Manager Tony La Russa said Tuesday that Jason Isringhausen is coming along well from his September hip surgery, according to Sports Ticker. La Russa also stated that if Izzy was healthy to start the year, he would be the team's closer.

Jason Isringhausen said he plans to be ready when the season begins, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He underwent surgery in late September that shaved a bone spur from the neck of his femur. "Unless I have some kind of dumb setback, I'll be ready," Isringhausen said. "I haven't started playing catch yet and loading up the hip. But everything else has gone well so far."

Jason Isringhausen had arthroscopic surgery on his arthritic left hip on Thursday, the AP reports. The Cardinals said he'll start physical rehab next week and will be on crutches for about a month.

Jason Isringhausen will undergo season-ending surgery on his left hip on Thursday. Isringhausen came to the decision after meeting with several specialists. Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said that Braden Looper and Adam Wainwright will handle save chances.

According to the AP, St. Louis pitching coach Dave Duncan announced Saturday that Jason Isringhausen is likely done for the reason due to a bad left hip, which will probably require surgery. "I don't expect that Izzy's going to pitch anymore," Duncan said after a 6-1 victory over San Francisco. Isringhausen, who has blown a career-high 10 saves this season for the NL Central leading Cardinals, has not pitched since September 6

Jason Isringhausen, who had a cortisone shot Monday for his ailing left hip, was not encouraged after throwing approximately 40 pitches in a bullpen session before Friday night's game with San Francisco, according to the AP. "I still feel it at times," Isringhausen said. "I'll see how it is tomorrow, and take it day by day. I need to talk to Walt Jocketty, Tony La Russa and Dave Duncan and find out what their plans are for me, and just kind of go from there."

The degenerative hip condition afflicting Jason Isringhausen is not believed to be career-ending but will require surgery in upcoming weeks, several people familiar with the case told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Thursday. "It's a fact that what he has can't be addressed without some sort of procedure," Cardinals medical supervisor Dr. George Paletta said. Isringhausen will throw a bullpen session Friday or Saturday, with an eye towards getting a sense of if he can pitch again this season. Even if Isringhausen does come back, the Cardinals are expected to stick with others in the closer role, probably Adam Wainwright and Braden Looper.

Jason Isringhausen received a cortisone shot in his ailing hip on Monday, according to the AP. He has been ruled out until at least this weekend.
September 8, 2006
Jason Isringhausen is expected to miss at least a week so he can let the pain in his left hip subside, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The Cardinals may close with a committee in hib absence, with Braden Looper and Adam Wainright two possible options.
September 7, 2006
After Jason Isringhausen blew another save (his 10th of the year) on Wednesday, there have been whispers that his problems could be related to a degenerative hip condition that required surgery nearly two years ago, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Isringhausen, however, isn't blaming his problems on his hip. "It's September. My body is getting old. That's it," he said. When pressed by reporters about his physical condition, Isringhausen merely replied, "My arm feels great. Let's leave it at that." There have been radio reports out of St. Louis, however, that the injury may force Isringhausen to miss some time. If he does have to sit out some games, Braden Looper or Adam Wainwright would likely be the first to get the call in the ninth.

Jason Isringhausen was given his second straight day off Wednesday. After the closer blew two of his past three save opportunities, Izzy, manager Tony La Russa and pitching coach Dave Duncan all characterized the days off as a mental break, according to the AP. "He'll be fine," Duncan said. "At the end of the season we'll be happy we have him." Adam Wainwright probably would get the call if the Cards need a closer while Isringhausen is held out.
