Player Notes
July 8, 2008
The Cleveland Indians transferred Scott Elarton to the 15-day disabled list with a non-baseball medical condition.

Our View:The right-hander was originally placed on the restricted list June 30 after informing the team he needed to leave for personal reasons.
July 1, 2008
Scott Elarton will be leaving the Indians to deal with a personal matter, according to MILB.com. "There's not much I can say," manager Eric Wedge said. "He has some personal things he has to take care of. There's nothing I can say outside of that."

Our View:Elarton has struggled with his control this season (5.28 BB/9) leading to a terrible WHIP (1.63), but as the mop up reliever in the Indians pen he wouldn't of had much value if he had thrown strikes. Tom Mastny was called up to take his roster spot.
May 25, 2008
The Cleveland Indians have purchased the contract of RHP Scott Elarton , a move made in response to the injury recently suffered by Fausto Carmona, according to the MLB.com.

Our View:Elarton was once a starter for the Indians but, at 33-years of age, is now working as a reliever. Elarton has recently told reporters he was heavily considering retirement, but now he has another shot at the majors and could be an integral part of a bullpen in desperate need of help.
March 25, 2008
The Indians reassigned Scott Elarton to Triple-A Buffalo prior to their Tuesday exhibition game, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "They had no expectations when I came in here," said Elarton. "They told me to have no expectations. But they liked the way I pitched. I can still pitch at this level -- no doubt about it." Elarton allowed just three runs in 13 1/3 spring innings, while striking out five and walking another five.
March 10, 2008
Scott Elarton is fighting hard for a roster spot with the Indians, according to IndiansConfidential.com. He has pitched well as he has only allowed one run over six innings, but the Indians have a strong and deep pitching staff and he will be lucky to make it as a bottom of the line reliever. He commented, "Instead of just getting ready for the season, I'm trying to make the team."
