Todd Helton did not start for the seventh straight game Friday because of a strained left oblique. Helton hoped to play Friday, but trainers gave him one more day as a precaution. He hit in the cage, ran and took batting practice with no problems.

Todd Helton expects to return to the Rockies' lineup either tonight or Saturday, according to the Denver Post. He believes his left oblique strain will actually make him a better hitter. "I'm not going to swing as hard. That's been a problem this season," said Helton. "I will swing at 70 to 80 percent."

Todd Helton sat out for the second straight game on Saturday because of a sore back that's been bothering him all week, according to the AP. He probably won't start on Sunday, either. "Could he play? Yes. Do we want him to play? No," Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said. "He's available to pinch-hit, but we'd prefer he not play so that would give him three or four days off in a row."

Hurdle also insisted it's not related to the bone spur problem Helton had back in 2002. Helton appeared as a pinch hitter in the ninth and grounded out.
