The Boston Red Sox and knuckleballer Tim Wakefield have agreed to a new two-year contract, according to WEEI.

Our View:The deal is worth $3.5 million up-front in 2010, and $1.5 million in 2011. If he reaches a list of incentives, it could end up being worth $10 million. Wakefield will be 43 on opening day next season.

Updating an earlier report, Tim Wakefield underwent successful surgery on his back today, according to the Providence Journal.

Our View:The procedure repaired a herniated disk in his lower back. The Sox intend to pick up his 2010 club option for $4MM, and the veteran knuckleballer is expected to be ready to participate at the start of spring training.

The Boston Herald reports that knuckleballer Tim Wakefield will undergo back surgery Wednesday morning.

Our View:Wakefield is having a herniated disc in his back repaired, and barring any setbacks, he is expected to make a full recovery by the start of spring training. The Red Sox still plan on picking up his $4 million option for 2010, so it looks like if he's healthy he will once again figure into Boston's rotation plans.

Fanhouse.com is reporting that the Boston Red Sox plan to pick up the contract option on knuckleballer Tim Wakefield for next season, pending the results of his upcoming back surgery. Wakefield is scheduled for the surgery on Wednesday to relieve pressure on his herniated disk.

Our View:As long as the surgery is successful, Wakefield should be back for his 16th season in a Sox's uniform next year. The 43-year old pitcher is at the end of his career, but he showed this season that he can still be more than effective when healthy.

According to MLB.com, Red Sox's knuckleballer Tim Wakefield is scheduled to undergo surgery this week on his lower back. Wakefield would like to return to the team for another season, but he will evaluate his situation after the surgery.

Our View:Wakefield pitched through a ton of pain when the Sox needed him this season, and he would like to come back for at least one more year to take another run at a title. He was an All-Star in the first half of 2009, but the injury turned his dream season into a nightmare.
