Phil Nevin left Saturday's game with a bruised left wrist, according to the AP. X-rays were negative and he's considered day-to-day.

The Twins acquired Phil Nevin from the Cubs on Thursday for a player to be named, according to the AP. Since he was traded before Thursday's deadline, he will be eligible for their playoff roster. He should get a shot at pushing Rondell White aside as the regular DH.

The Chicago Tribune speculates that the Cubs may look to deal Phil Nevin to an American League team in need of a designated hitter. With Derrek Lee back in action, the Cubs don't really need Nevin for the long term.

Despite all the talk that the Cubs would not used Phil Nevin in the outfield, Nevin got the start in left field on Monday, according to the official team website. It was Nevin's first appearance in the OF since 2003. "We'll see how he plays in left," said Baker of Nevin. "That ball finds people. You can't hide on the baseball field. That ball will find you."

Cubs manager Dusty Baker recently said he had no plans to use Phil Nevin in the outfield, but he appeared to be reconsidering on Sunday, according to the Daily Souththown. "It's a possibility," Baker said. "He's been out there taking some fly balls. There is a distinct possibility. We need his bat in the lineup. I might play him out there until he shows he can't do it."

When Derrek Lee returns to action, likely Monday, Phil Nevin will move to a bench role, likely backing up first, third and catcher, according to the Daily Southtown. Although manager Dusty Baker would like to keep Nevin's power in the lineup, he's not ready to use the veteran as a starter in the outfield. "We all know his speed is limited," Baker said. "The ball finds whoever is on that field sooner or later."

With Michael Barrett's 10-game suspension behing upheld on Monday, Phil Nevin will serve as the Cubs backup catcher, according to the AP. Henry Blanco will start in Barrett's place.

The Cubs acquired Phil Nevin from the Rangers on Wednesday in exchange for Jerry Hairston Jr., according to the AP. The Rangers also included cash in the deal. Nevin should see some action at first base until Derrek Lee returns from the DL. He hit .216 with nine homers and 31 RBI for the Rangers.

Having batted a dismal .145 for the month of May, Phil Nevin will be relegated to part-time duty, according to the Rangers website. Texas called up Jason Botts to replace Nevin as the starting designated hitter.

Phil Nevin probably will be limited to pinch-hitting duties this weekend in Houston, according to the Dallas Morning News. He is hitting just .171 (13-for-76) without a homer over the last 19 games.

Phil Nevin is in line for a lot more playing time this season now that the Rangers have traded David Dellucci. Dellucci probably would have taken some of Nevin's time at DH.
