Player Notes

Scott Rolen was a last-minute scratch from the Reds lineup on Saturday, according to MLB.com's Mark Sheldon.

Our View:You never know with Rolen. Obviously, his fantasy value is very limited because of his long and extensive injury. He's best owned in NL-only formats.
December 19, 2009
According to MLBlogs.com, the Reds and third baseman Scott Rolen have agreed on a two-year contract extension.

Our View:The Reds restructured Rolen's contract to give him two more guaranteed seasons, keeping him around through 2012, and a $5 million signing bonus defered over the next three years. The move frees up payroll for the Reds as Rolen was originally slated to make $11 million this season, but now will earn $6 million in 2010, $6.5 million in 2011 and $6.5 million in 2012. The slick-fielding third baseman's production dropped off after coming to Cincinnati at the trade deadline last year, but he's still a viable late-round option at the hot corner in fantasy drafts.

The St. Louis Post Dispatch reports. Scott Rolen is back in the lineup for the Reds on Tuesday after dealing with back spasms.

Our View:Rolen missed the Reds past two games against the Astros, but his back is healthy enough to return to action. This will be his first series against the Cardinals since leaving the team. The Reds visited St. Louis last month, but Rolen missed the series due to concussion symptoms.
September 22, 2009
Scott Rolen led the charge for the Reds in Tuesday's 10-4 win over the Pirates. He went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and three RBI.

Our View:Rolen has more or less been a dud since coming to the Reds, so it's nice to see him have a productive game. Coming into play on Tuesday he was hitting just .214 in September and had only homered twice since July 27th.
September 15, 2009
Scott Rolen went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI in the Reds 5-4 come from behind win over the Astros on Tuesday.

Our View:Rolen hasn't been the same player since coming over from Toronto and the third baseman has been especially cold in September. He's amassed just 15 total bases this month.
