Player Notes
October 5, 2008
Jeff Suppan continued his struggles this season after allowing five runs on six hits to get the loss in Game 4 of the NLDS.

Our View:Suppan went 0-3 with an 8.44 ERA in September, so this poor start was not shocking. With CC Sabathia and Ben Sheets possibly leaving via free agency, the Brewers need Suppan to step up next season.
September 26, 2008
Jeff Suppan issued one earned run on eight hits over five innings in Friday's 5-1 win over the Cubs, with one walk and five strikeouts.

Our View:He was dealt a no decision, so he closes out his season even at 10-10 over 31 starts. He did not register a win in September.
September 20, 2008
Despite a string of poor performances, Milwaukee hurler Jeff Suppan claims that he is not injured, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. “My arm feels fine. It’s really execution. It’s not effective,” he said.

Our View:Suppan has an ERA above 10.00, and has a record of 0-3 so far in September, contributing to the team's collapse.
September 19, 2008
Jeff Suppan was only able to get through two innings on Friday night for the wild card contending Milwaukee Brewers. The Reds scored five runs off of him thanks to home runs by Jay Bruce and Joey Votto.

Our View:Pressure pitching is supposed to be Suppan's thing but he has been awful in September. Heading into Friday night's game, he was 0-2 in three September starts with a 8.79 ERA.
September 14, 2008
Jeff Suppan was ripped for eight hits and six runs in 3.2 innings on Sunday night. Suppan struck out just one while walking four in his ninth loss of the year.

Our View:Over his last three starts, which just so happens to coincide with the Brewers struggles, Suppan owns an 0-2 mark with a horrid 8.79 ERA and a 2.16 WHIP. That is serious danger territory so be sure he is on your bench if he is still on your roster.
September 4, 2008
Jeff Suppan lasted 5.1 innings on Thursday and the results were predictably average as he allowed five runs, four earned, in his eighth loss of the year.

Our View:This was actually Suppan's first loss in in six decisions during which time he lasted seven innings five times. Suppan is only advisable as an injury fill-in if you are in a mixed league or if you are in desperate need of picking up some wins.
August 30, 2008
Jeff Suppan only allowed two earned runs on three hits over seven innings in Saturday's 11-3 win over the Pirates, with two walks and two strikeouts.

Our View:Suppan claimed his 10th win of the season, and finished August with a 5-0 mark. He is worthy of fantasy lineups in NL-only leagues heading into the final month of the regular season.
August 12, 2008
Jeff Suppan threw eight solid innings, allowing two runs on four hits in Milwaukee's 5-2 win over the Padres.

Our View:Suppan has a victory in each of his last three starts, and carries a 2.05 ERA during that time. He's not fantasy worthy in mixed leagues, but his recent performances have made him a viable option in NL-only formats.
August 6, 2008
Jeff Suppan allowed three earned runs on seven hits over seven innings in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Reds at the Great American Ballpark, with no walks and three strikeouts.

Our View:He evens his record to 7-7 and has won back-to-back starts. He is pitching well right now, and is worth consideration in NL-only leagues if you need help at the position.
August 1, 2008
Jeff Suppan hurled seven shutout innings against the Braves on Friday night to improve his record to 6-7 on the season.

Our View:Suppan walked three and struck out only one on the night, though he baffled the Braves with a series of off-speed pitches. He remains nothing more than a bottom tier fantasy option.
July 22, 2008
Jeff Suppan allowed three runs and eight hits in seven innings after being activated from the 15-day disabled list with joint irritation in his elbow

Our View:It was a decent return for Sup. On a team like Milwaukee, who has homered in 18 straight games, any pitcher that can keep the game close has to be monitored.
July 22, 2008
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch indicates that Jeff Suppan is ready to be activated from the DL for tonight's start against the Cardinals, his former team. He has recovered from joint irritation in his right elbow.

Our View:Suppan will be a welcome addition back to the Brewers' rotation, but is not good enough to consider for fantasy lineups, as he held a 4.71 ERA and 1.60 WHIP over 101.1 innings this season, with only 55 strikeouts.
July 13, 2008
Jeff Suppan is progressing nicely and will be back in the rotation when he is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list on July 22, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View:Suppan is scheduled to face the Cardinals on that day, and he is expected to make that start. For the season, Suppan does not have numbers strong enough to be considered a viable option on fantasy teams.
July 7, 2008
Jeff Suppan was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday due to a joint irritation of the right elbow, this according to The Indy Channel. The move is more likely a maneuver to make room on the roster for newly acquired southpaw C.C. Sabathia.

Our View:Suppan appears to be the odd man out of the Brewers rotation. The right-handed veteran allowed six runs in just three innings in a no-decision against the Pirates on Sunday. Suppan sports a 5-6 record with a 4.71 earned run average in 18 starts this season.
June 20, 2008
Jeff Suppan was brutal on Friday night as he allowed six runs, three of which were earned, while recording just five outs to fall to 4-5 on the year.

Our View:Soft tossers like Suppan regularly get beat around the yard when they don't have their control, and that was obvious from the start tonight. Still, he is sporting a 3.97 ERA, though a better measure of his value is his 1.23 K/BB ratio and WHIP north of 1.50.
June 14, 2008
Milwaukee RHP Jeff Suppan was strong with the arm this evening but the relief pitching let it all go, falling 9-4 to the Minnesota Twins. Suppan pitched seven innings with two earned runs allowed on seven hits, surrendering just one walk and five strikeouts.

Our View:Suppan walked with no decision, voiding an effort to get an official win streak going (sporting two wins over his last three starts with a no-decision sandwiched in between).
May 28, 2008
Milwaukee RHP Jeff Suppan improved to 3-4 this evening as his Brewers found a way to score one run while Suppan let his arm carry the rest of the load. Suppan pitched eight innings, allowing no runs on four hits with five walks and seven strikeouts.

Our View:Suppan has suffered consecutive losses leading into this one, but tonight's performance was his deepest this season and brings the hurler to 13 walks versus 31 strikeouts.
May 17, 2008
Jeff Suppan gave up four runs on nine hits in six innings, and lost for the third time in four starts as the Boston Red Sox beat the Brewers 5-3 on Saturday. The Brewers have lost three straight overall.

Our View:Suppan struggled from the start. After retiring the first two batters in the first, Suppan walked Ortiz, hit Ramirez on the left hand and allowed Kevin Youkilis' single. J.D. Drew then walked to give Boston a 1-0 lead. The Brewers right hander threw 31 pitches in the first inning.
May 11, 2008
Jeff Suppan allowed one run on six hits, walked five and struck out four to pick up the first win for a Milwaukee starter other than Ben Sheets since Manny Parra beat San Francisco on April 5.

Our View:Suppan was as good as he will be on Sunday, and the performance wasn't surprising considering he has a history of being effective against his old team.
April 30, 2008
Jeff Suppan was battered on Wednesday night to the tune of 11 runs, eight earned, by the Cubs as he saw his ERA go from 3.48 to 5.19.

Our View:The worst thing that can happen to a fantasy squad in most cases is to count on mediocre pitchers because inevitably they lay an egg like this that simply dusts your ratios. Suppan is servicable in NL Only leagues, but stay far away from him in mixed leagues.
April 8, 2008
Jeff Suppan is aiming for a 2-0 start as he battles the Reds at home on Tuesday, according to MLB.com. Suppan held the Cubs to two runs on six hits in his first win of the season, and notably went 9-3 last season with a 3.87 ERA at Miller Park. He will square off against rookie phenom Johnny Cueto, who racked up 10 strikeouts in his first outing. This should be a great battle today.
April 2, 2008
Jeff Suppan won his first game of the season by allowing only two runs in 6.1 innings against the Cubs on Wednesday. Suppan, who allowed eight base runners while striking out only two batters, figures to be a back of the rotation filler in mixed leagues as he should provide double digit wins, though his ratios and strikeout totals could well be below below the league average for a starting pitcher.
March 23, 2008
Jeff Suppan will pitch second behind Ben Sheets at the beginning of the season, according to SI.com. Manager Yost stated that he does not yet know how the rest of the rotation will be set. Suppan is having a rough spring with a 11.37 ERA over 12.2 innings, so hopefully he can turn it around before the regular season starts.
March 13, 2008
Jeff Suppan had a tough day on the bump as he allowed six runs on seven hits over three innings of work, with three walks and one strikeout. He continues to have a tough spring and looks to remain a weak link in the middle of their rotation.
