The Los Angeles Angels will not start negotiations with slugger Vladimir Guerrero on a long-term contract extension, according to the L.A. Times. "I think both sides have to be in a comfortable range as far as what an extension may or may not entail. We're a ways away," said GM Tony Reagins.

Our View:Guerrero, whose $15 million option the team picked up last week, had knee surgery in October. He is still a very good fantasy option, though it would not be shocking to see his numbers go down a tick, as his batting average and at-bats have decreased for three consecutive seasons.
October 29, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero had left knee surgery on October 10th, according to the Angels' official site.

Our View:Guerrero had his option picked up by the Angels for $15 million yesterday, and the team doesn't seem concerned about his availability to begin the 2009 season.
October 28, 2008
The Angels have exercised Vladimir Guerrero's 2009 option for $15 million, according to Sports Illustrated.

Our View:Guerrero had an off year and his knees gave him some problems, but exercising his option gives the Angels another year to decide whether to sign him long term.
September 30, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero will start Game 1 of the ALDS batting cleanup from the DH spot, according to the Orange County Register. “The thing we’re looking at with Vlad is letting him get comfortable and swing the bat,” manager Mike Scioscia said. “If it’s going to take having him have one less thing to worry about — having to go out there and test his knee by running around in right field making plays — and with the depth we have in the outfield, we’ll let him DH.”

Our View:Though he has been hampered by a sore knee for a long while, Vlad hit a scalding .412 in 68 AB in September proving that even at less than 100 percent he can still be deadly to pitchers.
September 23, 2008
Angels slugger Vladimir Guerrero might have to have surgery on his right knee after the season, according to the L.A. Times.

Our View:Guerrero has played with an aching knee for the past few years, but it has gotten to the point that he may need to have it fixed. If he does have surgery, it is not known how long it may keep him out.
September 22, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero hit his 25th home run of the season on Monday night, the 11th straight season he has reached that plateau according to the Angels Official Website. On the night Vlad went 3-for-4 to push his average up to .302. If he can keep it over .300 the rest of the way he will tie Lou Gehrig for the all-time record of 11-straight .300-25 seasons.

Our View:And you thought Vlad had a down year. Well, 82 runs and 86 RBI certainly are a bit low for this slugger, but he has still produced some pretty solid numbers considering that he has battled injuries for most of the year though he has certainly come a long way from the batter who owned a .249 average on May 31st.
September 17, 2008
The OC Register reports that Vladimir Guerrero missed his fourth consecutive game Wednesday, but Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Guerrero is “making good progress” with his bothersome right knee and is expected to play Friday when the Angels open a series against Guerrero’s favorite batting-practice pitchers, the Texas Rangers.

Our View:Really, Mike? Haven't you told us three days in a row to expect Guerrero back in the lineup "tomorrow." We wouldn't take Mike's word for gold on this one.
September 16, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero had an MRI on his troublesome right knee Monday, which revealed "no new damage to his knee, just a little inflammation," mananger Mike Scioscia said in the Orange County Register.

Our View:Guerrero will play tomorrow or Thursday, Scioscia said.
September 15, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero, who is recovering from right knee irritation, is expected to return to action early this week, according to the LA Times.

Our View:Torii Hunter is expected to return Tuesday, and Guerrero is said to follow shortly after.
September 13, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero will be out until at least Tuesday due to right knee irritation, according to the Orange County Register.

Our View:Manager Mike Sciosca indicated that the ailment flares up from time to time, but added that Guerrero would be in the lineup if it was the World Series. The team has the luxury of resting him, as they have already clinched the AL West.
September 10, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero extended his hitting streak to 10-games on Wednesday as he went 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Angels.

Our View:Vlad is one point from the magical .300 thanks to the streak, but he's really going to have to put on a run to record 100-RBI as he currently has only 83. Why is that significant? In each of his last 10 season with at least 500 AB, Vlad has hit .300 with 100 RBI.
September 1, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero and Torii Hunter each got the night off for the Angels on Sunday to rest, according to the L.A. Times.

Our View:Guerrero had two nights off in a row earlier in the week, as the Angels try to keep everyone healthy for the postseason.
August 27, 2008
Angels' skipper Mike Scioscia gave Vladimir Guerrero a second straight night off Tuesday after the slugger had played for 10 straight days. During the television broadcast of the Angels 5-1 win on Tuesday afternoon Scioscia told the network that Vlad would return to the lineup tonight.

Our View:Guerrero, who is hitting just .143 (7-for-43) against Oakland this year, has shown some signs of slowing down. He's hitting just .287 on the season, well below his career average.
August 26, 2008
For the second night in a row, the Angels have listed their starting lineup for the night and star outfielder Vladimir Guerrero will not be on the field, according to the Orange County Register.

Our View:The OC Register notes no reason for concern or worry of injury, thus we are forced to assume it is another night of rest. If we hear otherwise, we'll let you know.
August 25, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero is not in the Angels lineup on Monday, as Los Angeles faces off against Oakland, according to the Orange County Register.

Our View:Nothing to be worried about, as Vlad is simply getting a night of rest, which the Angels can afford to do. They are 17 games up in the NL West standings on second place Texas.
August 6, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero had a two-run homer and a two-RBI double in the Angels' 9-4 win over Baltimore Wednesday. The homer was Vlad's 20th of the season.

Our View:It is the 11th season in a row that Vlad has reached 20 bombs, though it's taken him a little longer this year to reach that number than in years past.
August 3, 2008
Angels outfielder Vladimir Guerrero is not in the lineup today as his team prepares to face the Yankees, according to the OC Register.

Our View:No need for alarm. It is “just a day off,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia told reporters in the locker room.
August 1, 2008
Angels outfielder Vladimir Guerrero has a very good matchup when he faces off against Yankees starter Sidney Ponson tonight. Guerrero has a .308 batting average against Ponson, but of his eight hits off the portly righty, four have been home runs, and one has been a triple. Guerrero has a .846 slugging percentage against Ponson in his career.

Our View:Be sure to get Guerrero in your fantasy lineup. He very well could add to his 18 homers and 58 RBI tonight.
July 20, 2008
The Red Sox and Angels hooked up for today's nightcap, putting another exciting baseball battle on the field for fans to enjoy with the Angels once again emerging victorious, 5-3. A run-producing error by outfielder Vladimir Guerrero nearly cost them the game, but he did contribute to the cause as well by going 1-for-4 at the dish with his 17th homer of the season. The error on a dropped fly ball by Guerrero allowed Boston outfielder Coco Crisp to score the go-ahead run in the seventh, but Casey Kotchman bailed him out with a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth followed by another stellar performance by closer Francisco Rodriguez to seal the deal.

Our View:Guerrero hit .375 with six homers and 15 RBIs through June but has posted an average of just .310 with four homers and 10 RBIs through July, respectable numbers but far from the furious pace he was on last month.
July 5, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero had two hits and three RBI for the Angels including his 14th home run of the season.

Our View:Vlad has struggled a bit of late, but over his last 18 games he has four home runs and is batting .353 to up his average to .288. Expect the hot hitting to continue.
June 25, 2008
The Associated Press reports that Angels OF Vladimir Guerrero is not in the starting lineup for tonight's game against the Washington Nationals. He left Tuesday's game with flu-like symptoms.

Our View:Guerrero is available to pinch-hit according to manager Mike Scioscia, so this does not seem to be anything to get too worried about.
June 24, 2008
Angels outfielder Vladimir Guerrero has left tonight's battle with Washington in the bottom of the second inning with flu-like symptoms, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View:Guerrero struck out during an eight-pitch at-bat in the top of the second and did not return to right field in the bottom of the frame. He extended his hitting streak to 15 consecutive games in the top of the first with an RBI single.
June 21, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero hit a pair of solo homers in the Angels' 6-2 win over the Phillies Saturday. Vlad is batting .446 with six homers and 14 RBI this month.

Our View:If it wasn't for J.D. Drew, Vlad would be a shoo-in for Player of the Month honors. This is coming on the heels of a month of May in which he batted .219, so Guerrero's owners, are happy to see the slugger step it up at the plate.
June 20, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero had three hits and three RBI with one of the hits going over the fence for his 11th home run of the year.

Our View:Vlad has bosted his average from .250 to .285 the past 10 games thanks to six games of at least two hits in that time. You can only keep a good man down for so long, and Vlad is certainly due for an extended run of production given his early season woes.
June 18, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero is serving as the Angels designated hitter tonight. Reggie Willits is starting in left field, Torii Hunter is in center and Gary Matthews Jr. is in right field.

Our View:Guerrero is the usual right fielder with Matthews serving as the designated hitter. It never hurts to give Vlad a day off from the field, but he'll tell you he's not as good a hitter when serving as the DH.
June 16, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero is hitting .429 in 10 games in June with three home runs and seven RBI after a dismal May (.219), according to MLB.com. However, the rest of his teammates have really struggled in June with Garrett Anderson (.140), Casey Kotchman (.222) and Torii Hunter (.212) failing to do much of anything.

Our View:Chone Figgins and Howie Kendrick are now back in the fold, so perhaps with everyone back in the roles they were expected to fill this year, the results will turn around soon.
June 11, 2008
The reports of Vladimir Guerrero's demise may have been warranted after early struggles this season, but he's starting to heat up and get back into form, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View:Guerrero hit a homer in the eighth today, his third dinger in four games. Since the start of June, Guerrero has gone 11-for-24 at the plate, raising his average from .246 to .269.
June 11, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero is starting to show signs of wear and tear, according to ESPN.com's Buster Olney. Guerrero has always walked around like an old man but still ripped the ball once he got up to the plate. However, Olney spoke to a talent evaluator who believes Vlad doesn't look the same this year and appears to now lack the mobility to hit pitches up in the zone and pitches away.

Our View:Guerrero, a career .325 hitter entering this season, is batting just .268 so far this year. He's also on pace for just 24 homers and 89 RBI, which would both easily be career lows for Vlad over a full season. It might be a good time to deal the 32-year-old in keeper leagues.
June 10, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero went 2-for-4 with a homer, two runs, and two RBI in Tuesday's win over the Rays. The veteran outfielder is 9-for-19 with two homers and six RBI over the last five games.

Our View:Fantasy owners continue to wait for Vlad to go on a major tear. We're hoping this recent work is the start of something great.
June 8, 2008
Angels designated hitter Vladimir Guerrero worked through an interesting day at the plate today as LA fell 7-6 to Oakland in 12 innings. Guerrero went 1-for-5 with one walk, two strikeouts, and his eighth home run of the season to total two RBIs on the day, stranding five runners on base along the way.

Our View:After hitting just .219 through May, it appeared Vlad was on the way back, going 3-for-6 in his first two games of the month. He was slowed by a hyperflexed knee and missed a few games, but going 1-for-7 in his last two games is a bit disappointing.
June 7, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero's MRI on his right knee confirmed the initial diagnosis of a hyperflexion suffered Sunday, according to the LA Daily News. He was back in the Angels' lineup at DH Friday after missing the three-game set in Seattle. Manager Mike Scioscia said he could stay at DH for a day or two "to work him back into the lineup."

Our View:This is good news, as it looks like he has avoided a trip to the DL.
June 4, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero has left the Angels in Seattle to be examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum in Southern California, according to the Orange County Register. Guerrero has not played since suffering a hyperflexion of his right knee Sunday.

Our View:He hasn't underwent an MRI yet, and Manager Mike Sciosca plans to have him available for this weekend, but added that he wouldn't be surprised if he landed on the DL.
June 4, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero missed his second consecutive game with hyperflexion in his right knee, according to the AP. Vlad was injured when he slid into a base Sunday. Manager Mike Scioscia said Guerrero was "much better" and may return to the lineup Wednesday. If Vlad's not back Wednesday, he'll definitely be back Friday after the team's off day Thursday, Scioscia said.

Our View:Vlad's batting average has tumbled to .249, so perhaps a few days off will do him some good.
June 3, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero is nursing a sore right knee, but hopes to return to the Angels' lineup tonight, especially as they face Seattle lefty Erik Bedard, according to MLB.com. Guerrero is 6-for-13 (.462) with a homer and three RBI over his career against the former Orioles' ace.

Our View:Vlad is only hitting .249 with seven homers and 28 RBI this season, and hopefully he can play tonight. If he gets the green light, he is worth starting against Bedard.
June 2, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero is out of the lineup on Monday night due to a sore right knee, the AP reports. Manager Mike Scioscia says the injury is not serious, and Guerrero could return on Tuesday.

Our View:The bad news continues to pile up for Vlad. He's having a rough season, and we're trying to be patient. It's probably not a bad time to try and buy low.
May 29, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero was given his second game off in four days on Wednesday, and may be regressing again, according to the LA Times. He hit three home runs last week and appeared as if he was going to get on track, but he struck out in the first inning on Tuesday on an outside ball in the dirt and had another strikeout while looking at a full-count slider with two on to end the sixth inning.

Our View:The disappointment continues for fantasy owners who took Guerrero high on draft day. He is only hitting .258 for the season with seven homers and 28 RBI over 51 games.
May 28, 2008
The Angels gave Vladimir Guerrero the night off Wednesday. With Thursday's off day, Vlad will have two days off in a row. "We just wanted to let him catch his breath because he's really been grinding it," manager Mike Scioscia said on MLB.com. "We'll just give him two days just to mentally recharge."

Our View:Vlad has put together just a .258-7-28 line thus far, though he does have three dingers in the last week. Don't worry about him. His digits will be there in the end.
May 21, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero's power has been pretty absent this year, but he provided his owners with a pair of dingers on Wednesday. Vlad hit a solo shot in the first and followed it up with a three-run shot in the third.

Our View:Vlad now has six bombs on the year - a low total for him, but at least he's creeping closer to where he should be.
May 16, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero had two hits and a run scored for the Angels as he is trying to start the long road back to excellence.

Our View:Vlad is hitting just .269 with a scant four home runs on the season, but we all know bad Vlad can go nuts and hit .400 for a month. Let's just hope that streak starts soon as this has been a pretty extensive cold period for the slugger.
May 13, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero hit a home run and knocked in four runs on Monday night with a 3-run home run, his first long ball in 15 games, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Bad Vlad is hitting a poor .273 with just four home runs and 20 RBI on the season, which only means that a Lance Berkman-esque hot streak is likely around the corner for Vlad who certainly isn't done being a .300 hitting, 100 RBI hitter.
May 7, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero showed signs of breaking out of a 10-day slump in which his average fell 39 points, notes the LA Times. In Tuesday's win over the Royals, the right-handed hitter doubled and tripled. "I think No. 27 might be finding his way back," reliever Scot Shields said.

Our View:Since collecting his 2,000th hit in Detroit on April 26, Guerrero had managed just four singles in 26 at-bats -- a .154 average -- before he tripled off the center-field wall in the first inning Tuesday.
May 6, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero went 2-for-4 with a double, triple, two runs, and a walk against the Royals on Tuesday.

Our View:Vlad missed some RBI opportunities on Tuesday night, but we're still happy to see the multi-hit outing. Hopefully he can continue to bury his mini-slump as this week rolls along.
May 6, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero is not worried about his recent 2-for-22 slump. "You guys are making way too much of it. I'm not concerned," he tells MLB.com. Guerrero's average hasn't been over .300 since April 11.

Our View:Vlad owns a career .323 average and has hit over .300 in every major league season save for his 5-for-27 cup of coffee in 1996. It'll take a lot more than a 22 at-bat slump for Guerrero or us to worry.
May 4, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero went 1-for-4 against the Orioles on Sunday and was able to snap a 0-for-15 streak. His average is down to .256.

Our View:We're not at all worried about Vlad. Yeah, he had one bad week. So what?
April 19, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero had two hits on Saturday night though he failed to produce a run in the loss to the Mariners.

Our View:Vlad has really started slow hitting just .282 and it certainly doesn't help that he has been bothered by a few bumps and bruises. All along Vlad has said that he doesn't like the DH role, and the numbers back him up as he is hitting just .143 as the DH and .316 as the right fielder.
April 18, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero sat out on Thursday due to a swollen left index finger. "I got hit by a pitch in Class A in 1996, and since then, when I start taking a lot of swings, at some point in the year it swells up," he informs the Los Angeles Times. Juan Rivera started in his place. Guerrero expects to return on Friday.

Our View:Fantasy owners can expect Vlad to be back on Friday, as he typically doesn't miss much time.
April 11, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero has fared well against Felx Hernandez, tonight's opposing pitcher for Seattle, according to MLB.com. Over his career against the Mariners' hurler, Vlad is hitting 10-for-24. He is off to a good start with a .300 average over 40 at-bats, and should once again have the upper hand in this match-up.
April 9, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero is warming up after a slow start. Guerrero hit his second home run in as many games on Wednesday as the Angels put a 9-5 beat down on the Indians. Vlad exits today's game hitting .300 with two home runs and eight RBI on the young season.
March 23, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero continues to progress in his recovery from a sore right knee but he did not take batting practice on Saturday, according to the LA Times. There doesn't seem to be anything to worry about.
March 21, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero was taken out of Thursday's game in the third inning due to stiffness in his right knee, according to MLB.com. Manager Mike Scioscia isn't worried, though. "We'll give him a day, and he'll be fine," Scioscia said. "He felt a little stiff in the knee, and we got him out of there." Unless Vlad suffers some sort of setback, this doesn't appear to be anything to worry about.
March 19, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero blasted a grand slam against Oakland, and now has three home runs and 13 RBI for the spring, with a .282 average. His elbow will remain a concern, but you have to like the way he is hitting the ball so far this spring.
February 19, 2008
Vladimir Guerrero's balky elbow, which limited him to DH duties down the stretch and in the playoffs, is still bothering him. Still, Vlad wants to play in the outfield and not DH this year. "No, no," Guerrero said to the Orange County Register. "I'm a right fielder." However, it sounds as if manager Mike Scioscia will use Vlad some in the DH spot whether he likes it or not. "I think Vlad understands the luxury we have that if he comes in and his legs are a little stiff he's still going to get his at-bats and we're going to DH him," the manager said. "We're going to take advantage of that. Nobody's talking about an every-day DH position with him... We'll work through it. It's not going to be a negative." If you are wavering back and forth between Vlad and someone else in your draft, this news is probably enough to convince you to go with the other guy. However, we don't expect this to be a major issue.
