December 2, 2008
Bobby Abreu was not offered salary arbitration by the Yankees, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View:The Yankees don't want to give him the three-year deal that he covets, and the club looks to be fine in the outfield with Johnny Damon, Xavier Nady, and a platoon of Melky Cabrera and Brett Gardner. Abreu recently stated that he would like to play for the Marlins.
December 1, 2008
Bobby Abreu would reportedly like to play for the Marlins, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View:The Marlins could use his offensive production, especially after losing Mike Jacobs, but he would be a liability in the outfield and the club may not have the payroll to target him.
November 18, 2008
The Yankees have opted to offer Bobby Abreu arbitration, as reported by Sports Illustrated.

Our View:The Yankees are anticipating that he signs with another MLB club, which would give the Yankees two draft picks as he is a Type-A free agent. He covets a three-year deal, and the outfielder was believed to be on the radar of the Cubs and Mets.
November 17, 2008
The New York Yankees are likely not going to attempt to re-sign right fielder Bobby Abreu, according to Yankees.com.

Our View:Abreu will want a multi-year deal, and the Yankees will be spending their money on pitching this year. They also have Xavier Nady to man the post in right field, lessening the blow of Abreu's departure.
November 14, 2008
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch states that the Cubs may pursue Bobby Abreu.

Our View:Manager Lou Piniella covets a left-handed hitter with athleticism on the basepaths, and Abreu would fit the bill. He batted .296 over 156 games with the Yankees in 2008, while scoring 100 runs and stealing 22 bases.
October 31, 2008
The Yankees reportedly plan to offer Bobby Abreu arbitration, according to the NY Post.

Our View:He filed for free agency, but the Yankees have discussed internally about retaining the 34-year-old left-handed hitter on a one-year contract even if it means his salary being determined through the arbitration process. If he declines, the Yankees receive draft picks when he signs with another club. If Abreu accepts arbitration, he is considered a signed player.
October 4, 2008
Bobby Abreu wants at least a three-year contract as he heads toward free agency for the first time in his career, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View:Abreu prefers to remain with the Yankees, but he does not want a one-year deal. It is believed the Yankees will offer Abreu arbitration and be content with compensatory draft picks if and when he turns it down. He scored 100 runs and registered 100 RBI over 156 games in 2008.
September 24, 2008
Bobby Abreu hit an extra-innings grand slam to help the Yankees to their seventh straight win on Wednesday night. The grand slam was Abreu's only hit on the night and he also struck out three times.

Our View:Abreu has driven in 11 runs in his last ten games and is only one RBI away from the century mark. If he gets to 100 RBI it will be the eighth straight season he's done it.
September 18, 2008
Bobby Abreu was 3-for-5 on Thursday night in the Yankees' 9-2 win over the White Sox. To go along with his two home runs, Abreu drove in six runs.

Our View:If Abreu can drive in five more runs he will reach the century mark for the eighth straight season. Abreu has had somewhat of a quiet fantasy year even though he might end up with 100 RBI and hit over .300.
September 6, 2008
Bobby Abreu was 3-for-4 in Seattle on Saturday. He scored twice and had three RBI to go with his fourth triple and 16th home run of the season.

Our View:It was his first home run since August second and his first triple since May 30th. The long time fantasy juggernaut and soon-to-be free agent should still hit 100 RBI and 100 runs this season. He currently has 87 in both categories.
September 4, 2008
Bobby Abreu wasn't in the Yankees starting lineup on Thursday due to a sore left wrist, according to Newsday. In his place the club started Brett Gardner.

Our View:The length of time Abreu will be sidelined is unknown as he apparently injured the wrist last night on a slide in the ninth inning. Could this "injury" be the result of the fact that the Yanks are facing Scott Kazmir?
August 29, 2008
Bobby Abreu went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Friday's close 2-1 win over the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium. He registered a single and a double.

Our View:He collected his 83rd RBI of the season and raised his average a few points to .298, and should remain productive down the stretch for fantasy owners.
August 22, 2008
Bobby Abreu collected five hits in five at-bats for the Yankees to help take down Baltimore by a score of 9-4.

Our View:Abreu also scored twice, drove in a run and was caught stealing. It figures he was trying to get to second base because each of his hits were singles. Still, fantasy owners have nothing to complain about.
August 19, 2008
Bobby Abreu has had good success against Toronto's A.J. Burnett, the pitcher he and his Yankees teammates will face off against on Tuesday. In 46 career at-bats, Abreu is hitting .326, and has coaxed 12 walks off the right-hander, leading Abreu to a career .458 on-base percentage against him.

Our View:Despite having just one home run in August, Abreu is nonetheless hitting .303 on the month, with a healthy .378 on-base percentage. He looks to add to those numbers to the benefit of fantasy owners Tuesday.
August 11, 2008
Bobby Abreu had two of the Yankees four hits on Monday night as they were shut out by Glen Perkins and Joe Nathan.

Our View:Abreu is up to .289 thanks to a .344 run over his last 23 games that has also seen him produce 23 runs, 18 RBI and five home runs. Abreu continues to be one of the better five category performers in the fantasy game despite a declining skill set.
August 7, 2008
Bobby Abreu, who will become a free agent following the 2008 campaign, would like to remain with the Yankees, according to MLB.com. He said, "I'm a free agent at the end of the year, so you understand how that is. Here is where I want to be, but we still have this season to play. There's still a long time before we talk about that. Things have been great here. I really like it. This is a team that's always in competition for the playoffs and it seems like you always have the opportunity to make it to the World Series. You can't find that everywhere."

Our View:Abreu can still play at a high level, and is among the most consistent players currently on the Yankees' roster. The 34-year-old will keep his fingers crossed that he can re-sign after this season, and finish his career in pinstripes.
July 30, 2008
Bobby Abreu led the way in Wednesday's 13-3 rout over the Orioles, as he went 3-for-4 with three RBI. He hit a single and two homers.

Our View:He raised his average to .288 and now has 13 homers and 71 RBI. He has recorded three hits in back-to-back games.
July 22, 2008
The Yanks brought the wood to the late innings of tonight's battke against the Twins, winning 8-2 with seven combined runs in the sixth and seventh innings. One man contributing major efforts the cause would be outfielder Bobby Abreu , going 2-for-4 on the night with his 24th double and 11th homer (hit in the sixth) of the season to total three RBIs and two runs scored.

Our View:Abreu has struggled at the dish, touting a lowly .252 average through June only to worsen to .234 in July. This was his first home runs since June 25th and one of just three multi-RBI games this month.
July 10, 2008
The Yanks managed just seven total hits as a team in taking the 4-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates this evening, though outfielder Bobby Abreu attempted to get 'em on track. Abreu went 1-for-3 at the dish with one walk, driving in two runs on his single to give the Yanks their only runs.

Our View:Abreu is struggling through a rough July, hitting just .188 coming into tonight with no homers and just four RBIs. He's battling and every little positive note helps.
July 5, 2008
Bobby Abreu went 0-for-4 on Saturday and is now hitless in his last three games covering 12 AB to drop his average to .275.

Our View:Abreu's counting numbers are still solid (48 runs, 10 HR, 55 RBI), but his ratios continue to lag behind his career performance, especially in the OBP category where he has realized a loss of about .060 points from his carer .405 mark. The overall production should make you happy enough, but it's clear that his days of stardom are in the rear window.
July 4, 2008
Bobby Abreu is in the Yankees lineup hitting third against Josh Beckett, according to the Boston Globe. However, Abreu is hitting just .193 against Beckett, and has struck out 20 times in 57 at-bats against the big right-hander.

Our View:If you have another option on your fantasy team's bench, today might be a good day to utilize him in place of Abreu. Striking out 35% of the time against a pitcher is not a good thing.
June 27, 2008
Bobby Abreu went 4-for-4 with three RBI in Friday's 9-0 win over the Mets in the bottom half of a double-header. He hit one double and three singles.

Our View:Abreu impressively racked up nine RBI over his last three games, and has seven hits over his last two. Continue to start him while he's hot.
June 25, 2008
Bobby Abreu broke a long cold spell on Wednesday night as he went 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs and four RBI thanks in part to his 10th home run of the year.

Our View:Abreau's average is only .279 well below his career mark of .299, but of more concern is his OBP that is about .060 points below his career .405 mark.
June 25, 2008
Bobby Abreu is having another streaky season at the plate. Since June 12, Abreu is hitting .121 (5-41) with one home run, four RBI, four runs scored and a mere two bases on balls.

Our View:The two walks in 41 at-bats is alarming. It's a red flag that the Yankee right fielder is not being selective at the plate which has obviously had direct correlation to his .121 batting average over the last two weeks.
June 8, 2008
Yankee outfielder Bobby Abreu swung a mean stick in support of the 6-3 win over the Royals today, going 2-for-4 at the plate with his eighth home run of the season to total three RBIs and two runs scored.

Our View:Abreu hasn't been hitting at his normal pace this month, now sporting a .235 batting average for the month, but he has six RBIs through eight games.
May 31, 2008
Bobby Abreu went 2-for-5 with two RBI in Saturday's close 7-6 win over the Twins. He also registered a stolen base, his fifth of the season.

Our View:Abreu raised his average to .298, with 36 RBI, with 20 coming in May.
May 14, 2008
Bobby Abreu is struggling with the Tampa pitching staff. In the last two games the Yankee right fielder is 0-for-8 with three strikeouts.

Our View:Abreu's lines over the first six weeks are acceptable (.287/.355/.427) but he's beginning to show his age with some regression in the power and speed categories (only 3 stolen bases).
April 26, 2008
Bobby Abreu is going to ride the pine in favor of Shelley Duncan in right field today, according to The Cleveland Plain Dealer. The Yankees are facing Indians' lefty Jeremy Sowers.

Our View:Abreu is hitting .297 with three homers and 16 RBI over 23 games, and earned a day off. Abreau remains a bargain as a fantasy outfielder.
April 24, 2008
Bobby Abreu had two hits, two RBI and scored a run on Thursday for the Yankees.

Our View:Every year this guys is overlooked because of his declining power, and every year he returns a profit because of his all-around game. Don't expect this year to be any different.
April 22, 2008
Bobby Abreu hit a grand slam in Tuesday's win over the White Sox. The outfielder added a single over five at-bats. Abreu is up to three homers on the year.

Our View:Abreu didn't pop his third dinger until June 6 in 2007, so his start is a very good sign. We don't believe Bobby will ever hit 30 bombs again, but 20-25 would be nice.
April 7, 2008
Bobby Abreu had a big night on Monday as he went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI for the Yankees. Abreu is often overlooked due to his declining home run totals, but hitting in the third spot in the Yankees order should pretty much guarantee him a shot at 90 RBI and 90 runs, numbers he has reached in each of the past five seasons.
March 25, 2008
Bobby Abreu had a tough day at the plate against the Phillies on Monday as he went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. His average still remains very strong at .441 as he tries to build upon his solid 2007 campaign.
