Tomas Perez has been designated for assignment, according to the Houston Chronicle. The team did the move to make room for pitcher Jack Cassel, who had been called up to start against the Reds today in place of the injured Wandy Rodriguez.

Our View:Perez had two hits over 10 brief at-bats, with two strikeouts, and he held no fantasy value prior to his designation.

Tomas Perez is filling in at second base for the time being, according to the Houston Chronicle. Geof Blum has been moved over to third base to cover for the injured Ty Wigginton, and Lance Berkman is dealing with a neck sprain.

The Cubs reached a minor league deal with Tomas Perez on Friday, according to the AP. Perez, who hit .212 in 241 at-bats in 2006, will compete for a utility role with the Cubs in spring training.
