Bears P Way could make Podlesh expendable 06-12-2013
Tress Way P CHI
Bears punter Tress Way has a legitimate chance to win the punting job over Adam Podlesh.

Chicago Tribune
Podlesh signed a five-year, $10 million contract in 2011 but got off to a slow start after suffering a hip flexor injury last season. Way has a bigger leg than Podlesh, and if he can improve with his consistency he'll provide the Bears with a cheaper, younger option. The battle for the job will likely continue into preseason.
Eagles LT Peters arrested 06-12-2013
Jason Peters T PHI
Eagles LT Jason Peters was arrested on Wednesday for drag racing and resisting a police officer by flight.

thenewsstar.com
Peters and another sedan were caught drag racing at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday morning. When the police attempted to stop them, the sedan pulled over but Peters tried to flee. The report states Peters hit speeds in excess of 100 mph as he attempted to escape, but was unsuccessful. The arrest will surely be a headache for Peters off the field, but shouldn't cause him to miss any time on it.
Jets WR Hill struggling with drops 06-12-2013
Stephen Hill WR NYJ
Jets WR Stephen Hill has been struggling with drops throughout summer.

ESPN New York
Hill was extremely raw as a route-runner and struggled with drops while at Georgia Tech. Since entering the NFL, he's done very little as a receiver to shed his "project" label. Both Santonio Holmes and coach Rex Ryan openly expressed their frustration with Hill's inability to show consistent hands. Hill's individual struggles, coupled with inconsistent play at quarterback, is a recipe for a rough season in New York.
Bills G/C Legursky competing to start 06-12-2013
Doug Legursky C BUF
Bills G/C Doug Legursky has a legitimate chance to win the starting left guard spot.

WGR 550 Buffalo
When Legursky was signed earlier this month, it was assumed he was brought in as depth at center behind Eric Wood. Head coach Doug Marrone has declared an open competition at left guard, and singled out Legursky and Colin Brown as the front-runners for the job.
Chargers Woodhead to play most third downs 06-12-2013
Danny Woodhead RB SD
The San Diego Union-Tribune's Kevin Acee anticipates RB Danny Woodhead playing the majority of third down snaps for the team.

Kevin Acee on Twitter
When the Chargers selected Ryan Mathews in the first round, they thought he was a three-down feature back. Unfortunately for them, Mathews never developed his pass-blocking, and remains an unreliable two-down rusher. Woodhead is a much more accomplished blocker, and is expected to handle most third downs and two-minute drill situations. He's in line for a big role this season.
49ers tipped plays to opposing defenses 06-12-2013
Craig Dahl S SF
49ers safety Craig Dahl informed his new coaches that the Rams were able to predict the team's play calls last season.

CSN Bay Area
The 49ers were reportedly already aware of the problem, and some were quick to attribute the signing of Eric Mangini to this issue. We're not convinced this was the sole reason for bringing in Mangini, but it is interesting to hear at least one team thought the team's play calling was predictable. According to Dahl, the 49ers have corrected the problem with the help of his input and "self-scouting."
Jets WR Holmes wont commit to Week 1 status 06-12-2013
Santonio Holmes WR CHI
Jets WR Santonio Holmes (Lisfranc) wouldn't commit to his Week 1 availability during a media session on Wednesday.

Newark Star-Ledger
Holmes is gradually improving, but it's a bit disconcerting that he's just recently "learned to walk again." Holmes wouldn't even give a straight answer when asked if he's able to jog, only saying he's "restricted to working out." Holmes' status for Week 1 is very much up in the air.
Pitt CB Gay will play outside 06-12-2013
William Gay CB PIT
Steelers CB William Gay will play outside in nickel packages.

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
Gay was repeatedly burned in Arizona playing outside, so it was widely assumed he'd move back to his former role as a slot corner in Pittsburgh. Secondary coach Carnell Lake is intent on keeping him outside, while sliding Cortez Allen into the slot.
Redskins sign K Potter 06-12-2013
John Potter K MIA
Redskins signed kicker John Potter. Potter, a seventh-round pick of the Bills last year, is know for his big leg. He'll compete for a role as a kick off specialist in Washington.
Redskins add WR Henderson 06-12-2013
Devery Henderson WR WAS
Redskins signed WR Devery Henderson, formerly of the Saints. The 'Skins added Henderson and Donte' Stallworth to the roster in an effort to add speed to their receiving corps. With neither player providing any help on special teams, it's safe to assume they're directly competing for a spot. The Redskins are suddenly crowded at wide receiver.
49ers expected to rotate defensive line more 06-12-2013
Justin Smith DE SF
The 49ers are expected to rotate their defensive line more heavily than in past seasons.

Mike Sando on Twitter
From 2011-2012 only two defensive lineman played more snaps than Justin Smith and Ray McDonald. Smith will turn 34 during the first month of the season and is coming off a torn triceps injury. The defense was noticeably weaker with Smith out of the lineup, so it's in the best interest of the team to keep him fresh.
Redskins waived/injured TE Peterson 06-12-2013
Deangelo Peterson TE DEN
Redskins waived/injured TE Deangelo Peterson. Peterson broke his right foot last week, and was looking at a four-to-six week recovery. The Redskins decided to move in another direction.
Redskins waived/injured DE Worthington 06-12-2013
Doug Worthington DT SD
Redskins waived/injured DE Doug Worthington. Coach Mike Shanahan mentioned in a media session earlier today that Worthington had suffered a bicep injury likely requiring surgery.
Texans waived WR Jones 06-12-2013
Dwight Jones WR NYJ
Texans waived WR Dwight Jones from reserve-did not report list. James had some talent in college, but lacked passion for the game. He never reported to the Texans after agreeing to terms as an undrafted free agent last season.
49ers release TE Morrah 06-12-2013
Cameron Morrah TE DEN
The 49ers released TE Cameron Morrah. Morrah, 26, was signed by the team back in April as a potential "move" tight end. Having missed 37 games over his first four seasons, Morrah was considered a long shot to make the roster. When the team drafted TE Vance McDonald, Morrah became expendable.
Vikings C Sullivan remains on track 06-12-2013
John Sullivan C MIN
Vikings center John Sullivan (microfracture surgery) continues to progress from offseason surgery.

Minneapolis Star-Tribune
Coach Leslie Frazier says his standout center is on track in his recovery, but added the team "still has to see a little more progress." Frazier intimated that everything is fine physically, but he'd like to see Sullivan "continue to gain confidence and not be worried about the surgery." It sounds like Sullivan's biggest challenge will be with the mental aspect of coming off an injury. He's expected to be medically cleared for the start of camp.
Lions CB Bentley continues to flash 06-12-2013
Dwight Bentley CB DET
Lions CB Bill Bentley has continued to stand out in minicamp.

MLive.com
Bentley has been competing with Ronald Bartell for the No. 2 cornerback job opposite Chris Houston. The Detroit News and MLive.com consider Bentley the favorite to earn the job. He has the versatility to cover the slot in nickel packages with Bartell filling his spot on the outside.
WR Nicks resumes practicing 06-12-2013
Hakeem Nicks WR IND
Giants WR Hakeem Nicks has resumed practicing with the team.

Ralph Vacchiano on Twitter
Nicks showed up for the start of minicamp on Tuesday to avoid being fined. He was expected to work out on a limited basis, but was a full-go at practice on Wednesday. If Nicks can stay healthy, expect a big bounce-back year from him as he pushes for a new contract.
Redskins ink WR Donte' Stallworth 06-12-2013
Donte Stallworth WR WAS
Redskins signed WR Donte' Stallworth, formerly of the Patriots.

Adam Schefter on Twitter
Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan had already revealed the team's plan to sign the wide receiver, so this comes as no surprise. Stallworth spent most of 2012 on the street before signing with the Patriots. He played in one game, recording a 63 yard touchdown, before injuring his ankle and landing on injured reserve. He'll compete for situational role with the Redskins.
Panthers WR/KR Edwards likely to make team 06-12-2013
Armanti Edwards WR CHI
The Charlotte Observer now considers Panthers WR/KR likely to make the team "with no problem."

Jonathan Jones on Twitter
The Charlotte Observer is reversing course on Edwards, who they believed was "hard to see a spot," for just three weeks ago. Edwards has been a major flop since being taken in the third round of the 2010 draft, but may finally be turning a corner after stringing together multiple impressive practices. It's an encouraging sign for a Panthers receiving corps devoid of talent, but we wont hold our breath waiting for his talent to carry over on game day.
Raiders rookie RB Murray out with foot issue 06-12-2013
Latavius Murray RB OAK
Raiders running back Latavius Murray has been sidelined throughout minicamp with an undisclosed foot issue.

Steve Corkran on Twitter
After impressing coaches at OTAs, Murray will sit out this entire minicamp with what's being called a "sore foot." Coach Dennis Allen wouldn't elaborate on the injury, but indicated the team expects the rookie to be fine by the start of training camp. The Raiders are likely holding him out as a precautionary measure.
Pats WR Edelman sheds walking boot 06-12-2013
Julian Edelman WR NE
Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman was spotted working out on Wednesday with no added protection on his right foot.

Christopher Price on Twitter
Although Edelman didn't participate in practice, it's a step in the right direction. The shifty wide receiver is squarely on the roster bubble, and is battling Donald Jones, Lavelle Hawkins and Michael Jenkins for a roster spot. He'll need to be healthy for training camp if he's to have any shot at making the team.
Pitt rookie Bell only roster lock among RBs? 06-12-2013
Le'Veon Bell RB PIT
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ed Bouchette speculates rookie Le'Veon Bell and Isaac Redman are the only running backs guaranteed a roster spot.

Ed Bouchette on Twitter
Bouchette is one of the most plugged-in beat writers in the NFL, so his opinion is noteworthy. He believes Baron Batch, Jonathan Dwyer and La'Rod Stephens-Howling are competing for two roster spots. Stephens-Howling may be the most intriguing of the three since he provides versatility as a change-of-pace back, and has a history with offensive coordinator Todd Haley. Dwyer and Batch will battle it out for the remaining spot.
Giants DB Thomas working out individually 06-12-2013
Terrell Thomas CB SEA
Giants DB Terrell Thomas (torn ACL) has been working out individually at minicamp.

Newark Star-Ledger
Thomas, 28, is rehabbing his third ACL tear in his right knee. He's been backpedaling and doing some "light cutting," but the team is continuing to hold him out of football activities as a precaution. It's anticipated Thomas will be moved to safety to reduce the stress on his knee, although the defensive back says his only concern right now is "getting back on the field."
Redskins DE Worthington suffers bicep injury 06-12-2013
Doug Worthington DT SD
Redskins DE Doug Worthington suffered a biceps injury on Wednesday.

Rich Campbell on Twitter
He'll undergo more tests to determine the severity of the injury, but Coach Mike Shanahan already alluded to surgery as a possibility. Worthington was brought up off the practice squad last year, and was competing for a reserve-role with the team.
LB Greenway has successful surgery on knee 06-12-2013
Chad Greenway LB MIN
Vikings SLB Chad Greenway (knee) underwent surgery on Wednesday to clean out debris in his knee.

Dan Wiederer on Twitter
Coach Leslie Frazier deemed the surgery as minor, and added there are "no worries," that Greenway will be ready for camp. Greenway hasn't missed a game since becoming a starter in 2007, and will be 100 percent entering the season.
Zone-read still major part of 'Skins attack 06-12-2013
Robert Griffin III QB WAS
During a Q&A session with the media on Wednesday, offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan reiterated the team's intent to rely on the zone-read.

Mike Jones on Twitter
The Redskins took a lot of heat last year for using RG3 on designed runs, leaving him susceptible to big hits. Kyle Shanahan disagreed, saying the zone-read "kept Griffin safe," and the quarterback's injuries came "on broken pass plays." He added Griffin needs to know when to slide, but expect the Redskins to use RG3's running ability as much as they did in his rookie year.
Jets want to sign TE Kellen Winslow 06-12-2013
Kellen Winslow TE NYJ
The Jets will reportedly try to sign free agent TE Kellen Winslow following this week's minicamp.

Manish Mehta on Twitter
If Winslow's balky knees can hold up for a couple more days, he's going to get an offer. He's impressed during his tryout and is obviously a massive talent upgrade on current starting tight end Jeff Cumberland. The question is if Winslow can sustain health.
Terrell Owens hasn't heard from a single team 06-12-2013
Terrell Owens WR N/A
Free agent WR Terrell Owens confirmed he hasn't heard from another NFL team since the Seahawks released him last August.

NFL.com
Owens will turn 40 in December, but wants to play this season. He claims the lack of interest stems from politics. "I think a lot of it has to do with my reputation, things that I've done early in my career," he said. In reality, Owens can no longer contribute on the field. He should be getting his retirement papers prepared.
Rex: Geno could do some read-option 06-12-2013
Geno Smith QB NYJ
Coach Rex Ryan said the Jets could have a read-option package in place for rookie QB Geno Smith if he doesn't win the starting job.

Rich Cimini on Twitter
If this sounds familiar, it's because this is exactly what Ryan said the Jets would do with Tim Tebow. They proceeded to show zero creativity whatsoever and Tebow ended up getting 32 rushes and eight passing attempts all season. Although Mark Sanchez has reportedly been impressing at OTAs and minicamp, Smith's sights should be firmly set on the starting gig.
Zach Miller has a boot on foot 06-12-2013
Zach Miller TE SEA
Seahawks TE Zach Miller was spotted with a boot on his left foot Tuesday.

Tacoma News Tribune
Panthers see Hartsock as complement to Olsen 06-12-2013
Ben Hartsock TE NE
Panthers coach Ron Rivera insists No. 2 TE Ben Hartsock is a good complement to Greg Olsen.

Charlotte Observer
Hartsock is a mediocre blocker and a liability in the passing game. But to hear Rivera tell it, he's a key piece. "You look at his catches, they're all on the underneath routes - the quick ins, the quick outs. People miss the value of that when you have one tight end that can stretch the field and the other one that can attack the middle." Greg Olsen is going to push for 90-plus percent of the snaps once again this year.
Kirby confirms the starting job is wide open 06-12-2013
Jonathan Dwyer RB ARZ
Steelers running backs coach Kirby Wilson confirmed that there's no official pecking order yet.

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
Jonathan Dwyer will be on top of the depth chart heading into training camp, but that has nothing to do with his play. "We just start them where we ended," Wilson said, referring to last season. Rookie Le'Veon Bell shouldn't have a problem beating out Dwyer and Isaac Redman in August.
Top beat writer: Rams will use a RBBC 06-12-2013
Zac Stacy RB STL
Beat writer Jim Thomas "really" thinks the Rams will use a running back committee.

St Louis Post-Dispatch
Isaiah Pead and Zac Stacy are the top candidates for the starting role and inside rushing. Coach Jeff Fisher has said he wants to get the ball to Daryl Richardson in space as much as possible. And fullback-type Terrance Ganaway could be used as a short-yardage specialist. "We're going to try to play to their strengths," OC Brian Schottenheimer said. "With (Steven Jackson) last year, it was a little different. It was harder to do the committee because every time you took him out, you knew you were missing his leadership and his toughness. This year I think we've got nice pieces to try and blend in and differently attack people."
Danny Woodhead to be involved with Chargers 06-12-2013
Danny Woodhead RB SD
ESPN's Bill Williamson expects Danny Woodhead to be a part of "a lot of packages" in the Chargers' offense.

ESPN.com
Woodhead and Ronnie Brown are the backups to unreliable two-down rusher Ryan Mathews. Expect Woodhead to play on plenty of third downs as well as the majority of two- and four-minute drill situations. Considering Brown caught 49 passes last year, we wouldn't rule out 50-plus catches for Woodhead. He's on the PPR radar as depth.
Bengals unload FS Robert Sands 06-12-2013

Saints lose new OLB Victor Butler to torn ACL 06-12-2013
Victor Butler LB NO
A source tells the Times-Picayune that Saints OLB Victor Butler tore his ACL during Tuesday's practice.

Larry Holder on Twitter
After showing significant potential as a pass-rusher in a part-time role with the Cowboys over the last four seasons, Butler went shopping for playing time in free agency. He landed a two-year, $3 million contract with the Saints and was expected to start at the SAM linebacker spot in Rob Ryan's 3-4 scheme. Now he's looking at a season on the injured reserve list, leaving Martez Wilson as the next man up. The injury happened during a collision with Mark Ingram during what was supposed to be a non-contact practice.
Ahmad Bradshaw still in a boot 06-12-2013
Ahmad Bradshaw RB IND
New Colts RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot surgery) remains in a walking boot.

Indianapolis Star
Bradshaw's underwent his latest right foot procedure in January. He insists he'll be ready for the first day of training camp with his new team, and there's little reason to doubt him. Despite tons of missed practice time and surgeries, Bradshaw has missed just 12 games across his six-year career.
911 tape from Pacman accuser released 06-12-2013
Adam Jones CB CIN
The 911 tape from the woman accusing Pacman Jones of assault has been released.

Cincinnati Enquirer
Jones claims he was hit in the head with a beer bottle after declining to take a picture with two women. Shannon Wesley has a different version of the events. "He was harassing my friend and saying derogatory things towards my friend and I stood up for them and he called me a b**** and he punched me in my head," she said on the tape. Pacman has pleaded not guilty.
Mike Glennon signs his rookie contract 06-12-2013
Mike Glennon QB TB
Bucs signed third-round QB Mike Glennon to a four-year contract. A two-year starter at North Carolina State with a cannon for an arm, the 6'7/225 Glennon makes for an interesting Dynasty stash. Starter Josh Freeman is entering a contract year and has been taking shots from coach Greg Schiano for much of the offseason. If he doesn't take the Bucs to the playoffs this season, Glennon could find himself in the driver's seat for the starter's job come 2014. He drew some comparisons to Joe Flacco during the pre-draft process.
Raiders quarterbacks faceplant at minicamp 06-12-2013
Matt Flynn QB GB
Beat writer Steve Corkran says the play of the Raiders quarterbacks at Tuesday's minicamp was the worst he's seen in 19 years covering the NFL.

Contra Costa Times
DeSean: Vick and Foles have been even 06-12-2013
Nick Foles QB PHI
DeSean Jackson said the competition between Michael Vick and Nick Foles has been "pretty even" so far.

Philadelphia Inquirer & Daily News
Jackson doesn't seem to think coach Chip Kelly is leaning one way or the other. "Vick and Foles have been switching off first team, second team," he said. Note that Jackson didn't even include rookie Matt Barkley in the competition. Despite pleas from Vick and D-Jax for a starter to be named before camp, we're not expecting Kelly to tip his hand until mid-August.

Ted Ginn in the mix for a deep threat role 06-12-2013
Ted Ginn WR ARZ
Coach Ron Rivera hinted that Ted Ginn will be used in a situational deep threat role this season.

ESPN.com
Domenik Hixon (hamstring) is sitting out this week's minicamp, so Ginn is getting a shot at some No. 3 wideout reps in addition to his return duties. "Obviously, with his speed, we know he can blow the top off the covers and he's showing. He's going," Rivera said. "I think he's going to help us with some of the complimentary reps that we'll have." Ginn has averaged 23.3 yards per reception on his 161 career catches. At the very least, he can clear out a safety.
Report: Chaz Schilens meets with Pats 06-12-2013
Chaz Schilens WR DET
Free agent WR Chaz Schilens is attending Patriots minicamp this week on a tryout basis.

ESPN Boston
Once considered a fantasy sleeper way back in 2009 as JaMarcus Russell's No. 1 receiver, foot injuries sent Schilens into a tailspin. He's never caught more than 29 passes in a season and recorded a 29/289/2 line with the Jets last year despite all their injuries at wideout. Schilens does look good getting off the bus at 6'4/225.

Antonio Gates looking 'quick and fit' 06-12-2013
Antonio Gates TE SD
Antonio Gates has reportedly looked "quick and fit" during Chargers OTAs and minicamp.

Union-Tribune San Diego
Speed and elusiveness has certainly been an issue of late for Gates, who has battled foot problems. Over the last two years, he's averaging just 4.0 catches for 47.0 yards per game, serving mostly as a strict red-zone threat. Projecting players to reverse their career arc in their age-33 season is asking for trouble. Despite scoring at least seven touchdowns in nine straight seasons, Gates is our No. 15 fantasy tight end right now.
Keenan Allen moving well at minicamp 06-12-2013
Keenan Allen WR SD
Chargers third-round WR Keenan Allen (knee) didn't appear limited at all during Tuesday's minicamp.
