Richard Jefferson returns, scores 13 points 10-12-2013
Richard Jefferson F DAL
Richard Jefferson returned to action on Saturday with 13 points, two 3-pointers and eight rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench. The veteran got a night off on Friday but apparently it wasn't due to injury. He's been a fantasy pariah since leaving Milwaukee in 2009, but Utah's depth chart is thin enough that we'll keep an eye on him once the regular season gets underway.
Byron Mullens flashes 3-point game, scores 15 10-12-2013
B.J. Mullens C PHI
Byron Mullens hit three 3-pointers on his way to 15 points off the bench on Saturday, adding four rebounds and one steal in 16 minutes. Mullens' volume of 3-point shots belies sub-par efficiency, as he made only 31.7 percent of his 3.9 attempts per game last year. The Clippers may live with that trade-off to clear space in the paint, however, and Mullens is a safe bet for one 3-pointer and a handful of rebounds per game off L.A.'s bench.
DeAndre Jordan racking up pts, rebs and blks 10-12-2013
DeAndre Jordan C LAC
DeAndre Jordan scored 14 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked six shots during Saturday's easy win vs. Utah. It's been a fun preseason for Jordan thus far. He's a great option if you're in need of high-percentage points, rebounds and blocks, but he does so little else (while hurting you in FT percentage) that he wasn't even a top-175 player in eight-cat leagues last year.
Blake Griffin returns after mild ankle sprain 10-12-2013
Blake Griffin F LAC
Blake Griffin walked off a sprained ankle on Saturday, returning to finish with 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting, four boards and one assist. He didn't miss a beat after having his ankle re-taped, and his jump shot looked smoother than ever. Griffin just returned from a bone bruise in his left knee, but Doc Rivers said he'd play Blake unless the training staff had objections. Apparently he meant it. We're considering Blake probable for exhibitions on Monday and Tuesday, though L.A. may give him a precautionary DNP in one of the back-to-back games.
Update: Trey Burke breaks right index finger 10-12-2013
Trey Burke G UTH
Updating a previous report, Trey Burke fractured his right index finger during Saturday's game and he'll be re-evaluated on Monday.

Steve Luhm on Twitter
The nature of the fracture and the treatment prescribed will determine Burke's timetable, but it will likely be measured in weeks. Utah was already perilously thin at PG and they'll likely start John Lucas III until Burke is ready to return. Where's Earl Watson when you need him?
Biyombo grabs 21 rebounds in start at center 10-12-2013
Bismack Biyombo F CHA
Bismack Biyombo started at center in Saturday's exhibition, snaring 21 rebounds to go along with nine points, two blocks and five turnovers. He logged 37 minutes while Al Jefferson was absent with his sprained ankle in a protective boot. Biyombo would certainly have a big role if Jefferson misses regular season games, but his averages in 65 starts last year should make fantasy owners pause -- 5.0 points (including 51.6 percent FT shooting), 7.7 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.4 steals and 1.8 blocks. There should be blocks-specialists with a touch more upside late in most drafts.
Caron Butler scores 18 points to lead Bucks 10-12-2013
Caron Butler F DET
Caron Butler led the Bucks with 18 points on 7-of-16 shooting in Saturday's defeat, adding two 3-pointers, six rebounds and two assists. Larry Drew suggested that Caron would be the Bucks' second-option offensively this year, and he may not have been kidding. We don't expect him to be this active most nights, and Ersan Ilyasova's absence left more shots available, but fantasy owners can reasonably pencil Butler in as a late-round pick.
Gerald Henderson quiet in win vs. Milwaukee 10-12-2013
Gerald Henderson G CHA
Gerald Henderson made 1-of-9 field goals vs. the Bucks on Saturday, finishing with four points in 28 minutes. If that wasn't bleak enough, he had only one rebound without any assists, steals or blocks. This game can be thrown out the window for evaluation purposes, however, and Henderson's averages after the All-Star break last year give a more realistic baseline -- 18.9 points, 0.4 threes, 4.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.6 steals per game.
Cody Zeller goes scoreless in 24 minutes 10-12-2013
Cody Zeller F CHA
Bobcats rookie Cody Zeller finished Saturday with zero points on 0-of-5 shooting, though he added four rebounds and two assists in 24 minutes. Zeller will take his lumps just like any NBA rookie, and tonight was particularly rough. The good news is that Josh McRoberts' lingering toe injury may have handed the starting PF job to Zeller during training camp, and the rookie has generally been impressive during the preseason.
Jannero Pargo's 24 points lead the Bobcats 10-12-2013
Jannero Pargo G CHA
Bobcats reserve G Jannero Pargo led all scorers on Saturday with 24 points, making 8-of-12 shots including a perfect 4-of-4 from downtown. He did his damage in 23 minutes, mostly against a disjointed Bucks' second-unit, and this solid game isn't applicable to his regular season outlook. Kemba Walker had a slow night by comparison, scoring 12 points with four boards and one assist in 25 minutes.
Augustin battles Buycks for backup PG minutes 10-12-2013
D.J. Augustin G DET
D.J. Augustin scored eight points in 18 minutes off the Raptors' bench on Saturday, but he had only one assist vs. three turnovers. Augustin is fighting for the backup PG job with rookie Dwight Buycks, who added eight points, six assists, two steals and two turnovers in 23 minutes. Buycks won't often have a stellar assist-to-turnover ratio, but he was the second-leading scorer in France last season and could emerge as a key part of Toronto's second unit. With Kyle Lowry's injury history, this backup position battle is worth watching in the early part of the season.
Derrick Williams returns, scores 11 points 10-12-2013
Derrick Williams F SAC
Derrick Williams returned from a precautionary one-game absence to score 11 points with zero rebounds, one assist and one steal on Saturday. With Kevin Love healthy at PF, Williams' ability to play the SF position will go a long way toward determining his value until Chase Budinger (knee) returns. He didn't have much luck playing the position last season, but slimmed down this summer and should earn backup minutes at both PF and SF.
Alexey Shved struggles in fill-in start at SG 10-12-2013
Alexsey Shved G PHI
Alexey Shved filled in at SG for Kevin Martin (Achilles) on Saturday, finishing with three points on 0-of-4 FGs and 3-of-6 FTs. He added one rebound, one assist and two steals in 19 minutes. Shooting was a major weakness for Shved as a rookie, when he hit just 37.2 percent of his FGs and 72.0 percent of his FTs. With a middling assist-to-turnover ratio, and Martin expected to be fully healthy for the regular season, there isn't much of interest on Shved's fantasy horizon.
Rubio fills up stat sheet, other than scoring 10-12-2013
Ricky Rubio G MIN
Ricky Rubio accumulated five rebounds, six assists, four steals and one block with a solitary turnover in Saturday's loss, but he missed all seven of his field goal attempts. It would have been nice to see Ricky knock down a few jumpers, an area of focus for him this summer, but we can't complain about the rest of his stats. That will be a common refrain from his fantasy owners this year, but even mild improvement in his shooting numbers will vault him into elite company.
Kevin Love's 28 & 11 lead Wolves in defeat 10-12-2013
Kevin Love F CLE
Kevin Love recaptured his form from the 2011-12 season on Saturday, pouring in 28 points with two 3-pointers, 11 rebounds, two assists, two steals and zero turnovers. He went to the FT line 10 times, making eight of them, and this summer's glowing reports about his fitness and improving game seem to have been accurate. The Wolves intend to use Love more as a facilitator this year, and as long as he's holding the ball good things will happen.
Ike Diogu scores 21 pts to lead all scorers 10-12-2013
Ike Diogu F NY
Knicks big man Ike Diogu scored 21 points off the bench on Saturday to lead all scorers -- he made 6-of-11 FGs and 9-of-11 FTs, with eight rebounds. If you're looking for a reason to ignore the boxscore for this game, here it is. Diogu scored two points in two appearances in 2011-12, he wasn't in the NBA last year, and he's not even certain to make the Knicks' roster this year. Reserve SG Toure' Murry was the Knicks' second-highest scorer with 16 points on 8-of-21 shooting.
Kelly Olynyk leads Celtics with 15 points 10-12-2013
Kelly Olynyk F BOS
Kelly Olynyk scored 15 points in Boston's easy win on Saturday, making 5-of-6 FGs with one 3-pointer, six rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block. He also sank 4-of-4 FTs and only turned the ball over once in 25 minutes. Olynyk has a legitimate chance to establish himself as a rookie starter for the Celtics, and Brad Stevens is genuinely encouraging his big men to shoot from the perimeter this year. Things are shaping up to make Olynyk a possible late-round sleeper pick.
Caldwell-Pope mixes good and bad off bench 10-12-2013
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope G DET
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope committed a flagrant foul on Marko Jaric during Saturday's exhibition, to go along with 12 points, seven rebounds and six personal fouls. The flagrant was a blatant error on KCP's part, but Detroit has enough reliable veterans that the rookie shouldn't get too far out of line. The truly bad news is that Coach Mo Cheeks, a self-described "veterans coach," has shown little inclination to hand the starting SG job to the Pistons' overall No. 8 pick.
Andrei Kirilenko w/ four steals, three blocks 10-12-2013
Andrei Kirilenko F BKN
Despite playing only 20 minutes off the bench, Andrei Kirilenko had four points, two rebounds, four steals and three blocks vs. the Pistons. His rapid-fire accumulation of defensive stats is a good reminder of what he's capable of, though fantasy owners should remain wary of his bench role (and occasional starts if Paul Pierce or Kevin Garnett are rested).
Peyton Siva (calf) back for short-handed DET 10-12-2013
Peyton Siva G ORL
Peyton Siva (calf) returned for the Pistons' short-handed backcourt in Saturday's victory, notching eight points with two assists and five turnovers in 15 minutes. His return was well-timed given the absence of Brandon Jennings (wisdom teeth), Rodney Stuckey (finger), and Chauncey Billups (rest). The 6'0", 185 pound guard was the No. 56 pick of the 2013 draft and he's not currently on the fantasy radar.
Drummond piles up efficient line vs. Nets 10-12-2013
Andre Drummond F DET
Andre Drummond had yet another efficient game on Saturday, scoring 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting with six rebounds, three steals and one block in only 18 minutes of action. Lines like this may quickly become ho-hum for Drummond. Though a handful of preseason games don't mean much long-term, his seemingly effortless success bodes very well for him as a full-time starter. He's been much quicker and more assertive with his post-up game and many a fantasy owner will happily punt FT percentage to land him this season.
Trey Burke hurts right hand but stays in game 10-12-2013
Trey Burke G UTH
Trey Burke hurt his right hand during Saturday's game, but he returned to the game after having two fingers taped together.

Jody Genessy on Twitter
Jazz radio announcer David Locke suggested that the injury "looked [like a] dislocation," but fortunately Burke avoided any serious damage. He was icing the hand and we'll let you know if there's any reason to update your fantasy rankings.
Blake Griffin leaves with rolled right ankle 10-12-2013
Blake Griffin F LAC
Blake Griffin headed into the Clippers' locker room after rolling his right ankle during Saturday's game. He had just returned from a bone bruise in his left knee, and it would be very surprising if he comes back out during Saturday's game. We'll pass along updates as they are announced.
Tyshawn Taylor leaves game with sore ankle 10-12-2013
Tyshawn Taylor G NO
Tyshawn Taylor will not return to Saturday's game after injuring his right ankle in the first half.

Brooklyn Nets on Twitter
It looked like a sprain but it's being called a "sore ankle" we should have some official diagnosis before long. It does nothing to Taylor chip away minutes from second-string PG Shaun Livingston, but both guys may get minutes regardless with Deron Williams (ankle) possibly facing a few DNPs to start the season.
Al Jefferson (ankle) aiming to play in opener 10-12-2013
Al Jefferson C CHA
Al Jefferson (sprained ankle) will be re-evaluated in a few days and he said he's "going to do [his] best" to play in the Bobcats' season opener.

Yahoo! Sports
He'll continue to wear a walking boot at least until he's reevaluated, but the good news is that X-rays were negative and it seems he's only dealing with a sprain. Bismack Biyombo started at center in his place on Saturday, and guys like Cody Zeller and Josh McRoberts will have more opportunities until Big Al returns. The Bobcats begin their regular season on Oct. 30.
Blake Griffin (knee) will play on Saturday 10-12-2013
Blake Griffin F LAC
Blake Griffin (left knee) will play on Saturday.

Ralph Lawler on Twitter
This confirms that the bone bruise in his knee isn't anything to worry about.
Derrick Rose (knee) expects to play on Wed. 10-12-2013
Derrick Rose G CHI
Derrick Rose said of his recent left knee soreness, "It's nothing huge. I know that I should be able to go next game."

K.C. Johnson on Twitter
The Bulls play in Chicago on Wednesday, and if Rose suits up it will confirm that his absence from Saturday's exhibition was purely a precaution. Bulls VP John Paxson already ruled out structural damage and said that Rose doesn't need an MRI, so let's all take a collective breath while we await further updates.
Kevin Martin (Achilles) out again on Saturday 10-12-2013
Kevin Martin G MIN
Kevin Martin (sore Achilles) will not play on Saturday.

Jerry Zgoda on Twitter
The injury isn't serious and K-Mart's precautionary absence gives him 10 days to recover before Minnesota plays their final three preseason games. Unless he suffers a setback, he'll be ready for opening night.
Martell Webster plays well off Wizards' bench 10-12-2013
Martell Webster G WAS
Martell Webster led the Wizards' reserves on Saturday with 15 points, including three 3-pointers. He chipped in three rebounds and one steal in 22 minutes but it's become increasingly clear that Trevor Ariza (nine points) will begin the season as the starting SF. It's worth mentioning that Ariza didn't rank in the top-100 in nine-cat fantasy value last year, in 26 minutes per game. Webster made the top-100, however, on the strength of 11.4 points, 1.8 triples, 3.9 rebounds, 0.7 steals and good percentages.
Taj Gibson leads Bulls w/ 18 pts, four blocks 10-12-2013
Taj Gibson F CHI
Taj Gibson racked up 18 points in 31 bench minutes vs. the Wizards, making 7-of-9 FGs and 4-of-6 FTs with eight boards, one steal and four blocked shots. Gibson came in averaging 16.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in Chicago's first two preseason games, so tonight's effort wasn't a fluke. He's taken on a bigger role with Joakim Noah (groin) unavailable but should get just enough points, rebounds and blocks to have late-round value this season.
Trevor Booker (knee) returns on Saturday 10-12-2013
Trevor Booker F UTH
Trevor Booker (knee) returned to action on Saturday with three points, six rebounds and one block in 18 minutes. It was encouraging to see him make it through the game without any obvious discomfort, as the last thing Washington needs is another big man on the injury list. Booker should have an increased role with Emeka Okafor (herniated disk) out indefinitely, but he's not worth targeting in average fantasy leagues.
Carmelo Anthony mentions rotator cuff damage 10-12-2013
Carmelo Anthony F NY
Carmelo Anthony said his sore shoulder was due partially to his rotator cuff and not just his labrum.

Marc Berman on Twitter
He said not having surgery on his shoulder was a risk, but it worked out because he's going to be ready for the season. Anthony will enter the season and the reigning scoring champ and have a shot to defend it even with Kevin Durant getting a ton of shots in OKC.
Beno Udrih getting rest on Saturday 10-12-2013
Beno Udrih G MEM
Beno Udrih will not play in Saturday's contest against the Celtics.

Ian Begley on Twitter
He's fine and the Knicks are resting their veterans in a back-to-back set. Udrih will compete with Pablo Prigioni for minutes behind Raymond Felton and isn't worth drafting in fantasy leagues.
Tyson Chandler sitting out on Saturday 10-12-2013
Tyson Chandler C DAL
Tyson Chandler will not play in Saturday's preseason game against the Celtics.

Ian Begley on Twitter
Move along, there's nothing to see here. Chandler is fine and the Knicks are just resting him in back-to-backs. He's been working on a jumper in training camp and could improve on his 10.4 points per game from last year. Consequently, that could hurt his stellar 63.8 percent from the field, though.
Raymond Felton not playing in Sat. game 10-12-2013
Raymond Felton G DAL
Raymond Felton will not play in Saturday's game.

Ian Begley on Twitter
It's just some rest on a back-to-back set and Felton is fine. He's had his usual weight loss entering the year and should be involved in the Knicks triple-happy gameplan this season.
Carmelo Anthony is resting on Saturday 10-12-2013
Carmelo Anthony F NY
Carmelo Anthony will not play in Saturday's preseason game.

Ian Begley on Twitter
There's nothing wrong with Melo and he's just getting some scheduled rest. Anthony should be ready to go for Thursday's preseason contest since there hasn't been any noteworthy news on his sore shoulder.
Kidd: Deron Williams may miss time in season 10-12-2013
Deron Williams G BKN
Jason Kidd raised the possibility of Deron Williams missing time in the regular season.

Stefan Bondy on Twitter
Williams still isn't cleared for contact and the team has been extremely cautious with him. He's had all sorts of problems with his ankles, including bone spurs last year. He's one of the riskiest players going off the board near the top of fantasy drafts.
Keith Bogans is sitting out on Saturday 10-12-2013
Keith Bogans G PHI
Keith Bogans (thumb) will not play on Saturday and could miss the next two weeks.

Sean Grande on Twitter
He sustained a thumb injury on Friday and the team will hold him out until he heals up. Bogans basically earned $5 million from the sign-and-trade over the summer, but won't be cashing in for fantasy owners.
Gerald Wallace will sit out on Saturday 10-12-2013
Gerald Wallace F BOS
Gerald Wallace will not play in Saturday's preseason game.

Sean Grande on Twitter
There is no report of an injury, so it's likely just some rest for the 31-year-old forward. Wallace has been impressing coach Brad Stevens and seems like a good bet for a bounce-back year.
Luc Richard Mbah a Moute dealing with knee 10-12-2013
Luc Mbah a Moute F PHI
Luc Richard Mbah a Moute has been bothered by knee and ankle injuries this preseason.

Jon Santiago on Twitter
Neither is considered serious, but LRMAM has been struggling through knee pain for much of his career. Mbah a Moute is off the radar in fantasy leagues.
Trevor Booker ready to return on Saturday 10-12-2013
Trevor Booker F UTH
Trevor Booker (knee) is available to play in Saturday's preseason game.

Wizards on Twitter
The game is in Brazil and Booker hasn't had any setbacks since the news of his shockwave therapy broke back in late September. He'll be in the rotation with Emeka Okafor (neck) out, but will just be there for depth.
Al Harrington out with a left quad strain 10-12-2013
Al Harrington F WAS
Al Harrington will not play on Saturday due to a left quad strain.

Wizards on Twitter
He had right knee issues to limit him to just 10 games last year, so this injury is unrelated. Harrington has aged quite a bit and he's no longer going to be counted on for 30 minutes per night. He'll help stretch the defense, but won't have enough consistency to matter in most fantasy leagues.
Derrick Rose won't need an MRI on knee 10-12-2013
Derrick Rose G CHI
Derrick Rose will not need an MRI on his left knee, according to executive vice president of basketball operations John Paxson.

K.C. Johnson on Twitter
"We know there's nothing structurally to be worried about. It's just a little soreness," Paxson said. He added that the team is being "ultra conservative" with Rose, so there's no need to totally panic. Rose isn't going to play Saturday, but hopefully he'll be able to give it a go on Wednesday to alleviate most concerns about his left knee.
Greg Oden to be cleared for 5-on-5 workouts 10-12-2013
Greg Oden C MIA
Greg Oden (knees) could be cleared for 5-on-5 workouts next week.

Mike Wallace on Twitter
It's a big step for Oden and he's trying to make his way on the court. Oden is also hoping to be ready for a preseason game, which suggests he could be ready to start the season. The Heat will obviously take it easy on him, so don't expect him to get more than 18 minutes per game until he can sustain some level of health for an extended period of time.
Joakim Noah will not play on Saturday 10-12-2013
Joakim Noah C CHI
Joakim Noah (groin) will not play on Saturday.

K.C. Johnson on Twitter
He's been sidelined with a groin issue and has yet to suit up for a preseason game. Noah is very active on the court, so that could be a contributing factor to his recent stretch of missing games. He should be ready for the opener, though.
Derrick Rose out Saturday with knee soreness 10-12-2013
Derrick Rose G CHI
Derrick Rose will not play in Saturday's preseason game due to left knee soreness.

K.C. Johnson on Twitter
The team said it's precautionary, but there's no way this news can be spun positively since it's to his surgically-repaired knee. Rose has said his knee had no soreness earlier this week, so perhaps his 23 minutes from Monday's action caused the issue. There haven't been any red flags until this one, so we'll be watching him very closely. Kirk Hinrich will start.
Tyler Zeller has an appendectomy Friday 10-12-2013
Tyler Zeller F BOS
Tyler Zeller had an appendectomy on Friday and has no timetable to return.

Plain Dealer
He was already dealing with a hip issue, but now his appendectomy issue will likely keep him out longer than that injury. Zeller's recovery could leak into the season, but he's still not worth targeting in most formats with the Cavs revamped frontcourt.
John Jenkins (back) won't travel for game 10-12-2013
John Jenkins G ATL
John Jenkins (lower back) won't travel for Sunday's preseason game.

Chris Vivlamore on Twitter
He doesn't sound like he's close to returning from his lower back pain. The Hawks have bumped Jenkins to the bench and he'll have a tough time providing fantasy value in standard leagues in that role.
Tyreke Evans (ankle) aims to return this week 10-12-2013
Tyreke Evans G NO
Tyreke Evans (ankle) won't play on Sunday but he hopes to return to the court this week.

NBA.com
He's specifically targeting Thursday's game in Tulsa vs. the Thunder. "It's a little tender when I land, but it's much better," said Evans, who is also having some difficulty making cuts. Losing time to mesh with his new team is unfortunate, but he's on pace to be fully ready for opening night.
Blake Griffin uncertain for next three games 10-12-2013
Blake Griffin F LAC
Blake Griffin (left knee) practiced on Friday but he isn't sure if he'll play in the Clippers' next three preseason games.

NBA.com
"In terms of an injury it's not really that bad," Griffin said. "I'm good with bone bruises. Me and bone bruises are on good terms. It's really about pain management." Doc Rivers said that neither he nor the Clippers' trainers are concerned about the injury, but a few precautionary DNPs in the preseason wouldn't be surprising.
Sixers coach praises Michael Carter-Williams 10-12-2013
Michael Carter-Williams G PHI
76ers coach Brett Brown said that Michael Carter-Williams was "exceptional" in Friday's exhibition, but he'd like him to push the pace more often.

Bucks County Courier Times
MCW has accumulated 16 assists and one turnover in three preseason games, a startling improvement from his 4.8 turnovers per game during Summer League. Fantasy owners should still anticipate poor FG percentages and high turnovers, but the rookie is poised for a nice year leading an up-tempo team whose sole mission is player development.
Patty Mills healthy, slimmed down for Spurs 10-12-2013
Patrick Mills G SA
Patty Mills lost weight this summer and has fully recovered from foot surgery, and his play has impressed Gregg Popovich.

San Antonio Express-News
Mills is under 6'0" and he's not a natural playmaker, averaging just 1.1 assists and 0.7 turnovers last year. He is a solid scorer who knocked down 40.0 percent of his 3-pointers last year, however, and he should surface (at least occasionally) as part of the Spurs' competitive backcourt rotation.
Cory Joseph favored for Spurs' backup PG job 10-12-2013
Cory Joseph G SA
Gregg Popovich said that Cory Joseph "probably has first dibs" on the Spurs' backup PG position.

San Antonio Express-News
Joseph played nearly as often in the D-League last year (26 games) as he did in the NBA (28 games), but Pop showed a lot of trust in him down the stretch. Fantasy owners shouldn't expect anything more than his averages in April last season -- 5.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 19 minutes per game.
Brandon Jennings (wisdom teeth) out Saturday 10-12-2013
Brandon Jennings G DET
Brandon Jennings (wisdom teeth) didn't travel with the Pistons for Saturday's game.

Keith Langlois on Twitter
Jennings is day-to-day with lingering pain. With Rodney Stuckey (finger surgery) also unavailable, there are copious minutes available for Will Bynum, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and (if he plays) Chauncey Billups.
Matt Barnes (calf) expected to practice soon 10-12-2013
Matt Barnes F LAC
Matt Barnes (calf) is expected to return to practice this week.

Dan Woike on Twitter
He won't be available for the Clippers this weekend, when they take on the Jazz, but it doesn't sound as though he'll be out much longer. Barnes is battling Jared Dudley for the SF job, but both guys will share minutes regardless of who starts.
Tyler Zeller sidelined after appendectomy 10-12-2013
Andrew Bynum C IND
Tyler Zeller had his appendix removed on Friday after being diagnosed with acute appendicitis.

John Michael on Twitter
Appendectomies are relatively straight-forward procedures, but all surgery has risks and the Cavaliers haven't provided a timetable for Zeller's recovery. If his absence extends into the regular season, there'd be a bit more breathing room for Anderson Varejao, Tristan Thompson, Anthony Bennett and possibly Andrew Bynum.
X-rays negative on Al Jefferson's ankle 10-12-2013
Al Jefferson C CHA
Al Jefferson has been diagnosed with a sprained right ankle and he left Friday's game in a walking boot while using crutches.

ESPN.com
X-rays were negative but Big Al could still be looking at an extended absence, and the Bobcats will re-evaluate him once the swelling goes down on Saturday. "It's sore as [expletive], real sore -- that's all I can tell you," Jefferson said as he left the arena. "It feels like I've got a heartbeat in it. All that matters is that [the X-ray is] negative." With Brendan Haywood (foot) out three months, Charlotte's frontcourt now revolves around Cody Zeller, Bismack Biyombo, Josh McRoberts and Anthony Tolliver.
Steve Novak scoreless in six minutes on Fri. 10-12-2013
Steve Novak F UTH
Steve Novak failed to score in six minutes off the Raptors bench on Friday.

TSN.ca
It wasn't the game Novak may have hoped for against his former team, the Knicks, and Toronto's second unit seemed out of sorts with a few exceptions like Tyler Hansbrough (nine points, four boards), Quincy Acy (nine points) and Dwight Buycks (10 points, two assists, two steals). Novak will have a bigger role in most games and his elite 3-point shooting makes him a viable specialist in some fantasy category-based formats.
D.J. Augustin, Dwight Buycks vie for minutes 10-12-2013
Dwight Buycks G TOR
D.J. Augustin and rookie Dwight Buycks are still battling for the Raptors' backup PG job.

TSN.ca
"It's close," said Dwane Casey. "They're different types of guards, both of them bring something different to the table that we need. It's probably going to be nip and tuck with those two guys all year, depending on the match-up." One or the other could have temporary value if Kyle Lowry gets hurt at some point, but in the meantime fantasy owners should avoid this "nip and tuck" backup position battle.
Jermaine O'Neal (back spasms) soon to return 10-12-2013
Jermaine O'Neal C GS
Jermaine O'Neal (back spasms) is expected to return for Tuesday's game in Beijing.

Contra Costa Times
The Warriors play the Lakers twice in China and J.O. should be in uniform for both of the games. Although this recent spate of back spasms was minor, it's a good reminder of O'Neal's perennially fragile health.
Harrison Barnes (foot) likely out in China 10-12-2013
Harrison Barnes F GS
Harrison Barnes (left foot inflammation) is not expected to play in the Warriors' two exhibitions in China this week.

Contra Costa Times
The injury isn't believed to be serious, and a team official told the Contra Costa Times that "Barnes does not have a condition, such as plantar fasciitis, and the ailment is something that just developed over time." Andre Iguodala and Klay Thompson will soak up extra playing time in any games Barnes misses, but ideally we'll see him on the court when the Warriors return from China.
Aldridge humming along in preseason win 10-12-2013
LaMarcus Aldridge F POR
LaMarcus Aldridge made it look easy with 20 points on 8-of-9 shooting, eight rebounds and two blocks in the Blazers' 96-86 preseason win over the Jazz on Friday. Aldridge is showing no effects of the quad injury that put a slight scare into folks this past week. Aldridge finished as a top 14-21 play in 9- and 8-cat leagues last season, and with injuries starting to creep in and per-minute plateaus in blocks and rebounding last season it's fair to wonder which direction the arrow will be pointing. Regression and new depth in Portland could be bummer.
Mo Williams productive off the bench 10-12-2013
Mo Williams G MIN
Mo Williams was productive off the bench in Friday's preseason win, scoring 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting with three rebounds, seven assists, one steal and one 3-pointer in 22 minutes. Williams' ankle doesn't appear to be an issue right now and owners can expect similar productivity when the regular season starts. As long as owners are realistic about his injury risks, Williams will be a safe late round value when on the floor.
Barton returns from concussion on Friday 10-12-2013
Will Barton G POR
Will Barton (concussion) returned to action in Friday's preseason game, starting at small forward and scoring eight points on 4-of-5 shooting with four rebounds, one steal and two blocks in 27 minutes. It's probably more accurate to say the Blazers started a three-guard lineup with Damian Lillard, Barton and Wes Matthews. Once the regular season rolls around Barton will be fighting for a rotation slot.
Burke quiet in 25 minutes against the Blazers 10-12-2013
Trey Burke G UTH
Trey Burke got handled by Damian Lillard in Friday's preseason loss to the Blazers, hitting just 3-of-10 shots (including a three) for seven points and five assists in 25 minutes. The Portland media all wrote about Lillard's defensive improvement after the game, but we're not entirely sure if it was Burke making last year's defensive liability look good or if Lillard really turned over a new leaf. Burke is '0 for the preseason' in terms of impressive outings, and while it's still early he could use a bigger outing to assuage owners' fears that he's in for a bumpy season.
Hayward scores 20 points in Jazz loss 10-12-2013
Gordon Hayward G UTH
Gordon Hayward scored 20 points on 5-of-11 shooting (2-of-2 3PTs, 8-of-11 FTs) with two rebounds, one assist and one steal over 26 minutes in Friday's preseason loss to the Blazers. No surprise, here. Hayward was ready to take the reins last year but it took the departure of Al Jefferson to force Ty Corbin's hand. Look for Hayward to build off last year's campaign and he will be a popular pick starting in the early middle rounds.
Evans starts and struggles against Portland 10-12-2013
Jeremy Evans F UTH
Jeremy Evans started down low for the Jazz in Friday's preseason loss to the Blazers, playing just 16 minutes on his way to four points, zero rebounds and one steal. Evans almost certainly going to be the first big off the bench for the Jazz this year, and it looks like Ty Corbin wanted to see what he could get if he split up Derrick Favors (seven points, nine boards, one steal, one block, 2-of-8 FGs) and Enes Kanter (11 points, six boards, no steals or blocks). The problem is that Evans is 200 pounds soaking wet and the other alternatives in Andris Biedrins and Rudy Gobert aren't great. Look for Favors and Kanter to get all they can eat.
Beasley posts solid line in limited minutes 10-12-2013
Michael Beasley F MEM
Michael Beasley posted a solid line in limited minutes during Friday's 86-75 preseason win over the Bobcats, scoring 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting with five rebounds, one steal and a 3-pointer in just 19 minutes. Maybe we should have had him on the fantasy radar since he's a capable, albeit often-troubled player on a squad with very little depth. It's going to take more than one good preseason game to get our recommendation to draft Beasley in standard formats, but word around the league is that he cares a little bit too much right now and that's better than the lackadaisical attitude we've seen in the past.
Zeller plays 26 minutes in start at PF 10-12-2013
Cody Zeller F CHA
Cody Zeller logged 26 minutes in another start at PF on Friday, scoring nine points on 3-of-8 shooting with five rebounds and three assists in the Bobcats' preseason loss to the Heat. Only two Bobcats hit double figures in anything tonight so owners should go a bit easier on Zeller for the light box, and if anything his value jumped up a tick once Al Jefferson left tonight's game with an ankle injury. The Bobcats are playing with the idea of Zeller and Josh McRoberts (six points, five boards, 20 minutes) in the same lineup, but chances are the former will have a timeshare advantage over the latter in a traditional look (assuming Big Al is around).
Biyombo could be needed if Big Al is hurt 10-12-2013
Bismack Biyombo F CHA
Bismack Biyombo played 12 minutes in Friday's preseason loss, scoring six points with four rebounds and two blocks. Biyombo missed his only field goal attempt but made all six of his free throws, but the story of the night for Charlotte was Al Jefferson's ankle injury. We're not entirely sure that Biyombo would be the direct beneficiary of any missed time, but if you're in a deeper league it's something to watch out for.
Afflalo scores 14 points in loss to Cavs 10-12-2013
Arron Afflalo G DEN
Arron Afflalo scored 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting (including a three) with two rebounds and two assists in the Magic's 110-105 preseason loss to the Cavs on Friday. Afflalo's upside is capped by some of the talent around him, but he profiles as a safe and solid late-round value. It looks like the hamstring issue is in the rear-view mirror for now.
Oladipo keeps his foot on the gas vs. Cavs 10-12-2013
Victor Oladipo G ORL
Victor Oladipo kept his foot on the gas with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting, two 3-pointers, eight rebounds, three assists and one block over 30 minutes off the bench in Friday's preseason loss. Oladipo is seemingly surrounded by obstacles to playing time in the form of Jameer Nelson (eight points, seven assists, 18 minutes) and Arron Afflalo (14 points, 18 minutes) among others, but he's already making it difficult to see the Magic taking him off the floor. A lock to play 28-33 mpg this year, it wouldn't be surprising if he can surpass that based on early reviews.
Harris posts inefficient, but active line 10-12-2013
Tobias Harris F ORL
Tobias Harris hit just 3-of-12 shots (including a three) for seven points but also added six rebounds, two assists and two blocks over 23 minutes off the bench in Friday's preseason loss. Harris didn't have the range tonight but he was still all over the floor, and barring something unforeseen he should play starter's minutes more or less all season long. It's going to take a middle round pick to secure Harris, and a few more games like this would help keep his price in an affordable range.
Dion Waiters scores 21 points in Cavs win 10-12-2013
Dion Waiters G CLE
Dion Waiters scored 21 points in the Cavs' preseason win over the Magic on Friday, hitting 8-of-13 shots (1-of-1 3PTs, 4-of-5 FTs) with two rebounds, three assists and two steals in 25 minutes. Waiters is getting rave reviews in most reports as his weight is down and his arrow is pointing up. He's profiling as a mid-to-late round pick that might shed the last half of that label by the last few weeks of draft season.
Clark continues to struggle for the Cavs 10-12-2013
Earl Clark F MEM
Earl Clark continued to struggle with his shot in Friday's preseason win, hitting just 1-of-7 shots for four points, three rebounds and one steal in 22 minutes. Luckily for Clark his competition in C.J. Miles (nine points, 3-of-8 FGs) and Alonzo Gee (DNP) are both known quantities and it's doubtful the Cavs are pushing for either of them to beat out their free agent acquisition. That said, Clark is a bit out of position at SF and he's not going to be given run of the yard -- he needs to start hitting shots or lose his shot at starter's minutes -- and he likely will.
No. 1 pick Bennett takes over fourth quarter 10-12-2013
Anthony Bennett F MIN
Anthony Bennett finally gave folks a glimpse of his potential in Friday's preseason win, scoring 14 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter while capping off an 18-point comeback. The conditioning issue isn't going away and we shouldn't read too much into the 'fourth quarter' angle since he only logged 22 minutes on the night. Still, he scored in a variety of ways inside and out, hitting two threes to go with four rebounds, a steal and a block. If you dropped him on your cheat sheets based on early preseason reports it's time to move him back up.
Valanciunas quiet in preseason win over NY 10-12-2013
Jonas Valanciunas C TOR
Jonas Valanciunas scored eight points on 3-of-4 shooting with five rebounds and no steals or blocks in 22 minutes during Friday's 100-91 preseason win over the Knicks. JV is a player to target in fantasy drafts assuming the price isn't ridiculous, but reports that he will 'quarterback the offense' and our own hype machine has probably been a bit overzealous. Don't get us wrong -- we still love him -- but until we see bona fide signs that Rudy Gay (4-of-11 FGs), DeMar DeRozan (7-of-15 FGs) and Kyle Lowry (4-of-8 FGs) are giving up touches to the big man, we're inclined to look at him somewhere toward the end of the early rounds and not a moment sooner.
Bargnani booed in his return to Toronto 10-12-2013
Andrea Bargnani C NY
Andrea Bargnani was booed in his return to Toronto for Friday's preseason game, and finished with 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting (no threes) and four rebounds in 22 minutes. Bargnani's value is tethered to his ability to block shots and hit threes and he's not doing either so far in the preseason. It's unclear how much the pneumonia from this summer is impacting him, and in general he'll be a big-time injury risk making him nothing more than a last round flier pick in 12-14 team leagues (and probably a wasted one at that).
Hardaway scores 13 points with three treys 10-12-2013
Tim Hardaway Jr. G NY
Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting (including three treys) to go with two rebounds in 30 minutes off the bench in Friday's preseason loss. Hardaway has earned a rotation spot and it appears he has a fan in Mike Woodson, but he'll need some injury help in front of him before he matters in most leagues.
Shumpert nears double-double vs. Raptors 10-12-2013
Iman Shumpert G NY
Iman Shumpert just missed a double-double in Friday's preseason loss, scoring 10 points on 4-of-11 shooting with nine rebounds, two assists and three steals. He missed all four of his 3-point attempts but this was another solid night, but for all of the talk about he and J.R. Smith competing for a starting job both guys' minutes will likely remain consistent however they're deployed. Shump looks headed for a 24-28 mpg role and will be a borderline guy to own in standard leagues.
