The Mets designated Raul Casanova for assignment on Tuesday, MLB.com reports.

Our View:The catcher's father died about a week ago, so the Mets are showing a lot of heart here. Casanova passed through waivers in May and will likely accept his assignment this time.

Raul Casanova has been placed on the bereavement list on Wednesday, according to CBSsports.com. The team recalled catcher Robinson Cancel from Triple-A New Orleans to cover his spot on the roster. Casanova's father has passed away.

Our View:Casanova could be out until the series against Arizona, which starts June 10. The backup catcher holds no fantasy value.

Raul Casanova has been designated for assignment, according to the NY Daily News. He will report to Triple-A New Orleans if he isn't claimed off waivers by another team. Ramon Castro was activated following his bout with a hamstring injury, and Casanova was seen as expendable to make room on the roster.

Our View:Casanova did a solid job while filling in when needed with the Mets, as he hit .283 over 46 at-bats, with one homer and six RBI, with five runs scored. He will have to wait for another chance to play in the big leagues.

Our View:Brian Schneider is obviously the teams starter at catcher, but Casanova has done a great job filling in when needed, and today was a great example of that.

Our View:The game will be the twelfth that Casanova has played in this year. The backup catcher is hitting eighth in the batting order against the Dodgers right-hander Brad Penny.
