Player Notes
July 3, 2009
Tim Wakefield allowed five runs on ten hits over eight innings on Friday, but did not factor in the decision as the Red Sox fell to the Mariners 7-6 in 11 innings.

Our View:Not Wakefield's best game, but he did go eight innings and gave his team a chance to win. He struck out three and did not walk a batter. The crafty knuckleballer still remains a solid fantasy option in mixed leagues.
June 27, 2009
Tim Wakefield improved to 10-3 on Saturday, keeping the Braves off the scoreboard in six innings and allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out one.

Our View:The 42-year-old Wakefield remains one of the toughest in the game to hit when his knuckler is in top form, and that it was on Saturday. Though he'll get roughed up pretty bad from time to time, his potential in the win column keeps him as a fine roster filler in most formats.
June 16, 2009
Tim Wakefield only gave up two earned runs on six hits over six innings in Tuesday's 8-2 win over Florida at Fenway Park. He had one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View:Wakefield claimed his team-leading ninth win of the season, and is 6-0 at home. Keep the veteran knuckleballer active in fantasy leagues.
June 10, 2009
Tim Wakefield picked up his eighth win of the season as the Red Sox defeated the Yankees 6-5 on Wednesday. The knuckleballer scattered eight hits and three walks, while allowing three earned runs in the win. He struck out two on the night.

Our View:One way or another, Wakefield continues to pile up wins. His ERA remains 4.50 and he has walked the third most batters in the AL. Regardless of the wins, do not overvalue Wakefield. It may be a good time to try and sell high on him.
June 4, 2009
After a shaky first two innings on Thursday, Tim Wakefield settled down and went six and two-thirds to earn his seventh win of the season. He gave up three earned runs, struck out three and walked none.

Our View:Wakefield has proven to be a surprisingly reliable fantasy option in 2009. He should by no means be leading your staff, but he is a perfectly respectable roster filler and should remain so throughout the season.
