Bears workout running backs Ringer & Tanner 04-07-2014
Javon Ringer RB TEN
Bears worked out former Titans RB Javon Ringer and former Cowboys RB Phillip Tanner.

Brad Biggs on Twitter
These names confirm how desperate the Bears are for depth behind Matt Forte. Second-year Michael Ford is the only other tailback on Chicago's roster, and he has zero NFL carries to his name. Even if signed, neither Ringer or Tanner will offer much from a fantasy perspective. Ringer did not play in 2013 and has struggled with injuries in his five-year career, and Tanner sports a 2.7 yards-per-carry average over 56 career carries.
Williams admits he needs to 'grow up' 04-07-2014
Mike Williams WR BUF
At his introductory press conference, new Bills WR Mike Williams admitted he needed to "grow up a little more."

The Tampa Tribune
Williams departure from Tampa Bay was preceded by -- and perhaps caused by -- two off-field incidents in a span of four months. Despite his relative success in the NFL, Williams does not possess the super talent necessary for teams to put up with the off-field headaches. If he can stay on the straight and narrow, Williams will provide the Bills a much needed redzone threat.
Panthers add Jason Avant on one-year deal 04-07-2014
Jason Avant WR CAR
Panthers signed Jason Avant, formerly of the Eagles, to a one-year deal. Avant will pair with the newly acquired Jerricho Cotchery to form one of the most underwhelming starting wideout duos in the league. With every impact free agent wide receiver signed, the Panthers are simply looking for cheap veterans to complement the playmakers they will likely draft this May. Avant caught 38 passes for 447 yards and two touchdowns with the Eagles last season.
Panthers still talking with Thomas DeCoud 04-07-2014
Thomas DeCoud S CAR
Free agent FS Thomas DeCoud is still negotiating with the Panthers, but a deal is not imminent.

Joe Person on Twitter
DeCoud has found a soft market since getting dumped by the Falcons in early March, so he may be using the Panthers' interest to press the issue with other safety needy teams. Carolina is after bargain depth to shore up a safety corps led by the aging Roman Harper and Charles Godfrey, who is coming off an Achilles' tear last season.
Report: Jets like idea of CJ2K/Ivory tandem 04-07-2014
Chris Johnson RB NYJ
The New York Daily News reports the Jets "really like" the idea of pairing free agent Chris Johnson with Chris Ivory, and that a potential deal will "come down to money."

Manish Mehta on Twitter
According to reporter Manish Mehta, the Jets have no concerns about Johnson's work ethic. Johnson/Ivory would immediately become one of the league's best thunder and lightning duos, while CJ?K could operate as an every-down back were the injury-prone Ivory to miss time. Word has yet to leak of a Johnson visit to the Big Apple, but it's sounding like a good bet.
Bears host TE Mulligan, QB Weber for visits 04-07-2014
Matthew Mulligan TE CHI
Free agents Matthew Mulligan and Adam Weber worked out for the Bears on Monday.

Brad Biggs on Twitter
CBS' Jason La Canfora reported Weber's visit. A blocker, Mulligan appeared in 15 games for the Patriots last season. A former undrafted free agent, Weber was waived by the Bucs last August.
Titans part ways with DE Adewale Ojomo 04-07-2014
Adewale Ojomo DE DAL
Titans waived DE Adewale Ojomo. The move comes two weeks after Ojomo was arrested for allegedly soliciting a prostitute. A third-year undrafted free agent, Ojomo's lone career appearance came in 2012 for the Giants.
Williams expects to be 100 percent for OTAs 04-07-2014
Mike Williams WR BUF
Mike Williams (hamstring, thigh) expects to be 100 percent for the Bills' offseason program.

buffalobills.com
"I'm going to be ready for all the offseason workouts and things like that," Williams assured. "So I'll be 100 percent straight for that." Williams missed the second half of 2013 with a torn hamstring, and was stabbed in the thigh last month.
Free agent Josh Freeman visiting the Bears 04-07-2014
Josh Freeman QB NYG
Free agent Josh Freeman visited the Bears on Monday.

Jason La Canfora on Twitter
It's Freeman's first-known visit of free agency. Although the Bears have Jay Cutler locked up as their franchise quarterback, it would be an ideal landing spot for Freeman. He'd get to work with quarterback-whisperer Marc Trestman, and have a good shot at making starts behind an injury-prone Cutler. It's surprising that it's taken Freeman this long to make a visit, but speaks to how worrisome his play was last season.
Daniels visited Pats before Ravens signing 04-07-2014
Owen Daniels TE BAL
Owen Daniels visited the Patriots before signing with the Ravens.

ESPN Boston
We knew Daniels visited the Packers and Redskins before signing with Baltimore, but word of a New England jaunt never leaked. The Pats have a rehabbing Rob Gronkowski (knee) at tight end, but a vacancy at the "move" spot Aaron Hernandez used to play. The Pats could address tight end in the draft.
Saints match Falcons' offer sheet for S Bush 04-07-2014
Rafael Bush S NO
Saints re-signed S Rafael Bush to a two-year, $4.5 million contract. Bush was a restricted free agent. The offer was actually Atlanta's, but the Saints decided to match. Bush likely would have been a starter in Atlanta, but returns as the Saints' No. 3 safety behind Jairus Byrd and Kenny Vaccaro. Bush was solid in a similar role last season, making 42 tackles while excelling in coverage. He played 520 snaps. The Saints aren't resting on their defensive laurels after Rob Ryan resuscitated a moribund unit in 2013.
Texans snag Andre Brown with 1-year contract 04-07-2014
Andre Brown RB HOU
Texans agreed to terms with RB Andre Brown, formerly of the Giants, on a one-year contract.

John McClain on Twitter
The Texans have their Ben Tate replacement. Older than Tate and even more injury prone, Brown is not an upgrade behind Arian Foster, but was easily the second-best back left on the market behind Chris Johnson. Brown started the final eight games for the Giants last season, but averaged only 3.53 yards per carry. For his career, the 27-year-old Brown owns a 4.09 YPC. Brown will begin training camp as the clear No. 2 on the depth chart, but won't be miles ahead of Dennis Johnson and Jonathan Grimes.
Jets have no concerns about CJ?K's work ethic 04-07-2014
Chris Johnson RB NYJ
The New York Daily News reports the Jets have no concerns about free agent Chris Johnson's work ethic.

Manish Mehta on Twitter
The Jets have been considered one of Johnson's potential suitors since before his release, but have yet to be officially linked to the ex-Titan. Word of potential visits has yet to leak, but CJ?K is reportedly hoping to find his new team by the middle of the week. With Johnson's track record well known and the free-agent barrel scraped bare, it shouldn't take long for him to sign.
Running backs begin to decline after age 27 04-07-2014
Marshawn Lynch RB SEA
Statistical analysis shows that running back production historically drops off by 15 percent at age 28, 25 percent at age 29, and nearly 40 percent by the time running backs hit age 30.

ESPN.com
The "peak" age for running backs is considered 27. A more extensive article on the topic is accessible at the link below, but it's certainly information for fantasy footballers to file away. Marshawn Lynch in Seattle turns 28 later this month and is coming off his finest two NFL seasons. Including playoffs, Lynch has 1,002 carries over his last three years, an average of 334 per season.
Lions sign CB Cassius Vaughn 04-07-2014
Cassius Vaughn CB DET
Lions signed CB Cassius Vaughn to a one-year contract.

Dave Birkett on Twitter
The Lions worked him out on Monday and moved quickly to add him. We're not surprised Vaughn looked good in shorts -- he has 4.42 speed -- but he has struggled mightily whenever asked to cover receivers in the NFL. Vaughn is a better special teamer and returner. He'll vie for a roster spot with Detroit.
Titans give Wimbley new 3-year, $9M contract 04-07-2014
Kamerion Wimbley LB TEN
Titans signed OLB Kam Wimbley to a new three-year, $9 million contract.

Adam Caplan on Twitter
Jake Locker says he's 'ahead of schedule' 04-07-2014
Jake Locker QB TEN
Jake Locker (Lisfranc surgery) reiterated Monday that he's "ahead of schedule," and is "shooting" to be ready for May OTAs.

Jim Wyatt on Twitter
The Nashville Tennessean's Jim Wyatt posted a TwitPic Monday of Locker with a Nike running shoe as opposed to a walking boot. At this point, we're less concerned with Locker's foot than his on-field ability. Ex-OC Dowell Loggains had Locker playing the best football of his career before the 2013 injury, and he still didn't resemble a franchise quarterback. The coaching staff was fired and replaced by Ken Whisenhunt, who's been noncommittal on Locker as his 2014 starter.
Bucs add veteran depth in Lavelle Hawkins 04-07-2014
Lavelle Hawkins WR TB
Bucs signed WR Lavelle Hawkins.
Free agent S Yeremiah Bell likely to retire 04-07-2014
Yeremiah Bell S ARZ
Free agent S Yeremiah Bell is reportedly likely to retire.

Mike Jurecki on Twitter
Bell started all 16 games for the Cardinals last season, playing just about every snap and handling himself reasonably well as part of the league's No. 6 defense. But at age 36, it sounds like he wants to go out on a high note. The Cardinals need to add depth to the safety spot with Tyrann Mathieu coming off a torn ACL.
Roberto Garza expected to keep his job 04-07-2014
Roberto Garza C CHI
Roberto Garza is expected to retain the starting center job despite the signing of Brian De La Puente.

ESPN Chicago
Kyle Rudolph likely to line up in slot more 04-07-2014
Kyle Rudolph TE MIN
Kyle Rudolph ran 40.2 percent of his pass routes out of the slot last season.

Minneapolis Star-Tribune
We're expecting that number to rise under Norv Turner, who had Jordan Cameron run 60.3 percent of his routes from the slot last season. Rudolph isn't as agile, but he does have a basketball background and is extremely athletic for a 6'6/259-pounder. All signs continue to point toward a breakout campaign.
Malcolm Smith doesn't have defined role 04-07-2014
Malcolm Smith LB SEA
Seahawks LB Malcolm Smith does not have a defined role heading into this season.

Seattle Times
Don't get fooled by Smith's fluky Super Bowl MVP award. He was a fill-in for most of last season, subbing for Bruce Irvin during a PED suspension and then for Bobby Wagner/K.J. Wright during injuries. Smith's best path to playing time is in packages that feature Irvin as a defensive end, thus getting four linebackers on the field.
Colts high on rehabbnig Dwayne Allen 04-07-2014
Dwayne Allen TE IND
GM Ryan Grigson referred to TE Dwayne Allen as "a beast."

colts.com
The Colts are understandably high on Allen, who says he is "110 percent" as he comes off hip surgery. "How he plays in the red zone, how he plays in traffic, how he blocks at the point of attack, the tempo he plays at and the ferocity he plays at, he's a guy you want on your team," Grigson said. With Rob Chudzinski now helping Pep Hamilton as a special assistant, Allen's stock is on the rise sharply. No one gets more out of tight ends than Chud.
Titans planning to use McCluster at RB 04-07-2014
Dexter McCluster RB TEN
The Nashville Tennessean confirms the Titans plan to use Dexter McCluster at running back.

Nashville Tennessean
New coach Ken Whisenhunt is looking to form a committee around power back Shonn Greene and passing back McCluster. He's also expected to use a draft pick, possibly No. 42 overall, on a running back. McCluster hasn't been a ball-carrier since 2011 and is listed at just 5'8/170, but he can be penciled into a Danny Woodhead or Darren Sproles kind of role. How much volume McCluster gets will depend on effectiveness.
Free agent RB Andre Brown visiting Texans 04-07-2014
Andre Brown RB HOU
Free agent RB Andre Brown is visiting the Texans Monday.

Profootballtalk on NBCSports.com
Browns LB Brandon Magee won't report Monday 04-07-2014
Brandon Magee LB TB
Browns LB Brandon Magee remains with the Red Sox, participating in extended spring training.

Akron Beacon-Journal
Magee will not report to the Browns Monday for the first voluntary offseason workout under new coach Mike Pettine. Instead, he's hoping to win a job with the Greenville Drive, the Red Sox's Singe-A affiliate. Magee, who was a backup inside linebacker and special teamer for the Browns last season, plans to fully recommit to football for the first minicamp on April 29.
Cassius Vaughn gets a workout with DET 04-07-2014
Cassius Vaughn CB DET
Free agent CB Cassius Vaughn is working out for the Lions Monday.

Dave Birkett on Twitter
Vaughn started 15 games for the Colts over the last two seasons, often getting roasted in coverage. This is the first known interest the 26-year-old attracted since hitting the open market last month. The Lions continue to look for depth to add to their annually leaky secondary.
Glover Quin to play Ed Reed role on D 04-07-2014
Glover Quin CB DET
Glover Quin will play the Ed Reed role in DC Teryl Austin's scheme.

Detroit Free Press
Austin was Reed's position coach in Baltimore in 2011 and 2012. Quin will no longer play sides like he did under Gunther Cunningham, instead dropping to the deeper part of the field and reading the quarterback. It's a free safety position built for players with a nose for the ball, something Quin has shown during his five-year career. He's recorded 57 pass breakups, eight interceptions and four forced fumbles.
Jags liked Toby Gerhart's YAC ability 04-07-2014
Toby Gerhart RB JAX
The Jaguars believe Toby Gerhart will get more yards after contact than Maurice Jones-Drew did.

Florida Times Union
Gerhart had just 36 carries last season, but according to PFF he did average a very impressive 3.8 yards after contact (YCo) per attempt. In 2012, his YCo was way down at 1.9 on 50 attempts. Jones-Drew was at 2.2 last season and 2.3 in 2012. The Jags see the 231-pound Gerhart as someone that can punish defenders on all three downs for four quarters, running through contact. He'll have volume appeal in fantasy circles.
Ravens expected to feature 2-TE sets 04-07-2014
Dennis Pitta TE BAL
The Ravens are expected to feature a lot of two-tight end sets this season.

Carroll County Times
The signing of Owen Daniels will not have a large impact on the production of Dennis Pitta, who was signed to a $32 million contract in February. New offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak will make strong use both players via "12" formations, with the more athletic and speedy Pitta getting featured in the "move" role. He remains a strong candidate to lead the Ravens in catches.
