sheffield's upcoming schedule has not been set, and Manager Jim Leyland said, "I don't know how that's going to play out."

Our View:It was believed that Sheffield may rejoin the Tigers before Tuesday's series opener against the Cardinals, but now his return date in uncertain.
June 15, 2008
Gary Sheffield, who is recovering from a strained left oblique, will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Lakeland Monday night, according to BlessYouBoys.com.

Our View:Manager Jim Leyland commented that he is going to let Sheffield tell the team when he feels ready to return. At that time, Jeff Larish will likely be shipped back to Triple-A Toledo.
