Report: Bobby Ryan back on trade market 06-19-2012
Bobby Ryan LW ANA
Bobby Ryan is reportedly available again for trade, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie.

Bob McKenzie on Twitter
He was involved in several trade rumors throughout the 2011-12 campaign, but was removed from talks after Bruce Boudreau took over the team's head coaching duties. It doesn't mean that Ryan will be moved this time either, but it does add some interesting speculation going into the NHL draft this weekend.
George Parros likely heading for free agency 06-19-2012
George Parros RW FLA
George Parros is slated to hit unrestricted free agency on July 1.

Orange County Register
The 32-year-old enforcer tallied four points and 85 penalty minutes in 46 games last season, but it doesn't look like he'll be back with Anaheim. "Met with him on Friday," Ducks GM Bob Murray said. "I've got a strong feeling he's going to go to free agency and take a peek. We offered him a contract. I think he's going to go to free agency, which is his right."
Blues want to add another defenseman 06-19-2012
Alex Pietrangelo D STL
The St. Louis Blues will enter the off-season on the hunt for a veteran defenseman to possibly pair with Alex Pietrangelo.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch
"We want to find a top-four defenseman," Blues GM Doug Armstrong said. "If we could add one player that we feel really comfortable about being in the four, then we really feel good about our group." Armstrong said that the team has no issue switching Pietrangelo to the left side to play alongside Kevin Shattenkirk.
Stars unsure about qualifying Tom Wandell 06-19-2012
Mark Fistric D EDM
The Dallas Stars have not reached a decision on whether or not to tender a qualifying offer to restricted free agent Tom Wandell.

Dallas Morning News
The team has already announced offers to eight players, including Jamie Benn, Philip Larsen, Mark Fistric, Richard Bachman, but they will not retain the services of Angelo Esposito, Michael Neal, Mikhail Stefanovich and Jake Hauswirth. Wandell's offer would be just $892,500 so it wouldn't break the bank, but he hasn't made much of an impact at the NHL level during his career with the Stars. He had six goals and nine assists in 72 games last season, while averaging just 9:44 of ice time.
Jordan Staal doesn't want out of Pittsburgh 06-19-2012
Jordan Staal C CAR
Jordan Staal has not requested a trade out of Pittsburgh and GM Ray Shero expects to speak with the center's agent, Paul Krepelka, at the NHL draft this weekend.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Shero wants to re-sign Staal to a contract extension since he can become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2012-13 campaign. There have been plenty of trade rumors circulating Staal already, but it doesn't look like either side wants to tread down that path right now.
Daniel Alfredsson still undecided on future 06-19-2012
Daniel Alfredsson RW OTT
Daniel Alfredsson is still undecided about his future and a decision is probably a few weeks away from happening.

Sportsnet.ca
"I believe in a few weeks, I'll be there," he said. "I don't know if subconsciously I just tried to push the decision or not, but as of right now, I can't say I'm leaning one way or the other." He is slated to meet with GM Bryan Murray and head coach Paul MacLean this week, as all three will attend the NHL Awards on Wednesday night. Alfredsson said that a throat virus set him back a bit because he wants to test where his training and motivation are before he makes his intentions known.
Report: Teemu Selanne is eying another season 06-19-2012
Teemu Selanne RW ANA
A report out of Finland is stating that Teemu Selanne will be back with the Anaheim Ducks for another season in 2012-13.

Orange County Register
Finnish media outlet, Veikkaaja, says that Selanne wants to be back with the Ducks and barring an injury setback, he will sign on for another tour of duty in the NHL. The 41-year-old winger is presently back in Finland, with his family, and he doesn't have any health issues and is working out. Anaheim hasn't heard anything yet though and Selanne is still expected to make his decision known by July 1.
Josh Harding re-signs with Minnesota 06-19-2012
Josh Harding G MIN
Josh Harding has agreed to terms on a three-year, $5.7 million contract to stay in Minnesota.

Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune
He expressed an interest to remain with the Wild if he could get a multi-year contract and that's exactly what the potential unrestricted free agent received. Harding played in 34 games with Minnesota this past season, while posting a 13-12-4 record with a .917 save percentage and a 2.62 goals-against average. He has struggled with injuries and consistency in his career, but can be a solid backup when he's healthy.
KHL is a threat for RFA Ondrej Pavelec 06-19-2012
Ondrej Pavelec G WPG
According to TSN's Darren Dreger, the KHL is in a position to snatch up Winnipeg goaltender Ondrej Pavelec if the Jets can't work out a contract with the pending restricted free agent.

Darren Dreger on Twitter
Pavelec is reportedly seeking a multi-year deal at $4 million or higher per year. If he doesn't get that then it is likely he heads overseas. Winnipeg would probably be better off agreeing to those terms rather being forced to deal with the difficult scenario of a trade or a Russian defection.
Samuel Pahlsson will play for Modo in SEL 06-19-2012
Samuel Pahlsson C VAN
Samuel Pahlsson agreed to a contract on Monday to play for Modo of the Swedish Elite League next season.

Vancouver Sun

Coyotes want Ray Whitney back on their terms 06-19-2012
Ray Whitney LW DAL
The Phoenix Coyotes would like to have Ray Whitney back in the fold next season, but they appear to be hesitant on giving the 40-year-old winger a multi-year term.

Arizona Republic/Phoenix Gazette
"Would we re-sign him? Absolutely, we'd re-sign him without question," Phoenix GM Don Maloney said. "Would we sign him for more than one year? Then we'd have to debate. What number would we sign him for? Then there's probably some debate." Whitney enjoyed a very productive 2011-12 campaign with 24 goals and 77 points in 82 games. If the price and term is right then the Coyotes will welcome him back; otherwise he might be permitted to test the waters on July 1.

Shane Doan RW PHO
Shane Doan is hoping to sign a new contract with the Phoenix Coyotes prior to the start of free agency.

Arizona Republic/Phoenix Gazette
He said he would listen to other teams if he becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1, but he would like to stay with Phoenix. Coyotes GM Don Maloney is currently negotiating what is believed to be a multi-year deal and he is optimistic about the talks. "My dealings with Shane and his representatives are very encouraging, very positive," he said. "We're finding common ground."
Oilers sign Lennart Petrell to one-year deal 06-19-2012
Jimmy Bonneau RW MON
Lennart Petrell has signed a one-year deal with the Edmonton Oilers.

Edmonton Journal
He recorded 122 hits, which led all forwards on the team, and nine points in 60 games with the Oilers last season after coming to North America from the Finnish Elite League. He mostly played on the fourth line and worked on the penalty kill. Petrell doesn't have much offensive upside, which makes him less attractive from a fantasy perspective, but he can be a serviceable player at the NHL level.
Leafs may be out of Rick Nash sweeps 06-19-2012
Rick Nash LW NYR
Rick Nash appears to be unlikely to end up in Toronto, according to Damien Cox of the Toronto Star.

Toronto Star
He says that the Leafs believe that they are not on the winger's short list anymore and the club has apparently moved on to seeking other trade possibilities with other players. Several teams are interested in Nash's services and this report doesn't mean that Toronto is completely out of the picture.
Wings give Darren Helm a 4-year extension 06-19-2012
Darren Helm C DET
Darren Helm has inked a four-year contract worth $8.5 million with the Detroit Red Wings.

Detroit News
In 68 games with Detroit in 2011-12, he generated nine goals and 17 assists. Helm would've been eligible to be a restricted free agent in July. His regular season was cut short by a sprained knee and he sustained a torn left forearm tendon in Game 1 of the opening round against Nashville. However, he is expected to fine for training camp.
Blues want to add 'top-four' defenseman 06-19-2012
Barret Jackman D STL
The Blues are in the market for a "top-four" defenseman, according to general manager Doug Armstrong.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Even with the promising mix that includes the recently re-signed Barret Jackson, St. Louis wants another established rearguard. Look for Armstrong to gauge the trade waters on draft weekend, and if nothing materializes, target a free agent come July 1. "We want to find a top-four defenseman," Armstrong said. "If we could add one player that we feel really comfortable about being in the four, then we really feel good about our group."
Brent Burns had sports hernia surgery 06-19-2012

San Jose Mercury News

Pekka Rinne's stats don't tell whole story 06-19-2012
Pekka Rinne G NAS
For the second straight year, Pekka Rinne is a Vezina Trophy finalist, but this year may have been even more impressive than last.

The Nashville Tennessean
Rinne's stats (league-leading 43 wins, 2.39 goals-against average and .923 save percentage) may not be as good as they were last season and they might not match up with Jonathan Quick's or Henrik Lundqvist's, but he kept a young, inconsistent squad in the thick of things throughout the season. "He works hard every game. Even though he's playing every game, he doesn't want days off. We have to ask him to take days off," general manager David Poile said. "If you want to put your money somewhere, was there a better place to put it than Pekka? So he's exactly what the franchise ordered."
Josh Harding wants multiyear deal, No. 1 job 06-19-2012
Josh Harding G MIN
Josh Harding's preference would be to stay in Minnesota, and he'd like to do so on a multiyear contract.

Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune
The 28-year-old is slated to be an unrestricted free agent July 1, and if he is signed would be the likely backup to 35-year-old Niklas Backstrom for at least one more year. "A one-year deal right now doesn't make really much sense for us," Harding said. "That's what we're having talks with [GM Chuck Fletcher] about, and we'll make the best decision for both of us. But it's a business, too, and I want to be a No. 1." Fletcher is optimistic he can get something completed. Harding went 13-12-4 with a 2.62 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage this past season.
Capitals own plenty of picks at 2012 draft 06-19-2012
Alexander Ovechkin LW WAS
The Washington Capitals own a league-high 11 selections going into the 2012 NHL Entry Draft on Friday.

Washington Post
The Caps have two picks in the first round at 11th and 16th overall. This flexibility could either help the club stockpile their cupboard with prospects or make trades to help fill holes in their roster. "The plan is right now to make picks; we'll see what develops," GM George McPhee said. "This draft, I think, is stronger than last year's draft. . . . That's the way we're looking at things right now. We'll see how things develop as things move forward. You just never know what's going to develop."
Ralph Krueger a favorite to be Oilers coach 06-19-2012
Brendon Nash D MON
The Edmonton Journal's Jim Matheson says that associate coach Ralph Krueger is the odds-on favorite to be the Oilers' next head coach.

The Edmonton Journal
Matheson calls the odds 2-1, with Brent Sutter (4-1) and Jon Cooper a 10-1 favorite. He writes: "Krueger has never been an NHL head man, but he's a world-ranked coach with his long standing with the Swiss national team. His plus is he knows the Oiler players better than anybody else."
Anders Lindback ready to compete for top job 06-19-2012
Gord Baldwin D CAL
Anders Lindback will enter training camp with the goal of being Tampa Bay's starting goaltender, but he isn't taking anything for granted.

St. Petersburg Times
"I haven't been a starter in the NHL, so I can't just anticipate I'm just going to come in and play," he said. "I've got to work hard and prove myself. My goal is I want to win and play games and win the (Stanley) Cup. That's why I play." Lindback has 38 games of NHL experience under his belt in the last two seasons with Nashville, but he does have plenty of upside and he'll get a great opportunity to be the man with the Lightning.
Panthers: 'Wild card' for Roberto Luongo? 06-19-2012
Roberto Luongo G VAN
Don't count out the Panthers as suitors for Roberto Luongo.

USA Today
USA Today's Kevin Allen calls Florida a "wild card." Even though they are probably satisfied with Jose Theodore and prospect Jacob Markstrom, Luongo was liked when he played with the Panthers and was successful there. The problem would be his $6.7 million salary. Allen calls the Leafs a potential fit, and the Blue Jackets would be interested, but Luongo may not waive his no-trade clause to go there.
C. Pronger helps Flyers in different capacity 06-19-2012
Chris Pronger D PHI
Chris Pronger is currently helping out the Flyers organization by watching videos of players and attending scouting meetings.

Philadelphia Inquirer & Daily News
Pronger is still battling headaches and is having "good days and bad days," according to Flyers GM Paul Holmgren. It's unclear if he will be able to play at all next season because of post-concussion syndrome.
James van Riemsdyk should be fine soon 06-19-2012
James van Riemsdyk LW TOR
Philadelphia GM Paul Holmgren believes that James van Riemsdyk (hip) would be able to play if the team had games to play next week.

Philadelphia Inquirer & Daily News
It was originally thought that he would need surgery on his right hip, but further evaluations by doctors indicated that he would be fine without a procedure and he is already progressing. "We're just going to move forward and deal with it," Holmgren said. "I don't have a crystal ball. Obviously, he's got work to do getting over issues, but I think if we had to play next week, he'd be able to play. He's got the summer to get his strength up and get up to speed." Van Riemsdyk skated in just 43 games in 2011-12 because of a broken foot, a concussion, a strained oblique and a strained rib, so he ended up with a lackluster 11 goals and 13 assists. He still has plenty of promise though and could live up to those expectations with a healthier campaign next year.
GM:Norris won't change price for E. Karlsson 06-19-2012
Team Goalie PHO TG PHO
Ottawa GM Bryan Murry doesn't believe that Erik Karlsson's price will change if he emerges from Wednesday's NHL Awards with the Norris Trophy.

Ottawa Citizen
"We're cheering like crazy for him to win," said Murray. "It's not going to change one penny. People have suggested it (will), but we all know where we are with this guy. I've made no secret of it with Erik and his agents. We all know this is a good hockey player and this is a guy we want in our fold for a number of years. We think he is, and hopefully we're right, on the upswing of his career and he should be an exciting player for Ottawa fans to watch for a lot of years." Murray and Karlsson's agent, Craig Oster, are slated to engage in face-to-face talks this week.
Max Pacioretty working on not overworking 06-19-2012
Max Pacioretty LW MON
Max Pacioretty is trying to not overtrain during this summer after he worked hard a year ago to recover from a fractured vertebra and a concussion.

Montreal Gazette
"I'm having my parents hide my hockey bag for a bit," he said with a laugh. "I've got a charity game the middle of July and I think that's when I'm going to pull the bag out and dust it off. I'll try to skate as much as possible from that date forward. But not until then." Pacioretty was scheduled to fly into Las Vegas on Monday to prepare for an appearance at the NHL Awards, where is nominated for and is likely the favorite for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy. He rebounded tremendously in 2011-12 after a scary injury to lead the Canadiens with 65 points (33 goals, 32 assists) in 79 games.
