In 11 years of MLB experience, Jenkins has never batted leadoff and had just four at-bats over the course of his career in such a spot. Our View:Manager Charlie Manuel explained the desire to keep Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, and Pat Burrell intact in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th spots in the lineup were the critical factor in this decision, also adding that Jayson Werth was a consideration but was pushed into the 2nd hole to avoid having three left-handed hitters in a row. Jimmy Rollins is expected to return to the field on Tuesday, so the change will be short lived but intriguing. |
