Blackmon not expected to start camp on PUP 07-19-2013
Justin Blackmon WR JAX
Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell said Justin Blackmon (groin) may be limited at the start of training camp, but he "probably" won't open camp on the PUP list.

Ryan O'Halloran on Twitter
Blackmon underwent groin surgery last month, and he was limited throughout OTAs and minicamp. The Jaguars will likely bring him along slowly due to the fact that he is already suspended for the first four games of the regular season. Blackmon is eligible to practice with the team and play in preseason games.
Free agent DT Justin Bannan to visit Lions 07-19-2013
Justin Bannan DE DET
Free agent DT Justin Bannan will visit the Lions on Monday.

Denver Post
It will be Bannan's first visit of free agency. The Chargers were reportedly interested in the 34-year-old last month, but nothing came of it. Bannan started 15 games for the Broncos last season, recording 42 tackles.
O'Brien Schofield on the outside looking in? 07-19-2013
O'Brien Schofield LB SEA
The Cardinals' official website made no mention of OLB O'Brien Schofield when dissecting the team's pass rush.

azcardinals.com
Beat writer Darren Urban talked briefly about Sam Acho, Matt Shaughnessy, and Lorenzo Alexander, as well as rookie Alex Okafor, but Schofield's name was nowhere to be seen. It's expected that Alexander will start opposite Acho, and it appears Schofield has fallen behind the other two. Schofield carries a $1.323 million salary and may be on the outside looking in.
Browns get CB Leon McFadden under contract 07-19-2013
Leon McFadden CB CLE
Browns signed third-round CB Leon McFadden to a four-year contract. McFadden, the No. 68 overall pick, ran with the second-team defense during spring practices, but he is squarely in the mix to start opposite Joe Haden. NFL Films guru Greg Cosell called him "an absolutely terrific player" in the pre-draft process, despite his small stature (5-foot-9 5/8, 193). McFadden will compete with Buster Skrine and Chris Owens for the No. 2 cornerback job.
Delone Carter ordered to pay man $40,000 07-19-2013
Delone Carter RB JAX
An Onondaga County Supreme Court jury ordered Colts RB Delone Carter to pay a man he punched in the face $40,000.

Syracuse Post-Standard
In 2010, while playing for Syracuse, Carter punched William "Jay" Hotaling after he thought Hotaling had thrown a snowball at the SUV Carter had been driving. Surveillance later showed that Hotaling didn't toss the snowball, and Carter eventually admitted to punching him. Hotaling suffered multiple facial fractures, and Carter was also ordered to pay the medical expenses.
Eric Wright was arrested last week in L.A. 07-19-2013
Eric Wright CB SF
New 49ers CB Eric Wright was arrested in Los Angeles and charged with an unknown misdemeanor last Friday night.

Rick Stroud on Twitter
Wright posted $5,000 bond and was released. This very well may have played a part in the Bucs' decision to ship him out on Friday. Various beat writers reported, following the trade, that the Bucs were planning to release Wright had they not found a trade partner. They did well to secure a late-round pick.
Banks now penciled in as Bucs' No. 2 corner 07-19-2013
Johnthan Banks CB TB
Second-round rookie Johnthan Banks is now penciled in as the Bucs' No. 2 corner following the trade of Eric Wright to the 49ers. Banks may even be penned in; the Bucs have precious little depth behind both Banks and Darrelle Revis. 2010 third-rounder Myron Lewis, 2011 seventh-rounder Anthony Gaitor, and 2012 undrafted free agent Leonard Johnson will compete for nickel duties, though none of the three scare opposing offenses. The Bucs can ill afford to lose any corners to injury this preseason.
Report: 49ers want to dump CB Carlos Rogers 07-19-2013
Carlos Rogers CB OAK
Yahoo! Sports' Jason Cole "keeps hearing" the 49ers "don't want to keep" CB Carlos Rogers.

Jason Cole on Twitter
Rogers was considered a potential cap casualty when the offseason began, but many figured he was a "lock" to keep his spot once $1.25 million of his $5.5 million 2013 salary became guaranteed on April 1. Following the acquisition of Eric Wright on Friday, all three of Rogers, Wright, and Nnamdi Asomugha will have to compete to earn their places on the 53-man roster.
Bucs trade CB Eric Wright to 49ers for a pick 07-19-2013
Eric Wright CB SF
49ers acquired CB Eric Wright from the Buccaneers in exchange for a conditional late-round pick.

Patriots waive WR Donald Jones 07-19-2013
Donald Jones WR NE
Patriots waived WR Donald Jones.

Ian Rapoport on Twitter
According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, the Patriots "want to get their young guys reps." Jones signed a three-year contract with New England in March, but the deal contained no guaranteed money. This move would seem to improve veteran Molasses Michael Jenkins' chances of making the final 53-man roster.
Browns ink seventh-round DE Armonty Bryant 07-19-2013
Armonty Bryant LB CLE
Browns signed seventh-round DE Armonty Bryant to a four-year contract. Bryant, the 217th overall pick, has had an eventful start to his NFL career. Shortly after the draft, he was arrested and charged with drunken driving in Ada, Oklahoma. Bryant recently said that he's now sober after struggling with drugs and alcohol in the past. He'll compete for a roster spot.
DeSean Jackson hires Joel Segal as new agent 07-19-2013
DeSean Jackson WR WAS
DeSean Jackson hired Joel Segal as his new agent.

Liz Mullen on Twitter
D-Jack fired longtime agent Drew Rosenhaus early last month, and there were rumors he was going to team up with Jay-Z's Roc Nation. Instead, Jackson is siding with Segal, who also represents Michael Vick and many other NFLers. Although Jackson inked a "five-year deal" last March, all of the substantial guarantees came in the first two years. Segal may be negotiating a new contract next spring. Jackson's salary skies to a whopping $10.25 million in 2014.
Going to be tough for Mariani to make Titans 07-19-2013
Marc Mariani WR TEN
The Nashville Tennessean believes it will be a "challenge" for Marc Mariani to unseat Darius Reynaud as the Titans' return specialist.

Nashville Tennessean
Mariani suffered a compound leg fracture last preseason, and it left some wondering if the 2010 Pro Bowler's career was over. He's now nearing 100 percent, while coming off an "amazing" spring. Reynaud returned two punts and one kickoff to the house last season, and he was re-signed to a one-year deal.
Broncos WLB Woodyard seeking new contract 07-19-2013
Wesley Woodyard LB TEN
Broncos WLB Wesley Woodyard hopes to receive a contract extension before Week 1.

Denver Post
Woodyard, 27 on Sunday, is entering the final year of his contract, and he's scheduled to earn a base salary of $3 million. He just signed a new two-year deal last spring, but he answered the bell by posting his best season yet. Woodyard recorded 117 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and three interceptions, while grading out as Pro Football Focus' top coverage 4-3 outside 'backer. He's likely seeking roughly $6 million annually on a new contract.
Cowboys plan to sign QB Tanney, WR Tuinei 07-19-2013
Alex Tanney QB TB
The Cowboys plan to sign free agents QB Alex Tanney and WR Lavasier Tuinei.

Dallas Morning News
Both players worked out for the Cowboys earlier in the week, and will accompany the team to Oxnard, CA for training camp this weekend.
Maclin expects to have big season under Kelly 07-19-2013
Jeremy Maclin WR PHI
Jeremy Maclin expects to be more involved in the offense under new coach Chip Kelly.

CSN Philly
"I'm going to be honest, the last offense was geared to the position that [DeSean Jackson] played," Maclin said. "D-Jack and I were able to complement each other, and it worked well. But that's just how the offense was tailored." Maclin has never topped 1,000 yards in a season in his four years, but there's good reason to be optimistic he'll do it this year. He's entering the final year of his contract, and the Eagles are going to run one of the quickest, up-tempo offenses in the league.
Tanner 75 percent chance to keep spot? 07-19-2013
Phillip Tanner RB DAL
ESPN Dallas gives Cowboys RB Phillip Tanner a 75 percent chance of keeping his roster.

ESPN Dallas
Tanner has gotten attention as somebody who has "physically remade his body" this offseason, but his career 2.9 yards per carry sticks out like a sore thumb. Reporter Todd Archer speculates the Cowboys could sign a veteran free agent if they don't like what they see from Tanner and rookie Joseph Randle in camp. Tanner isn't going to make a fantasy impact this season.
League still looking into Brooks incident 07-19-2013
Ahmad Brooks LB SF
The league is still reviewing 49ers OLB Ahmad Brooks' alleged assault of teammate Lamar Divens even though the Santa Clara DA's office has decided not to pursue charges.

Sacramento Bee
It's doubtful Brooks will face punishment, but it wouldn't be stunning if an increasingly-image conscious NFL imposed a fine or one-game suspension. The former is much more likely than the latter.
Schiano: Dimke will compete with Tynes 07-19-2013
Derek Dimke K NO
Bucs coach Greg Schiano says second-year UDFA Derek Dimke will compete with Lawrence Tynes for kicking duties.

Tampa Tribune
"We'll see how that plays out," Schiano claimed Thursday. Tynes will have to majorly face-plant to lose the job.
Colts' Ijalana healthy for training camp 07-19-2013
Ben Ijalana T NYJ
Colts G/T Ben Ijalana is healthy for training camp.

Indianapolis Star
Ijalana tore his left ACL for the second time on the very first play of last year's camp. The No. 49 overall pick of the 2011 draft has already racked up an astonishing five surgeries during his brief NFL career. His shot at a roster spot is poor.
Paper projects Eric Wright as Week 1 starter 07-19-2013
Eric Wright CB SF
The Tampa Bay Times projects Bucs CB Eric Wright to start opposite LCB Darrelle Revis, with second-rounder Johnthan Banks manning the slot.

Stephen Holder on Twitter
Reporter Stephen Holder believes Banks would have to be "superb" to beat out Wright in camp. Wright is still only 28 (next week), and barely a year removed from signing his since voided five-year, $37.5 million deal. He's a strong bounce-back candidate provided he can put his injury and suspension-plagued 2012 behind him.
Report: Cowboys plan to sign Demetress Bell 07-19-2013
Demetrius Bell OT DAL
ESPN Dallas reports the Cowboys plan to sign free agent OT Demetress Bell.

ESPN Dallas
All that stands between a deal is a physical. Bell would serve as a reserve at both tackle spots, but could theoretically put himself in the starting mix at right tackle if Dallas doesn't like what it sees from Doug Free and Jermey Parnell. Bell flopped spectacularly in Philadelphia last season.
Report: Patriots won't release CB Dennard 07-19-2013
Alfonzo Dennard CB NE
A league source tells the Boston Globe the Patriots are not planning to release CB Alfonzo Dennard in the wake of his DUI arrest, but are prepared for him to be suspended.

Boston Globe
Dennard has been arrested twice in two years. Jets CB Aaron Berry was suspended three games under similar circumstances. Dennard could be sent to jail if prosecutors decide to revoke his probation at a July 31 court appearance. The troublemaking cornerback was/is scheduled to serve 30 days in jail beginning next March after being convicted of assaulting a police officer in an April 2012 incident. Dennard is contesting the DUI charge, saying he actually blew under the legal limit on his breathalyzer test. The arresting officer alleges Dennard did not blow hard enough.
IR/designated for return likely for Crabtree 07-19-2013
Michael Crabtree WR SF
CSN Bay Area expects Michael Crabtree (Achilles' surgery) to begin the year on injured reserve/designated for return.

CSN Bay Area
The PUP list is another possibility, but injured reserve/designated for return makes more sense because Crabtree is expected to miss in the neighborhood of 10-12 games. It's highly unlikely the 49ers lose another player as important as Crabtree between now and Week 1, making him the obvious candidate for the team's lone "return" tag. Unless your redraft league is exceptionally deep, there's little reason to use a late-round flier on Crabtree.
Webb will 'probably' start camp on PUP list 07-19-2013
Lardarius Webb CB BAL
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Ravens LCB Lardarius Webb (torn ACL) will "probably" start camp on the active/PUP list.

Ian Rapoport on Twitter
It's just a precaution. Players can be activated from active/PUP at any time. Webb appeared to be overstating his progress for a good chunk of the offseason, but he's still on track to be ready for Week 1.
Sean Lee 'good to go' for Cowboys camp 07-19-2013
Sean Lee LB DAL
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports MLB Sean Lee (toe) is "good to go" for Cowboys camp.

Ian Rapoport on Twitter
We'd never heard otherwise. Lee missed the final 10 games last season, but was a full participant in the Cowboys' offseason program. Going into the final year of his rookie contract, Lee could position himself for a mega-deal if he can stay on the field.
Report: Dion Jordan won't hold out 'long' 07-19-2013
Dion Jordan DE MIA
Yahoo's Jason Cole reports No. 3 overall pick Dion Jordan isn't expected to hold out "long, if at all" in his contract dispute with the Dolphins.

Jason Cole on Twitter
The sides are bickering over offset language, which has become a common theme under the new CBA. It's a fight the teams usually win, and one Miami won with Ryan Tannehill last summer. There's yet to be a protracted rookie holdout since the players and owners hammered out a new CBA two years ago.
Jeff Demps still planning to join Buccaneers 07-19-2013
Jeff Demps RB TB
The Tampa Bay Times reports Bucs KR Jeff Demps still hopes to join the team in the coming weeks "depending on his track and field schedule."

Tampa Bay Times
Demps is awaiting word on if he'll be running in an event in Moscow from August 10-18. If he is, it would wipe out nearly all of camp and at least two preseason games. Demps would be one of the fastest players in the league - clearly - but it's hard to see him earning a roster spot. Being a two-sport athlete just isn't a realistic endeavor in this day and age.

Ex-Texans OG Chester Pitts has joined a T.V. station in Houston.

Steve Beauharnais 60 percent shot at spot? 07-19-2013
Steve Beauharnais LB NE
ESPN Boston gives seventh-round LB Steve Beauharnais a 60 percent chance of making the roster.

ESPN Boston
Beauharnais was one of the final picks of the draft, but hails from Bill Belichick's beloved Rutgers. He'll compete for a spot on special teams, and will be stashed on the practice squad if he can't crack the 53-man roster.
Ware, Ratliff could be limited early on 07-19-2013
DeMarcus Ware LB DEN
ESPN Dallas reports Cowboys RE DeMarcus Ware (shoulder) and DT Jay Ratliff (sports-hernia surgery) could be limited early in camp.

ESPN Dallas
Ware himself has said he'll be "out there doing everything," but coach Jason Garrett was more cautious. "He's made great progress coming off the injuries from last year," Garrett said. "We'll certainly be smart going forward and see how he is each and every day. He seems excited and he seems ready to go." Ratliff's operation was in December, so it's a bit surprising he might start off limited. Either way, he'll be ready for Week 1.
Vonta Leach open to returning to Baltimore 07-19-2013
Vonta Leach RB BAL
Free agent FB Vonta Leach "hasn't ruled out" re-signing with the Ravens.

Baltimore Sun
With the Dolphins reportedly out of the running for Leach's services, we'd imagine he "hasn't ruled out" anything. The Ravens released Leach in a cost-cutting move last month. Going on 32, Leach remained a high-end lead blocker last season.
Ravens' Upshaw down to 275-pound 'range' 07-19-2013
Courtney Upshaw LB BAL
Ravens LB Courtney Upshaw is back down to the 275-pound "range."

Baltimore Sun
Upshaw ballooned as high as 295 pounds earlier this offseason, prompting coach John Harbaugh to bluntly state he "eats too much." Upshaw blamed his weight gain on "personal issues." Upshaw failed his initial conditioning test as a rookie, but his trainer insists he'll pass this season. Upshaw is expected to serve as a rotational backup on both the inside and outside this season.
Rams officially bring back Will Witherspoon 07-19-2013
Will Witherspoon LB STL
Rams agreed to terms with LB Will Witherspoon.

Adam Schefter on Twitter
The 11-year veteran spent 2006-09 in St. Louis. He was traded to the Eagles midway through the 2009 season. Witherspoon started all 16 games for Jeff Fisher's Titans in 2010. Coming off a bend-but-don't-break type of season in Tennessee, Witherspoon will serve as veteran insurance behind Alec Ogletree, James Laurinaitis and Jo-Lonn Dunbar. There's no guarantee he'll make the roster, but he should be given every opportunity to do so.
Pinkston, Lauvao competing at right guard? 07-19-2013
Jason Pinkston T CLE
ESPN Cleveland expects Shawn Lauvao and Jason Pinkston to compete at right guard.

Nick Foles thinks arm has gotten stronger 07-19-2013
Nick Foles QB PHI
Nick Foles believes his arm has gotten stronger.

Philadelphia Inquirer & Daily News
"I feel like (my arm is) even stronger now just training, nutrition, everything," Foles said. "I think that your arm can get stronger." Foles' arm strength has never been a weakness, but is not an overwhelming strength, either. It's more than big enough for the NFL, but can't match up with Michael Vick's. It's unlikely to be a major factor in the Eagles' quarterback competition.
Report: RGIII could follow AD's schedule 07-19-2013
Robert Griffin III QB WAS
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Robert Griffin III (knee) could follow a training camp schedule similar to Adrian Peterson's from 2012.

NFL.com
Peterson spent the first 16 days of Vikings camp on the PUP list, doing work on the side to prove he was ready to return. AD did not appear in the preseason. It would be far from surprising if the Redskins followed a similar course with RGIII, as they have nothing to gain from him going full blast on day one. We expect him to open camp on active/PUP, from which he can be activated at any time. The rub is, he would then no longer be eligible for reserve/PUP to begin the season.
