Player Notes
May 9, 2008
C.C. Sabathia struck out nine over seven innings in a 6-1 win over Toronto. The reigning AL Cy Young winner gave up six hits, walked two and won for the first time in five decisions at home this season.

Our View:Sabathia has officially turned it around after a miserable start. With Friday's win, C.C. lowered his ERA to 6.55.

C.C. Sabathia will be looking for his second win of the season when the Indians host the Blue Jays tonight, according to MLB.com. The former Cy Young Award winner is 1-5 with a 7.51 ERA and 1.77 WHIP over 38.1 innings, with 18 walks and 37 strikeouts. He has already allowed six home runs.

Our View:Sabathia has allowed nine runs in two of his seven starts this season, but has only allowed a total of five runs (and four walks) over his last three outings.
May 3, 2008
C.C. Sabathia fell to 1-5 in Saturday's 4-2 loss to Kansas City. He surrendered four runs on 10 hits over 6.1 innings, with one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View:He held a 7.88 ERA and 1.78 WHIP heading into today's game, and his fifth loss in seven starts has fantasy owners worried.

Cleveland ace C.C. Sabathia tried his best to pick up his Indians and produce a win today, but the offensive support failed to show as dueling starter Chien-Ming Wang dominated the Indians' batting order, resulting in a devastating 1-0 loss for Sabathia. Sabathia pitched eight full innings, striking out eight and walking just one to allow one run on four hits.

Our View:78 of Sabathia's 111 pitches counted as strikes, but the end result is his worrisome fourth loss with an ERA of 7.87.

The Cleveland Indians may be close to reaching a new contract agreement with ace C.C. Sabathia , according to MLBTradeRumors.com. The site notes the team's ability to enjoy a financial windfall from the creation of a new local television network, SportsTime Ohio, as the reason to believe the team is going to make a strong push to get Sabathia signed.

Our View:The team has committed $132 million to roster payroll between now and 2014, and another $61.5 million has yet to be dedicated based on contract options to be exercised or declined. Sources close to team GM Mark Shapiro have suggested the goal of signing both Sabathia and 1B Ryan Garko remain the focus of their financial plans looking forward. Rumors like this can often turn on a moment depending on negotiations and the whims of ownership, but keep Sabathia should be a top priority. We will update as news becomes available.
