June 10, 2008 The Mets designated Raul Casanova for assignment on Tuesday, MLB.com reports. Our View:The catcher's father died about a week ago, so the Mets are showing a lot of heart here. Casanova passed through waivers in May and will likely accept his assignment this time. |

The team recalled catcher Robinson Cancel from Triple-A New Orleans to cover his spot on the roster. Casanova's father has passed away. May 10, 2008 Raul Casanova has been designated for assignment, according to the NY Daily News. He will report to Triple-A New Orleans if he isn't claimed off waivers by another team. Ramon Castro was activated following his bout with a hamstring injury, and Casanova was seen as expendable to make room on the roster. Our View:Casanova did a solid job while filling in when needed with the Mets, as he hit .283 over 46 at-bats, with one homer and six RBI, with five runs scored. He will have to wait for another chance to play in the big leagues. |
