Raiders get 2nd-round OT Watson's deal done 07-24-2013
Menelik Watson OT OAK
Raiders signed second-round OT Menelik Watson to a four-year contract. Watson, the No. 42 overall pick, is expected to open the season as the Raiders' starting right tackle, but he's going to have to beat out veteran Khalif Barnes -- which shouldn't be too terribly tough. Watson began his college career as a basketball player at Marist, but he isn't as athletic as that would suggest.
Jets agree to terms with Sheldon Richardson 07-24-2013
Sheldon Richardson OLB NYJ
Jets signed No. 13 overall pick DL Sheldon Richardson to a four-year contract.

Manish Mehta on Twitter
The exact position Richardson will play in the 3-4 is unknown at this point, but he says he lined up "everywhere" in OTAs and minicamp practices. Our best guess is that Muhammad Wilkerson will play left end, Kenrick Ellis will man the nose, and Richardson will slot in on the right side of the Jets' defensive line.
Jets re-sign Braylon Edwards to one-year deal 07-24-2013
Braylon Edwards WR NYJ
Jets re-signed Braylon Edwards to a one-year contract.

Manish Mehta on Twitter
This was fully expected to be finalized after Edwards went through a physical with Gang Green earlier on Wednesday. The 30-year-old appeared in three games for the Jets last season, catching ten passes for 125 yards. New York was in dire need of some veteran receiver help with Santonio Holmes (Lisfranc surgery) still on the shelf. Edwards has a real shot to start in Week 1 against the Bucs.
Panthers WLB Beason restructures contract 07-24-2013
Jon Beason LB NYG
Panthers WLB Jon Beason restructured his contract Wednesday.

Ben Volin on Twitter
Beason, 28, was scheduled to earn a $5.25 million base salary this season. Considered a potential cap casualty early in the offseason process, the injury-prone linebacker kept his spot simply because there's too much money left on his six-year, $51.338 million deal. Beason, MLB Luke Kuechly, and SLB Thomas Davis comprise one of the best-looking linebacker groups in the league on paper, but Beason has appeared in just five games over the last two seasons.
Nate Potter has packed on 10-12 pounds 07-24-2013
Nate Potter T ARZ
Cardinals second-year OT Nate Potter packed on 10-12 pounds in the offseason.

Mike Jurecki on Twitter
Potter is listed at a svelte 6-foot-5, 300 on the Cardinals' official website, and he was knocked back too easily as an over-matched rookie last season. He gave up seven sacks across six starts down the stretch. Potter is reportedly in the mix to start this season, seeing "extensive" work at right tackle at OTAs.
Report: John Abraham has offer from Cardinals 07-24-2013
John Abraham DE ARZ
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Cardinals have an offer on the table to free agent DE/OLB John Abraham.

Jason La Canfora on Twitter
Abraham, 35, visited the team on Wednesday. Arguably the top free agent available on the open market, he'd immediately become the Cardinals' top edge rusher if signed. Abraham has never played outside 'backer in a 3-4 defense, but the Falcons moved him around and stood him up on multiple occasions over the last couple of seasons. He'd be a huge upgrade on both Sam Acho and Lorenzo Alexander.
Report: Arizona close to signing Eric Winston 07-24-2013
Eric Winston OT CIN reports the Cardinals are "closing in" on a one-year deal with free agent RT Eric Winston.

Profootballtalk on NBC Sports
Mike Florio adds that the deal could be completed within "the next 24 hours." The Cardinals' tackles were shoddy at best last season, and there have been recent reports that LT Levi Brown's play in the spring left a lot to be desired. Incumbent right tackle Bobby Massie has taken some reps on the left side this summer, and a Winston signing may be a way of putting Brown on notice.
Packers sign 1st-round pick Datone Jones 07-24-2013
Datone Jones OLB GB
Packers signed No. 26 overall pick RE Datone Jones to a four-year, $7.71 million contract.

Tom Silverstein on Twitter
The Packers believe they've finally found Cullen Jenkins' replacement in Jones, who can rush the passer and play stoutly versus the run from a variety of D-Line positions. Based on his tape study of Jones at UCLA, NFL Films' Greg Cosell has predicted Jones "will develop into a better pass rusher in the NFL than he was in college." Jones will be Green Bay's starting right end on base downs.
Andre Smith reports to camp 'in good shape' 07-24-2013
Andre Smith OT MIN passes along "word" that RT Andre Smith showed up to training camp "in good shape" and appears to be at his playing weight.
Smith has a long-running tendency to let his weight get out of control, going back to Alabama. It was feared after signing his three-year, $18 million contract in April that Smith had ballooned again, particularly after he skipped all of OTAs and minicamp. The Bengals wound up fining Smith for missing the mandatory minicamp. He opened camp on PUP, but only due to a minor calf injury.
Reid: Alex Smith will have to pull trigger 07-24-2013
Alex Smith QB KC
Chiefs coach Andy Reid told NFL Network that his offense will ask Alex Smith to "pull the trigger" in 2013. It's a quietly fascinating situation because Smith has only had success in run-dominated offenses with elite defensive play, making life much easier on the quarterback with favorable down-and-distances and very little comeback mode. Reid has always been a pass-first coach, and apparently has no designs on changing that in K.C. We're not optimistic this ends well for Smith.
Cowboys sign Cohen, cut Tuinei 07-24-2013
Landon Cohen DE SEA
Cowboys signed DL Landon Cohen and waived WR Lavasier Tuinei. Tuinei was signed two days ago. Cohen will provide needed D-Line depth.
Chargers place Brandon Taylor on active/PUP 07-24-2013
Brandon Taylor S SD
Chargers placed SS Brandon Taylor (ACL surgery) on active/PUP. Taylor tore the ACL in December and had the knee reconstructed in January. His return timetable is unknown. Marcus Gilchrist will open Chargers camp as the starting strong safety. Taylor was a 2012 third-round pick out of LSU.
Brandon Marshall (hip) full-go for Bears camp 07-24-2013
Brandon Marshall WR NYJ
Brandon Marshall will be a full-go for the first day of Bears training camp Friday after offseason hip surgery.

ESPN Chicago
Marshall missed all of spring workouts, but the Bears don't expect any member of their roster to open on the PUP or NFI list. Previous speculation had Marshall questionable for the start of camp. His recovery progressed right on schedule. "No limitations," Marshall said, "but we're gonna be smart. I'm going on my eighth year, (have) had a few hip surgeries, nothing major. But at the same time, we start playing games in September. So that's what I'm preparing for." Marshall is a top-five fantasy receiver in 2013, along with Calvin Johnson, Julio Jones, A.J. Green, and Dez Bryant.
Ricky Stanzi working as Chiefs 4th-stringer 07-24-2013
Ricky Stanzi QB NYG
Chiefs QB Ricky Stanzi has been working as a fourth-stringer early in camp.

Kansas City Star
He's behind Alex Smith, Chase Daniel, and undrafted rookie Tyler Bray. Once hailed as "the next Tom Brady" by some draftniks, 2011 fifth-round pick Stanzi's chances of making the 53 are considered "slim" by the Kansas City Star.
Chargers place Melvin Ingram on PUP list 07-24-2013
Melvin Ingram OLB SD
Chargers placed OLB Melvin Ingram (ACL tear) on the active/PUP list.

Ian Rapoport
He'll be transferred to reserve/PUP once training camp and the preseason end. Ingram tore his left ACL at May OTAs. The Chargers haven't given up on the idea of Ingram making a late-season impact, but it's a big-time long shot.
Bengals place Bernard Scott on active/PUP 07-24-2013
Bernard Scott RB BAL
Bengals placed RB Bernard Scott (knee) on the active/PUP list.

Joe Reedy on Twitter
Scott is still recovering from last fall's ACL tear. At one time a somewhat promising prospect, his roster chances decreased significantly when the Bengals drafted Gio Bernard in the second round. Scott's dynasty value is gone.
Titans sign Jackie Battle, DeMarco Cosby 07-24-2013
Jackie Battle RB TEN
Titans signed RB Jackie Battle and TE DeMarco Cosby. They also waived QB Nate Enderle and RB Alvester Alexander. We've seen Battle's act many times before, and he's a straight-line, largely plodding power back with extremely limited running ability. He's Shonn Greene insurance.
Kevin Walter out 4-5 weeks 07-24-2013
Kevin Walter WR TEN
Titans WR Kevin Walter's back surgery will last 4-5 weeks.
Because he'll miss virtually all of training camp, the injury severely threatens Walter's roster chances. The procedure repaired a disk in his back.
Jets sign DT Leger Douzable 07-24-2013
Leger Douzable DE BUF
Jets signed DT Leger Douzable, formerly of the Titans. At 6-foot-4, 284, Douzable can play defensive tackle and end. He'll be squarely on the roster bubble with the Jets, but at least offers some versatility.
Kelce, Moeaki to compete for flex TE role 07-24-2013
Travis Kelce TE KC
The Kansas City Star expects rookie Travis Kelce to compete with Tony Moeaki to be the "move" tight end in the Chiefs' offense.

Kansas City Star
Anthony Fasano is viewed as "line of scrimmage guy" by OC Doug Pederson, while Moeaki and Kelce will compete to be the flex tight end. The Star believes the team is more "committed to Fasano and Kelce." Moeaki could be trade bait late in camp if he lasts through August healthy. Talented Kelce is a potential TE2.
Browns sign FB Bolen, waive two 07-24-2013
Brock Bolen RB CLE
Browns signed FB Brock Bolen and waived OL Dominic Alford and WR Kennan Davis. Bolen is an undersized fullback at 6-foot, 233 who'll try to make the Browns on special teams. Alford and Davis were practice-squad types at best.
Zero run plays through 2 days of Chiefs camp 07-24-2013
Alex Smith QB KC
The Chiefs haven't attempted a single running play in teams drills through two days of training camp.

Kansas City Star
Andy Reid has always been an ardent believer in slinging the ball around the yard. While we've yet to see any football games, early indications from Chiefs camp suggest Reid won't change his offensive philosophy to fit his talent in Kansas City. Jamaal Charles is the best player on the roster, and new QB Alex Smith has never had success in a high-volume pass game. In 2011 with the 49ers, Smith attempted the fewest passes of any 16-game starter. In 2012, Smith was on pace for even fewer attempts before getting benched in favor of Colin Kaepernick.
Cardinals waive LB Fugger 07-24-2013
Tim Fugger LB NYJ
Cardinals waived LB Tim Fugger. Fugger was a measurables freak out of Vanderbilt in the 2012 draft.
Mike Wallace to see some snaps in the slot? 07-24-2013
Mike Wallace WR BAL
Mike Wallace anticipates seeing situational snaps in the slot with Miami.

Miami Herald
It's a nice idea to get the receivers moving around, decreasing snap-to-snap offensive predictability, but Wallace will have to clean up his routes to make this work. Perhaps it's just a training camp experiment. "I will be inside a little more," Wallace claimed. "I had primary things to do in Pittsburgh. Here I'm switching a little bit more and doing a little bit more of everything."
Eagles claim William Powell, cut Nick Miller 07-24-2013
William Powell RB HOU
Eagles claimed RB William Powell off waivers from the Cardinals and waived WR/PR Nick Miller. Philadelphia is building a large stable of tailbacks as it gears up for Chip Kelly's run-dominated offense. They've already got LeSean McCoy, Bryce Brown, Felix Jones, Chris Polk, and Matthew Tucker. Powell will be extremely stretched for a roster spot, however, and is likely only around for insurance.
Redskins DE Carriker having another surgery 07-24-2013
Adam Carriker DE WAS
Redskins DE Adam Carriker will undergo another surgery on his torn quadriceps on Thursday.

Tarik El-Bashir on Twitter
He's out indefinitely. Carriker has experienced numerous setbacks as he recovers from last year's injury, and opened camp on the PUP list. He'll also likely now open the season on reserve/PUP, costing Carriker the first six games. Stephen Bowen and Jarvis Jenkins will be Washington's starting ends in Week 1.
John Greco gets 5-year, $13 million contract 07-24-2013
John Greco C CLE
Browns LG John Greco's five-year contract has a max worth of $13 million if he maintains a starting job.

Cleveland Plain Dealer
If Greco plays as well as he did in 2012, it's a steal of a deal for the Browns, who also protected themselves by making the deal worth just $6 million over five seasons if Greco loses his starting job. Just $3 million of the pact is guaranteed. Greco is expected to be Cleveland's starting left guard this season. Shawn Lauvao and Jason Pinkston are competing to start at right guard.
Griffin doesn't plan to play in preseason 07-24-2013
Robert Griffin QB CLE
Robert Griffin III (knee) confirmed Wednesday that he does not plan to play in any preseason games "unless it's a necessity." RG3 barely played in the 2012 preseason, attempting all of 31 passes and scrambling five times, spread out over three exhibition contests. That was considered surprising at the time. But clearly he doesn't need a ton of preseason reps to be ready for the regular season. In Week 1 against the Saints, RG3 completed 73.1 percent of his throws with 362 all-purpose yards and two TDs.
Titans consider McCarthy 100 percent healthy 07-24-2013
Colin McCarthy LB TEN
The Titans consider MLB Colin McCarthy 100 percent recovered from last year's ankle injuries and concussion entering camp.

Nashville Tennessean
"He's healthy. He looks good," coach Mike Munchak said. "There are no concerns there as far as us having to limit him in any way." McCarthy is tentatively expected to hold off journeyman Moise Fokou for the starting middle linebacker spot.
Jaguars claim Ray Polk off waivers 07-24-2013
Ray Polk S JAX
Jaguars claimed S Ray Polk off waivers from the Seahawks. Jags coach Gus Bradley is familiar with Polk from their time together in Seattle. In Jacksonville, Polk will likely compete for a practice squad job.
Broncos place C Walton on PUP list 07-24-2013
J.D. Walton C SD
Broncos placed C J.D. Walton (ankle surgery) on the active/PUP list.

Denver Post
He'll go on reserve/PUP at final cuts. Walton underwent a second surgery on his troublesome ankle in June. The Broncos are hopeful he'll be able to play in the season's second half "if all goes well with healing." Nick Koppen will be Denver's starter in Week 1. Walton is in the last year of his contract.
Panthers make three roster moves 07-24-2013
Lamont Bryant WR TEN
Panthers waived/injured WR Lamont Bryant and signed OL Garrett Chisolm and WR/TE Dominique Curry. Bryant showed up to Panthers camp injured and may spend the year on I.R. once he clears waivers. Chisolm and Curry will be training camp practice bodies.
Jonathan Stewart to undergo physical Thursday 07-24-2013
Jonathan Stewart RB CAR
Jonathan Stewart (ankle surgeries) will undergo an "extensive" physical Thursday at Panthers headquarters.

Charlotte Observer
The physical will determine whether Stewart is cleared for the beginning of training camp. "Thursday is when we'll get the definitive (answer)," coach Ron Rivera said. "Kind of hoping he's ready to go, or ready to go in a limited capacity, once we get there on Thursday." Stewart's health status remains a major concern. His Average Draft Position is the early- to mid-eighth round.
Bears won't do Cutler extension before 2014 07-24-2013
Jay Cutler QB CHI
Bears GM Phil Emery stated Wednesday that the team will not be signing any players to extensions during the 2013 season.

Ian Rapoport on Twitter
This applies particularly to contract-year QB Jay Cutler and franchise player DT Henry Melton. Cutler, as he's publicly said he wants to do, will "bet on himself" and go the Joe Flacco route, hoping a big season in Marc Trestman's offense leads to a big 2014 extension. Trestman is proven as an outstanding QB manager and manipulator. We believe Cutler is making a smart bet.
Jay Ratliff 'at least a few weeks away' 07-24-2013
Jay Ratliff DT CHI
Cowboys DT Jay Ratliff is "at least a few weeks away" from practicing after straining his hamstring during his pre-camp conditioning test.

Gregg Rosenthal on Twitter
Training camp has barely begun and the Cowboys are already noticeably beat up, particularly on the defensive line. The team initially billed Ratliff's strain as "mild." It now sounds like he'll miss some of the preseason.
Hakeem Nicks only looked 'OK' at minicamp 07-24-2013
Hakeem Nicks WR NO
Hakeem Nicks reportedly only looked "OK" at spring minicamp and still hasn't "flashed his full speed."

New York Daily News
There could've been a number of reasons for this, of course. Perhaps Nicks wasn't going all-out as he comes back from debilitating foot and knee injuries. Or perhaps he hasn't fully regained his lower-body explosion. We'll learn more about Nicks in preseason games. He's going to be a dicey WR2 pick.
Rams waive OG Watkins 07-24-2013
Rokevious Watkins G KC
Rams waived OG Rok Watkins.

Adam Caplan on Twitter
A 2012 fifth-round pick, Watkins struggled with weight issues during his brief stay in St. Louis and was suspended for the season opener after violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. It's possible the Rams decided to cut ties because Watkins showed up to training camp out of shape. Chris Williams is the favorite to start at left guard, with Harvey Dahl returning at right guard.
Justin Hunter to be full-go for Titans camp 07-24-2013
Justin Hunter WR BUF
Rookie WR Justin Hunter (hamstring) will be a full-go when the Titans open training camp.

Nashville Tennessean
After missing all of OTAs, Hunter returned for the end of minicamp and has been healthy since. Vying for targets behind Kenny Britt and Kendall Wright, Hunter is a major long shot for year-one fantasy football impact in Tennessee's already low-percentage pass offense quarterbacked by erratic Jake Locker.
Cowboys reach out to Amobi Okoye 07-24-2013
Amobi Okoye DT DAL
The Cowboys are showing interest in free agent DT Amobi Okoye.

ESPN Dallas
The Cowboys need line depth after losing Tyrone Crawford for the season and Anthony Spencer to left knee surgery. Okoye is familiar with Dallas DL coach Rod Marinelli after spending time with Marinelli in Chicago last season.
Lions sign WR Chaz Schilens 07-24-2013
Chaz Schilens WR DET
Lions signed WR Chaz Schilens, formerly of the Jets. Schilens, 27, caught 28 balls for 289 yards and two touchdowns with the Jets last year, making six starts. Though blessed with a fast forty time and 6-foot-4, 225-pound build, Schilens is a possession receiver who averages 11.9 yards per catch in his career. He'll compete for a roster spot with Detroit.
Jets to bring back free agent Braylon Edwards 07-24-2013
Braylon Edwards WR NYJ
The Jets are currently putting free agent Braylon Edwards through a physical and are on the verge of signing him.

Manish Mehta on Twitter
30-year-old Edwards has struggled with various injuries the past few seasons, including to his knee. If the Jets pass him, he'll immediately step onto the practice field and compete for snaps at New York's thinnest position. Santonio Holmes' recovery from Lisfranc surgery remains behind schedule, and there are serious doubts about whether Holmes will be ready for the season opener.
Jets back Geno Smith after rough spring 07-24-2013
Geno Smith QB NYJ
Jets OC Marty Mornhinweg downplayed reports about Geno Smith's up-and-down spring and insists the second-round pick is "way ahead of the pace of a normal rookie."

New York Daily News
"I think Geno's close," added Mornhinweg. "I don't think he's there yet. But he's close to being able to get into a game and function at a high level. So our whole challenge - and his challenge - is that first preseason game." The Jets open the preseason on August 9 against Detroit. Early reports indicate Mark Sanchez has a lead in the QB race, but Smith can't be ruled out yet.
Jamar Taylor now missing time at Fins camp 07-24-2013
Jamar Taylor CB CLE
Dolphins rookie CB Jamar Taylor has missed three days of training camp due to recurring issues related to his May sports hernia surgery.

Palm Beach Post
A projected first-rounder in some circles, Taylor fell to the 54th pick in the draft due to medical concerns. While sports hernia surgeries typically don't require long-term recovery periods, we've noticed that patients of this operation seem highly susceptible to setbacks. Taylor only seems day to day.
Jake Locker to get all the reps for Titans 07-24-2013
Jake Locker QB TEN
Jake Locker is expected to start all four preseason games for the Titans.

Jim Wyatt on Twitter
The Titans aren't going to mess around and try to coddle Locker. He needs as many reps as possible in both practices and games as he tries to get comfortable in the pocket and gain accuracy. Backup Ryan Fitzpatrick will have to make due to with limited first-team work.
Report: John Abraham is visiting Cardinals 07-24-2013
John Abraham DE ARZ
According to XTRA 910 Phoenix, free agent DE/OLB John Abraham is visiting the Cardinals Wednesday.

Mike Jurecki on Twitter
Abraham remains on the street because of playing time and salary demands. With training camp here, perhaps he's willing to come back to reality. At age 35, Abraham could play a situational pass-rushing role for the Cardinals, shifting to outside linebacker for the first time in his career to accommodate their 3-4. Projected starting OLBs Sam Acho and Lorenzo Alexander combined for just 6.5 sacks last year. Abraham posted 10 by himself.
Justin Cole signs with Browns 07-24-2013
Justin Cole LB OAK
Browns signed LB Justin Cole. Cole dressed in all 16 games for the Rams last season, but made just two tackles. He'll be a special teamer and depth if the cracks the Browns' final roster as well.
Taylor Mays enters camp on the roster bubble 07-24-2013
Taylor Mays SS CIN
Bengals S Taylor Mays enters training camp on the roster bubble.

Cincinnati Enquirer
The Bengals are still waiting for Mays' "instincts catch up with his elite physical skills," and he's in a heated competition with George Iloka, Jeromy Miles, and rookie Shawn Williams for playing time opposite Reggie Nelson. Mays could end camp as high as a first-team safety, or as low as on the waiver wire.
Schefter: MIN won't hesitate to go to Cassel 07-24-2013
Matt Cassel QB TEN
ESPN's Adam Schefter says the Vikings "won't hesitate" to turn to Matt Cassel if Christian Ponder struggles this season.
Per Schefter, there are people around the league who believe Cassel is "underrated." Those people apparently didn't watch the tape of Cassel's eight starts for the Chiefs last season, when he posted a 64.5 quarterback rating, threw five touchdowns against 11 interceptions and lost six fumbles. We're expecting Ponder to take a step forward in his third NFL season and hold off Cassel with ease.
Kawann Short more explosive than Star 07-24-2013
Kawann Short DT CAR
Coach Ron Rivera said second-round DT Kawann Short is a more explosive pass rusher than No. 14 overall pick Star Lotulelei right now.

Charlotte Observer
"He has slither about him," Rivera said of Short. "He can get into the crease and turn his body, drop his shoulder and come off a blocker very smooth-like." The coach added that while Lotulelei reported to camp in good physical condition, Short showed up in better shape. With Star projecting as an impact run-stuffer right away and Short pushing the pocket, the Panthers' front seven is finally looking up.
Desmond Trufant signs his rookie deal 07-24-2013
Desmond Trufant CB ATL
Falcons agreed to terms with No. 22 overall pick Desmond Trufant on a four-year contract.

Adam Schefter on Twitter
The younger brother of 2007 Pro Bowler Marcus, the Falcons are counting on Desmond to make an immediate impact. He's projected to slide right in as the starting right corner, filling Brent Grimes' old shoes opposite Asante Samuel. Trufant only has to beat out Robert Alford and Dominique Franks.
Travelle Wharton leaves CAR, headed to DEN 07-24-2013
Travelle Wharton T CAR
Free agent G Travelle Wharton will visit the Broncos.

Bill Williamson on Twitter
Wharton left his visit to Carolina without a contract. Now he goes to Denver, where he'll catch up with old coach John Fox. Wharton spent seven years with Fox while the pair were with the Panthers.
Kevin Walter starts out on active/PUP 07-24-2013
Kevin Walter WR TEN
Titans placed WR Kevin Walter (back) on the active/PUP list.

Jim Wyatt on Twitter
Walter missed June OTAs due to lower back soreness and a subsequent scope. He should resume practicing shortly, but he'll be a role player in the Titans' crowded receiving corps.
Delanie Walker sidelined following knee scope 07-24-2013
Delanie Walker TE TEN
Titans placed TE Delanie Walker (knee) on the active/PUP list.

49ers decline comment on Moss 07-24-2013
Randy Moss WR N/A
49ers GM Trent Baalke declined to comment on whether free agent Randy Moss has contacted him.

San Jose Mercury News
"I can't say whether he has or hasn't. Once again, nobody's off limits. Nobody." Baalke was responding to a question from a reporter -- he didn't bring up Moss on his own. It remains an extreme longshot that the Niners will bring back the 36-year-old Moss after he posted a meager 28/434/3 line for them last year. Baalke seems intent on letting A.J. Jenkins, Kyle Williams and Ricardo Lockette battle for the starting job opposite Anquan Boldin.
Von Miller appeal will be heard in mid-August 07-24-2013
Von Miller OLB DEN
The NFL is targeting mid-August as an appeal date for Von Miller's four-game suspension.

Adam Schefter on Twitter
It's rumored Miller was suspended four games for testing positive for amphetamines and marijuana during his rookie season in 2011, and then a recent positive test for MDMA powder known as "Molly." He insists he's done nothing wrong. The NFL will be sure to get this case resolved before the regular season starts.
Browns captain: Josh Gordon on thin ice 07-24-2013
Josh Gordon WR CLE
Browns captain D'Qwell Jackson said suspended WR Josh Gordon "doesn't have that many lives left."

Cleveland Plain Dealer
Gordon tested positive for marijuana three times in college and will sit out the first two games of this season after testing positive for codeine. "He's got one more time to really straighten things up before he's got to leave," Jackson said. "I think he is starting to realize that." If Gordon violates the substance abuse policy again, he'll be facing a one-year ban.
Matt Slauson expected to start at left guard 07-24-2013
Matt Slauson C SD
ESPN Chicago confirms Matt Slauson is expected to start at left guard.

ESPN Chicago
Slauson was a quality pass protector as the Jets' starting left guard over the last three seasons. He represents yet another upgrade on a Bears' offensive line that has a chance to actually keep Jay Cutler upright this season. First-round Rookie Kyle Long is the favorite to win the right guard job and Jermon Bushrod was signed to play left tackle.
Sean Renfree gets his deal with Falcons 07-24-2013
Sean Renfree QB TB
Falcons agreed to terms with No. 249 overall pick QB Sean Renfree on a four-year contract.

D. Orlando Ledbetter on Twitter
A three-year starter at Duke, Renfree posted a 64.7 completion percentage and tossed 50 touchdowns against 40 interceptions. With ideal size (6'3/219) and excellent feel as a passer, there's some long-term appeal here for the Falcons. Renfree will spend this year as the developmental No. 3 quarterback behind Matt Ryan and Dominique Davis.
Bjoern Werner gets deal done with Colts 07-24-2013
Bjoern Werner OLB JAX

Danny Coale suffers a setback already 07-24-2013
Danny Coale WR PIT
Cowboys WR Danny Coale is already dealing with swelling in his surgically repaired knee.

Dallas Morning News
Coale underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee on December 11. The Cowboys can't reasonably expect a contribution this season and may be forced to move on at final cuts.
Rocky Bernard visiting Lions Wednesday 07-24-2013
Rocky Bernard DT NYG
Free agent DT Rocky Bernard is visiting the Lions Wednesday.

Adam Schefter on Twitter
It's the first known interest in Bernard since the Giants let him walk in free agency. He's 34 now, but could still give the Lions some early-down rotational depth behind starters Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley. Defensive end Jason Jones is expected to move inside on passing downs.
Michael Vick aware of injury prone label 07-24-2013
Michael Vick QB PIT
Michael Vick admitted he's earned an injury prone label over the last three years.

Philadelphia Inquirer & Daily News
Vick has missed 13 of the Eagles' last 48 regular season games (27 percent). He says he's added four pounds of muscle this offseason in an effort to absorb hits better. "Can't you tell? I've been doing a lot of curls, a lot of bench presses in the offseason, just trying to put my body in the best position possible to withstand the hits," Vick said. "You know, everybody says I'm injury-prone, so I'm trying to fight that."
Dez Bryant already lighting up Cowboys camp 07-24-2013

Dez Bryant is already off to a hot start at Cowboys training camp.

ESPN Dallas
Bucs see Brian Leonard as third-down option 07-24-2013
Brian Leonard RB ARZ
The Bucs see Brian Leonard as a third-down option.

Tampa Bay Times
The Bucs' backfield is starting to take shape. Doug Martin is going to be an every-down back and the bell cow. When he needs a breather on early downs, Michael Smith or Peyton Hillis will come on. When he asks out on third downs, Leonard will get the call. None of these backup-caliber players are a threat to Martin's projected workload.
Ahmad Bradshaw tweets that he'll be ready 07-24-2013
Ahmad Bradshaw RB IND
Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) did not express concern over opening camp on the active/PUP list.

Indianapolis Star
The Colts are just exercising extra caution with Bradshaw as he recovers from January surgery on his right foot. "For all y'all believers, just know tht I will b ready to rock. Come regular season. So, thank u, and keep believing. God-bless!" he said on Twitter. Bradshaw's solid history of playing through foot issues and performing without much practice bodes well for his 2013 outlook. He's missed just eight games over the last five seasons.
Ravens still have some interest in Leach 07-24-2013
Vonta Leach RB BAL
The Ravens reportedly still have some interest in bringing free agent FB Vonta Leach back.

Baltimore Sun
The Ravens aren't shutting the door on Leach's return as they wait to see how fourth-round rookie Kyle Juszczyk fares in his first NFL training camp. If the Harvard product shows well as expected, we wouldn't expect Baltimore to make Leach any kind of offer. The Dolphins and Giants have also shown interest in Leach.
Cowboys will sign George Selvie 07-24-2013
George Selvie DE NYG
Cowboys will sign DE George Selvie.

National Football Post
Jason Pierre-Paul's former teammate at South Florida, Selvie is already on his fourth NFL team since being drafted in 2010. He'll give the Cowboys a little depth after they lost Anthony Spencer (knee) for up to a month and Tyrone Crawford (Achilles) for the season. Selvie had just one sack while playing 238 snaps for the Jags last year.
Gilbride has more praise for Rueben Randle 07-24-2013
Rueben Randle WR CHI
OC Kevin Gilbride said Rueben Randle now looks "like a guy that has been here for five or six years."

New York Daily News
As a rookie last season, Randle's work ethic, route-running and precision were questioned. He's answered those questions in a hurry, starring during the offseason program while Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks sat out. "His whole demeanor, his whole professionalism, was outstanding," Gilbride said. Randle will come on as the outside receiver in all three-wide sets, kicking Cruz into the slot. There's plenty of sleeper appeal here.
Bucs, Mike Williams reach $40.25M extension 07-24-2013
Mike Williams WR KC
Bucs re-signed WR Mike Williams to a six-year, $40.25 million contract. Williams had one year left on his rookie deal, so it's really a five-year extension that goes through the 2018 season. The 2010 fourth-rounder has been a solid red-zone weapon and No. 2 wideout, using his 6'2/212 frame and strong ball skills to set a franchise record with 23 touchdowns in his first three seasons. He's never reached 1,000 yards in a single campaign, but has gone for 900-plus twice and has never missed a game. The $6.70 million average annual value of Williams' deal is similar to the value of deals signed by Brian Hartline and Danny Amendola this offseason. He didn't get Dwayne Bowe or Greg Jennings kind of money.
Patriots to lean more on Vereen in 2013? 07-24-2013
Shane Vereen RB NYG
SI's Greg Bedard stated in an interview with 98.5 The Sports Hub that the Patriots internally contemplated increasing Shane Vereen's usage last year, and suggested Vereen may help replace Aaron Hernandez in 2013.

98.5 The Sports Hub
"I think he can be a very effective player," former Patriots beat writer Bedard said of Vereen. "He's the guy who ... when Gronk went out (last year) and they were really looking at some options, I kept hearing from people inside the organization to keep an eye on Vereen. They think he can fill some of the role that Hernandez did. So I don't see why that can't happen this year. How they're gonna do it, I'm not sure." Vereen is a recommended flex/RB2 pick in fantasy drafts.
Giants expected to split carries at RB 07-24-2013
David Wilson RB NYG
ESPN New York anticipates the Giants will "split carries" between David Wilson and Andre Brown.

ESPN New York
Beat writer Ohm Youngmisuk describes Wilson and Brown as a "one-two punch," and at least some of Wilson's playing time will be tied to pass protection. We'll get a better read on the Wilson-Brown situation as training camp progresses, but to this point the tentative plan seems to be a running back committee.
