Manu Ginobili perfect in OT win over CSKA 10-09-2013
Manu Ginobili G SA
Manu Ginobili hit 4-of-4 shots, 3-of-3 3-pointers and 3-of-3 free throws on his way to 14 points, five rebounds, two assists, four steals and a block in an overtime win over CSKA Moscow on Wednesday. Wow. This was quite a game for Ginobili, who was the goat when the Spurs lost to the Heat in the Finals. We still don't trust him to do this on a regular basis during the regular season, but it's nice to know he still has this type of line in him.
Jon Leuer impressive in loss to Dallas 10-09-2013
Jon Leuer F DET
Big man Jon Leuer came off the bench and blew up for 17 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and a block on 7-of-12 shooting in 34 minutes on Wednesday. Don't get too excited. Marc Gasol was resting, while Ed Davis and Zach Randolph started. Leuer is playing for a spot in the rotation and looked great, but the fact remains that he's going to have a hard time getting enough minutes as long as Gasol, Randolph and Davis are all healthy in front of him.
Ed Davis double-doubles in start 10-09-2013
Ed Davis F POR
Ed Davis started for the Grizzlies on a Wednesday night when Marc Gasol was resting and had 10 points, 10 rebounds and a block. The Grizzlies love Davis and he played very well tonight, but when Gasol is playing, Zach Randolph will start, leaving Davis to fight for minutes off the bench. He might be worth a late flier, but his real value would come if Randolph goes down with an injury this season.
Gal Mekel gets another start for Dallas 10-09-2013
Gal Mekel G NO
Gal Mekel started at point guard for the Mavericks again on Wednesday and had four points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals on 2-of-9 shooting in 27 minutes. He's scored a total of six points on 3-of-14 shooting in his two preseason starts, and Monta Ellis was initiating the offense for much of the night. And once Jose Calderon and Devin Harris are back from their injuries. Mekel will become even more of an afterthought.
Samuel Dalembert plays well for Dallas 10-09-2013
Samuel Dalembert C DAL
Samuel Dalembert started at center Wednesday and hit 4-of-6 shots for 11 points, seven rebounds and two blocks in 20 minutes. He was knocking down some elbow jumpers and the Mavs would be thrilled to get this line from Dalembert every night. Once the end of your draft rolls around and the premier centers are gone, Dalembert could end up being a very useful pick up if he can stay healthy.
Dirk Nowitzki blisters Grizzlies for 20 10-09-2013
Dirk Nowitzki F DAL
Dirk Nowitzki hit 7-of-10 shots and two 3-pointers on his way to 20 points, six rebounds, three assists, a steal and two blocks in Wednesday's win over the Grizzlies. Yes it was preseason and just one game, but this was a vintage Dirk performance. His stock has been falling in fantasy drafts this season, but that could change after this one. If you can somehow get him in Round 3 he could be the steal of your draft - even with the supposed limit on minutes that is coming.
Vitor Faverini plays well in Celtics loss 10-09-2013
Vitor Faverani C BOS
Center Vitor Faverani came off the bench for 11 points, six rebounds, a 3-pointer and zero blocks on 5-of-9 shooting in 20 minutes on Wednesday. The Celtics are trying to find their starting center and Faverani looked good in this one. Kelly Olynyk, Brandon Bass and possibly Kris Humphries are all in the mix for the job, which will make it tough for any of them to offer much fantasy value. But after this one, Faverani should at least be on the radar in deeper leagues.
MarShon Brooks scores eight for Celtics 10-09-2013
Marshon Brooks G LAL
MarShon Brooks played through a migraine and hit 3-of-6 shots for eight points, one rebound, three assists and two blocks in 19 minutes off the Celtics bench on Wednesday. There's a log jam at shooting guard in Boston and we don't expect Brooks to be worth drafting in fantasy this season.
Jeff Green scores 10 off Celtics bench 10-09-2013
Jeff Green F ORL
Jeff Green came off the bench behind Gerald Wallace on Wednesday and hit 4-of-10 shots and two 3-pointers on his way to 10 points, three rebounds and two assists in 21 minutes. He hit just 2-of-7 shots for six points in his preseason debut, but we're still not worried. Whether he's coming off the bench or starting, the minutes and production should be there for Green, whose ability to hit threes, steal and block shots should make him a very valuable fantasy player this season.
Kelly Olynyk scores four in loss to NY 10-09-2013
Kelly Olynyk C BOS
Rookie Kelly Olynyk came off the bench and hit 2-of-5 shots for four points, one rebound and one block in Wednesday's preseason loss. If he steps it up in the preseason he could win the starting center job in Boston. But even if it happens, he'll likely be a low-end fantasy option this season, at best. Brandon Bass started at center tonight and had four points and four rebounds, along with five dimes.
Phil Pressey posts big line in loss 10-09-2013
Phil Pressey PG GS
Rookie point guard Phil Pressey came off the bench for 13 points, three rebounds, seven assists and two steals on 4-of-5 shooting in 28 minutes on Wednesday. This was his first preseason game but coach Brad Stevens has been impressed with Pressey in training camp, and was probably even more impressed with this performance. Avery Bradley should be the starter until Rajon Rondo returns to action, but it looks like Pressey will push him. Keep an eye on this position battle over the rest of the preseason.
Avery Bradley scores 12 in start at PG 10-09-2013
Avery Bradley G BOS
Avery Bradley started at point guard and had 12 points, three assists, two steals and two 3-pointers on 5-of-9 shooting in 21 minutes Wednesday. Bradley played reasonably well despite a sore left hand, but was outdone by teammate Phil Pressey. Bradley should be the starting point guard until Rajon Rondo is back from his knee surgery, but it's also possible that Pressey could push him for the job. Keep an eye on this situation.
Gerald Wallace scores 10 points in start 10-09-2013
Gerald Wallace F PHI
Gerald Wallace started over Jeff Green in Wednesday's preseason game and had 10 points, three rebounds and two assists in 16 minutes. Wallace has looked much better in a Boston uniform than he did in New Jersey last season, but it's early. We still expect Jeff Green to win the starting SF job, but it's clear that Brad Stevens is going to make him earn it.
World Peace scores 12 off Knicks bench 10-09-2013
Ron Artest F LAL
Metta World Peace, whom Carmelo Anthony still calls Ron Artest, came off the bench for 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and a 3-pointer on 5-of-9 shooting Wednesday. He looks pretty good in a Knicks uniform and could be ready for a solid season off the bench. Just beware that his shooting percentage usually does more harm than good in fantasy, but he shot it well tonight.
Carmelo Anthony scores seven in win 10-09-2013
Carmelo Anthony F NY
Carmelo Anthony played through his sore shoulder on Wednesday and had seven points, four rebounds and four assists on 3-of-9 shooting in 22 minutes. He also had two blocks, and it looks like he's ready to switch from PF to SF this season, with Andrea Bargnani likely the starter at power forward.
Hardway Jr. scores 16 in Knicks debut 10-09-2013
Tim Hardaway Jr. G ATL
Tim Hardaway came off the bench to hit 6-of-10 shots and three 3-pointers on his way to 16 points and three rebounds in 25 minutes on Wednesday. That's quite a debut for the rookie and it looks like he could potentially make some noise off the Knicks bench this season. He's also going to see a boost in minutes for as long as J.R. Smith is out. Smith is sidelined with a knee injury, and will then serve a five-game marijuana suspension once he's healthy enough to play. Hardaway's wrist injury looks fully healed.
Iman Shumpert perfect in preseason debut 10-09-2013
Iman Shumpert G CLE
Iman Shumpert shook off a shoulder injury and hit all seven of his shots off the bench Wednesday, including three 3-pointers, to finish with 18 points, three rebounds and three assists in 25 minutes. There has been some serious discussion about J.R. Smith starting over Shumpert once he's healthy and back from a five-game suspension, but Shumpert did a lot to help his own cause with this performance.
Andrea Bargnani scores 12 in Knicks debut 10-09-2013
Andrea Bargnani C BKN
Andrea Bargnani made his Knicks debut Wednesday and hit 3-of-8 shots for 12 points, three rebounds, zero 3-pointers and zero blocks in 19 minutes in a start at power forward. It could have been worse, but not much. Bargnani's value used to lie in his ability to block and hit 3-pointers, but his production in those stats has really tailed off in recent years. He's also constantly injured, meaning he shouldn't be targeted until late in drafts. But if he does win the starting power forward job, he's probably going to have a handful of big games for as long as he can stay healthy.
Victor Oladipo posts nice line in debut 10-09-2013
Victor Oladipo G OKC
Victor Oladipo came off the bench for the Magic on Wednesday and finished with 10 points, five rebounds, nine assists, four steals and just two turnovers in his preseason debut. Reports suggested that he looked like a point guard tonight and he could really hurt the value of Jameer Nelson (10 points, two assists) this season. Scoring might be an issue for Oladipo this season, but if he can keep the steals up and the TOs down, he's going to be a very fun player to own.
Tobias Harris plays well off Magic bench 10-09-2013
Tobias Harris F DET
Tobias Harris came off the bench Wednesday, finishing with 17 points, nine rebounds, two assists, a block and two 3-pointers in 25 minutes. It was a nice debut for Harris and we still think he'll start for the Magic, who gave Kyle O'Quinn (who struggled) and Moe Harkless the job tonight. Harris looks like a risk vs. reward fantasy play this season, but if he's in the starting lineup on opening night, he should also be in your fantasy lineup. Harkless had 11 points in 27 minutes, and it looks like he and Harris are fighting for a starting job.
Nikola Vucevic plays well for Magic 10-09-2013
Nikola Vucevic C ORL
Nikola Vucevic hit 6-of-13 shots 17 points, nine rebounds and a block in 28 minutes on Wednesday. It looks like he's picking up right where he left off and he should make for a solid fantasy center again this season.
Jason Smith quiet on Wednesday 10-09-2013
Jason Smith F WAS
Jason Smith came off the bench for two points, one rebound and a block in eight minutes of Wednesday's preseason win. He struggled in his previous game with a similar line after going for 12 points and five boards in 25 minutes of the season opener. He's the favorite to start at center for the Hornets, but Greg Stiemsma got the start tonight, and was also quiet with just two points and two boards.
Ryan Anderson hits four triples in win 10-09-2013
Ryan Anderson F HOU
Ryan Anderson hit just 4-of-12 shots, but all four were 3-pointers and he finished with 12 points, eight rebounds and two assists in Wednesday's game. He had 12 points, six boards and two more threes in his other preseason game, and it looks like he should have a good season. There were some concerns about his mental state after the suicide of his girlfriend over the summer, but he seems to be dealing with it pretty well. It's important to keep in mind that he's started at power forward in the two games, while Anthony Davis has been getting the call at center. If they choose to go with Greg Stiemsma or Jason Smith at center, Anderson could come off the bench.
Brian Roberts playing well for Pelicans 10-09-2013
Brian Roberts G CHA
Brian Roberts started at SG and played well for a second straight game after missing the preseason opener with an ankle injury, finishing Wednesday's game with 16 points, three boards, four assists, two steals and a 3-pointer on 5-of-9 shooting. He had 17 points and four dimes in his previous game, but should struggle to play this well in the regular season if Tyreke Evans and Eric Gordon are healthy. He looks like the backup point guard for Jrue Holiday, meaning he would make for a possible last-round flier as a handcuff for Holiday's owners.
Anthony Davis destroying preseason 10-09-2013
Anthony Davis F NO
Anthony Davis blew up for 29 points, nine rebounds, one assist, two steals and four blocks in 31 minutes of Wednesday's impressive preseason win. He hit 9-of-20 shots and 11-of-11 free throws, and has scored 21 or more points (with 19 boards and 7 blocks) in all three preseason games thus far. He was dominant tonight and the hype machine is fully rolling. If you want to make sure you get him, it will likely require a second-round pick. He could fall into the third round in some drafts, but will also go late in Round 1 in others. If he can stay healthy, it looks like he's primed for a monster year.
Jonas Valanciunas quiet in loss to Wolves 10-09-2013
Jonas Valanciunas C TOR
Jonas Valanciunas hit 4-of-7 shots for nine points, five rebounds, a steal and a block in 27 minutes of Wednesday's preseason loss. The good news is that he only committed three fouls after fouling out of his previous game. If he can stay out of foul trouble, he's going to be a fun center to own this season, despite tonight's lackluster line.
DeRozan scores 17, doesn't hit a 3-pointer 10-09-2013
DeMar DeRozan G TOR
DeMar DeRozan hit 6-of-7 shots in Wednesday's preseason game, but didn't attempt a 3-pointer, finishing with 17 points, one rebound, two assists and one steal in 23 minutes. There's been a lot of talk about him improving his 3-point shooting, but we didn't see it happen tonight. He's going to score a lot of points, but the knock on him has always been a lack of overall production. He still has time to improve on that prior to the season, but tonight looked like more of the same ol' DeRozan.
Gorgui Dieng returns from ankle sprain 10-09-2013
Gorgui Dieng C MIN
Rookie big man Gorgui Dieng played 12 minutes to finish with two points and two rebounds in 12 minutes of Wednesday's preseason game. He was injured in a scrimmage a few weeks ago and it looks like he should be ready for opening night, although he's not expected to have any fantasy value.
Kevin Love scores 20 in Wolves 10-09-2013
Kevin Love F CLE
Kevin Love hit 6-of-14 shots, a 3-pointer and 7-of-8 free throws on his way to 20 points, nine rebounds and a steal in 26 minutes in Wednesday's preseason win over the Raptors. This is a good start for Love, who made it through just 18 games and hit just 35.2 percent from the floor while dealing with the after-effects of a broken shooting hand last year. His shooting should be much better this season and he is expected to return first-round value if he can stay healthy.
Nicolas Batum improving from concussion 10-09-2013
Nicolas Batum G CHA
Nicolas Batum is showing improvement in his concussion symptoms and plans to fly with the team to Boise for Friday's exhibition game.

Joe Freeman on Twitter
There are no indications that he'll play in that game, but the fact he was at practice on Wednesday and want to travel Friday are both good signs that his concussion was a minor one.
Report: Odom going to NY to meet w/ teams 10-09-2013
Lamar Odom F NY
TMZ is reporting that Lamar Odom is flying to New York in order to meet with some NBA teams that may have interest in signing him.
The report goes on to say that he's got documentation and proof that he is clean and sober, which would go a long to getting him back in the league, if true. This is happening on the same day his attorney pleaded not guilty to Odom's recent DUI charge. It will be interesting to watch this story develop, as it seemed likely Odom's NBA career was over a few weeks ago.
Kevin Martin leaves with Achilles injury 10-09-2013
Kevin Martin G SA
Kevin Martin played just six minutes and missed the second half of the Timberwolves preseason game on Wednesday due to a sore right Achilles heel.

Timberwolves PR on Twitter
He was reportedly held out for precautionary reasons, but it's impossible to predict how long an injury like this could linger. Keep an eye on his status for his next preseason game and going forward.
Redick, Barnes still not practicing 10-09-2013
J.J. Redick G LAC
J.J. Redick (quad) and Matt Barnes (calf) are not practicing with Clippers on Wednesday.

Brad Turner on Twitter
Redick is day-to-day and the early favorite to start at shooting guard, while Barnes is also day-to-day, and expected to come off the bench.
Brandan Wright (shoulder) out Wednesday 10-09-2013
Brandan Wright F MEM
Brandan Wright will miss Wednesday's game due to a sore left shoulder.

Earl K. Sneed on Twitter
He bulked up over the summer hoping to be able to bang with opposing big men and was coming off a big game against the Pelicans on Monday. This is probably a precautionary move in order to protect their second-string center.
Warriors waive G Cameron Jones 10-09-2013
Cameron Jones SG GS
Warriors waived came invitee guard Cameron Jones Wednesday.
He never had much of a shot at making the team and could head to Europe to play this season. The Warriors still have 17 players on the roster, so more cuts are coming.
Lazar Hayward out with respiratory infection 10-09-2013
Lazar Hayward F NO
Lazar Hayward will not play for the Pelicans on Wednesday due to a respiratory infection.

Sean Kelley on Twitter
He's trying to make the team, but this isn't the start he was looking for.
Kenyon Martin resting up for 'real show' 10-09-2013
Kenyon Martin F MIL
Kenyon Martin says he's resting during Wednesday's preseason game in preparation for the "real show."

Kenyon Martin on Twitter
He says he's healthy and ready to go for the real season, but his first injury could be just around the corner. It's hard to see him having much fantasy value given the fact he should be playing limited minutes.
No timetable on Kobe, but no setbacks 10-09-2013
Kobe Bryant G LAL
Kobe Bryant still isn't interested in giving a timetable on when we might see him play this season, but he also says he's pain free and needs three weeks to get in shape once he starts ramping up his activity.

Mike Trudell on Twitter
Kobe hasn't done much running yet and says he hasn't exactly been eating healthy, but it sounds like he might be ready to start going harder. And we're not sure we're buying that he hasn't been eating properly, as this is Kobe Bryant we're talking about. As the camel would say, guess what day it is two weeks and six days from today? October 29, when the Lakers play the Clippers on opening night. They also play the Warriors the following day, which would put Bryant at the exact three-week timeframe he spoke of. We're not expecting Bryant or the Lakers to come out and say whether or not he's playing on opening night any time soon, and the L.A. media seems torn on whether he's probable or doubtful for the opener. Go ahead and pencil him in as a game-time decision for both of those contests.
Jordan Crawford out on Wednesday 10-09-2013
Jordan Crawford G CHI
Jordan Crawford is not with the Celtics for Wednesday's preseason game against the Knicks due to a death in the family.

Jason Jones on Twitter
Our condolences go out to Crawford and his family. He's going to get a lot of minutes at shooting guard and could be worth a late-round flier in fantasy this season. But if you are thinking about going there, just make sure your team's field goal percentage can handle it. He shot 41.5 percent from the floor in 27 games for the Celtics last season.
Carl Landry doubtful Thursday w/ quad injury 10-09-2013
Carl Landry PF PHI
Carl Landry is doubtful for Thursday's preseason game due to a quad injury.

Jason Jones on Twitter
That may explain why he didn't play on Monday night. Landry will be battling Jason Thompson and Patrick Patterson for minutes this season, which isn't great news for any of the power forwards.
MarShon Brooks iffy Wednesday w/ illness 10-09-2013
Marshon Brooks G LAL
MarShon Brooks missed Wednesday's shootaround and is questionable for the preseason game against the Knicks.

A. Sherrod Blakely on Twitter
Brooks isn't expected to have a huge role in Boston, but given how depleted the roster is, anything is possible.
Chalmers loses weight, moving faster 10-09-2013
Mario Chalmers G MEM
Heat guard Mario Chalmers changed his diet and quickly lost 10 pounds over the summer.

South Florida Sun-Sentinel
Chalmers and LeBron James both say he is much faster than he was last season, which can only help his game. Chalmers will have fantasy value this season, but should be looked at as a No. 2 point guard given the way the Heat's offense runs through the LeBron and Dwyane Wade.
Beasley, Haslem, Birdman doubtful Thurs. 10-09-2013
Michael Beasley F MIL
Michael Beasley (calf), Udonis Haslem (knee) and Chris Andersen (foot) are all doubtful to play on Thursday against the Pistons.

South Florida Sun-Sentinel
"It's day-to-day," Erik Spoelstra said. "Everybody's progressing. Everybody was able to get on the court (Wednesday) and do something." In good news for the Heat, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James are expected to play against Detroit.
Wes Johnson (foot) sitting out practice 10-09-2013
Wesley Johnson F LAC
Wes Johnson (foot) missed Wednesday's practice.

Dave McMenamin on Twitter
He received electro stimulation on the injury and remains day-to-day. Xavier Henry figures to get more run for as long as Johnson is out.
Lakers waive Gadzuric, Boateng 10-09-2013
Dan Gadzuric C LAL
Lakers big men waive camp invitees Dan Gadzuric and Eric Boateng.

Dave McMenamin on Twitter
That takes their roster down to 17 players, meaning at least two more cuts are coming.
Joel Freeland questionable for Wednesday 10-09-2013
Joel Freeland F POR
Joel Freeland (back), LaMarcus Aldridge (quad) and Mo Williams (ankle) are all questionable for Wednesday's preseason game against the Suns.

Pinwheel Empire on Twitter
Nicolas Batum (concussion), C.J. McCollum (foot) and Earl Watson (calf) have all been ruled out with their injuries.
Rashard Lewis feeling good, wants to play 10-09-2013
Rashard Lewis F DAL
Rashard Lewis is feeling better than he has in a few years and hopes to crack the Heat's rotation this season.

Miami Herald
Lewis has dealt with chronic arthritis in both knees, but threw down a monster dunk in practice recently, something he hasn't done in about two years. "He looks healthy, he's running and it has shown in his ability to shoot the ball and around the rim," LeBron James said. Lewis is now 33 years old and will have to compete with James Jones, Roger Mason and others for playing time, and it appears there's a decent chance he at least contributes this season. But we still wouldn't think about drafting him in fantasy.
Dwyane Wade wants to play Thursday 10-09-2013
Dwyane Wade G CHI
Dwyane Wade, who is questionable for the entire preseason due to conditioning concerns, is planning to play on Thursday against the Pistons, according to Turner Sports' Ethan J. Skolnick.

Ethan J. Skolnick on Twitter
Wade's stock has been dropping quickly in fantasy leagues due to constant injury concerns, so seeing him play in a preseason game or two might ease our fears. And if you can get him late in Round 2 or any time in Round 3, he should at least be a value pick, even with the missed games we know are coming.
Cheeks: Rodney Stuckey best defensively 10-09-2013
Rodney Stuckey G IND
Mo Cheeks made a point to call out Rodney Stuckey for his stellar defensive play in training camp, saying he was the best on the team.

Vincent Goodwill on Twitter
That's going to go a long way in Stuckey's bid to win the starting shooting guard job over Chauncey Billups, and it looks like Stuckey's the favorite to win the job at this point.
Eric Gordon still on target to start season 10-09-2013
Eric Gordon G HOU
Eric Gordon's conditioning exercises are reportedly going well and he hasn't suffered any setbacks since it was announced he would miss a couple weeks of the preseason.

New Orleans Times-Picayune
"He's getting some reps in with the guys, so we're looking at that same (two week) timetable,'' coach Monty Williams said after shootaround on Wednesday. There are some serious trust issues with Gordon after his injury-plagued career, but if he is cleared to start the season, he could be a very good value pick.
Nene says his knee and foot still bother him 10-09-2013
Nene Hilario F HOU
Nene said that his "knee is still sore [and his] foot still hurts a little bit," and he hopes to play limited minutes the rest of the preseason.

CSN Washington
He dropped 19 points in 22 minutes on Tuesday and seemed to think that even that was too much playing time. "I don't want to get sore, get hurt," he said. "I still have a couple of issues. Just because I feel better, they think I feel great but they're wrong. We need to reduce a couple minutes." This is a disappointing (if predictable) update which dims the glowing offseason reports about his health, and Nene remains a high-risk pick due to injuries.
Prosecutors drop case against Ty Lawson 10-09-2013
Ty Lawson G SAC
Prosecutors have dropped their domestic violence charges against Ty Lawson.

A spokeswoman for the District Attorney's Office said, "Based on our continued investigation and developments after the filing of the cases, we dismissed the cases in the interest of justice." This is a timely vindication for Lawson, who enters the season healthy and with a clean slate.
No fracture in Ersan Ilyasova's right ankle 10-09-2013
Ersan Ilyasova F PHI
A second round of X-rays on Ersan Ilyasova's right ankle came back negative, but the Bucks have no timetable for his return.

Charles Gardner on Twitter
Ilyasova was unable to put any weight on the ankle after Tuesday's exhibition and it's possible that he'll have an MRI in the coming days. We're listing him as day-to-day until the Bucks provide some more information. John Henson, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Ekpe Udoh (knee) would gain the most if Ersan misses extended time, but Henson is the only guy worth considering as a flier pick.
Jonas Jerebko held out Tuesday as precaution 10-09-2013
Jonas Jerebko F BOS
Jonas Jerebko was held out as a precaution on Tuesday, but he'll be part of Detroit's rotation for Thursday's exhibition.
Jerebko will return but Charlie Villanueva will get a day of planned rest, according to Mo Cheeks. The two veterans are vying for backup forward minutes in a crowded rotation, a situation custom-made to scare away fantasy owners.
Will Bynum out Tuesday w/ minor hip injury 10-09-2013
Will Bynum PG ATL
Will Bynum sat out Tuesday's game due to a minor hip injury.

Keith Langlois on Twitter
He hurt himself during Monday's practice and was held out as a precaution. Bynum averaged 9.8 points, 0.4 triples, 3.6 assists and 0.7 steals last season, numbers which he'd be lucky to duplicate in Detroit's deep backcourt in 2013-14.
Mike Woodson challenges Iman Shumpert 10-09-2013
Iman Shumpert G CLE
Mike Woodson challenged Iman Shumpert to be a more "complete" offensive player.

NY Post
"Defensively he's erratic at times, but I love his energy," Woodson said. "Offensively, he's still trying to find his way ... How to run a team when you got the basketball in your hand. How to play pick-and-roll basketball. How to play without the ball. There's a lot of things he has to figure out at this level." Shumpert's size and defense may keep him in the starting lineup when J.R. Smith (knee) returns from injury and suspension, but there's a position battle looming at SG.
Caldwell-Pope struggles in Pistons debut 10-09-2013
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope G DET
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored two points on 1-of-12 shooting in Tuesday's game vs. Maccabi Haifa. It wasn't all bad. He played 25 minutes off the bench and attempted a team-high six 3-pointers, while adding seven rebounds, two steals and one block. Mo Cheeks said recently that the starting SG job will go to Rodney Stuckey or Chauncey Billups on opening night, but KCP can still emerge as a solid rotation player even if he doesn't overtake the veterans for a starting job.
Doron Lamb (ankle) resumes practicing 10-09-2013
Doron Lamb G DAL
Doron Lamb (sprained ankle) participated in the second of Orlando's two practices on Monday.

Orlando Sentinel
He was held out of the morning session as a precaution, but it sounds like he'll be available for Wednesday's preseason game. Even if Victor Oladipo spends most of his time as a PG this season, there aren't many minutes available for Lamb while Arron Afflalo is healthy.
Kyle Lowry (hand) ready to go for exhibition 10-09-2013
Kyle Lowry G TOR
Kyle Lowry's minor hand injury won't prevent him from playing on Wednesday.

Josh Lewenberg on Twitter
He banged his hand during Tuesday's practice, but Dwane Casey dismissed the injury as a "boo boo." As usual, Lowry's health is the key determinant of his fantasy value - he averaged 11.6 points, 1.5 threes, 4.7 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 1.4 steals last season, but he also missed 14 games.
Pablo Prigioni to start at SG on Wednesday 10-09-2013
Pablo Prigioni PG HOU
Pablo Prigioni will start at SG alongside Raymond Felton for Wednesday's exhibition. Mike Woodson said he wants a 'big' player alongside Felton, and Iman Shumpert is the favorite to land the job, but Shump has been limited by minor injuries and hasn't had enough practice time to jump in at SG. Prigioni made an almost seamless transition to the NBA last year, posting solid per-minute 3-pointers, assists and steals, but he's not a fantasy option in average leagues.
Shumpert 'has a jump' on Smith for SG job 10-09-2013
J.R. Smith G CLE
Mike Woodson will give J. R. Smith a chance to start at SG when he's healthy, but Iman Shumpert "has a jump" on Smith for the job.

Al Iannazzone on Twitter
Shumpert's few nagging injuries have healed and he's ready to go for the preseason, whereas Smith is recovering from knee surgery and facing a five-game suspension. Smith averaged 18.1 points in 33 minutes off the bench last year and will hold value regardless of where he begins the game.
Josh McRoberts plays 10 minutes off bench 10-09-2013
Josh McRoberts F MIA
Josh McRoberts (toe) played 10 minutes off the bench on Tuesday, scoring three points with one rebound and one block.

Charlotte Observer
Cody Zeller was impressive and shows no signs of ceding the PF spot to the veteran McRoberts, who is still regaining his conditioning after a training camp mostly spent rehabbing his toe. In a curious preseason wrinkle, McBob even played a bit of SF alongside Anthony Tolliver and Bismack Biyombo.
Omer Asik (calf) aiming to return on Sunday 10-09-2013
Omer Asik C NO
Omer Asik (strained calf) hopes to return in time for Sunday's game vs. the Pacers in Taipei, Taiwan.

Houston Chronicle
This rules him out for Thursday's exhibition in Manila, which is sure to have a wild and festive atmosphere. Asik's injury isn't serious enough to alter his season outlook, but the arrival of Dwight Howard has eclipsed any fantasy appeal built up during the 2012-13 season.
Garcia, Reggie Williams both iffy for Thurs. 10-09-2013
Francisco Garcia G HOU
Francisco Garcia (groin) practiced on Wednesday and is questionable to play in Thursday's first-ever NBA game in the Philippines. Reggie Williams is also questionable to play due to a groin injury, while Omer Asik (strained calf) has already been ruled out vs. the Pacers on Thursday.
Camby out 2+ weeks w/ torn plantar fascia 10-09-2013
Marcus Camby C HOU
Marcus Camby has a torn plantar fascia and will miss at least another two weeks.

Houston Chronicle
"I'm trying to do whatever I can to avoid surgery," Camby said. "We're just going to rehab it and see how it goes in the next two weeks and take it from there. We don't want to rehab it and nurse it and have it still be lingering." With foot surgery still a possibility, and minutes at center dominated by Dwight Howard and Omer Asik, there's no silver lining for the 39-year-old's fantasy outlook.
Dwyane Wade's conditioning a work in progress 10-09-2013
Dwyane Wade G CHI
Dwyane Wade will gauge his conditioning on a day-to-day basis before deciding whether he'll play in any preseason games.
"You want to play in some games, get that rhythm, play with your teammates," Wade said. "But we've got seven [preseason games] left, so there's plenty of time." He rested his body to get healthy this summer and one of the side-effects is that his conditioning is a work in progress. The veteran knows how to pace himself to be ready for opening night, and his absence in exhibitions isn't cause for concern.
Amare Stoudemire aims for preseason return 10-09-2013
Amar'e Stoudemire F MIA
Mike Woodson confirmed that Amare Stoudemire (knees) has had no setbacks and could play in the Knicks' final two preseason games.

NY Post
"If he can play 10 minutes a game in the exhibition season, we'll play him," said Woodson. "That's providing he doesn't have any setbacks and continues the pace he's on." Stoudemire will likely have a 20-minute limit whenever he takes the court, and there's no cause for excitement until he's at least cleared to run at full speed and scrimmage.
Barea, Cunningham likely to play Wednesday 10-09-2013
J.J. Barea G DAL
J.J. Barea (personal) and Dante Cunningham (flu) are likely to make their preseason debuts on Wednesday.
Both players practiced on Tuesday and there are no concerns about their health heading into the regular season. The Wolves' exhibition schedule continues vs. the Raptors in Toronto on Wednesday evening, followed by a trip to Sioux Falls, South Dakota for a game vs. the Bucks.
Ersan Ilyasova can't put any weight on ankle 10-09-2013
Ersan Ilyasova F PHI
Ersan Ilyasova couldn't put any weight on his sprained ankle after Tuesday's game, and Larry Drew said the injury appeared "pretty severe."

Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel
Further tests are scheduled for Wednesday so we should have an update on his status before long. "I had twisted that ankle before but never that bad," Ilyasova said. "I can't even step on it. It hurts that much. But I will get a lot of treatment and try to get back. It's really disappointing." John Henson, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Ekpe Udoh (knee) would gain the most if Ersan misses extended time with this injury, but Henson is the only guy worth considering as a flier pick.
JaVale McGee takes 13 shots in loss to Lakers 10-09-2013
JaVale McGee C GS
JaVale McGee shot 6-of-13 from the field in Tuesday's loss to the Lakers, finishing with 14 points, seven boards and three blocks in 28 minutes. Last year, his season high for shots in a game was just 12, so coach Brian Shaw made good on his claim that he would try and get the ball in to McGee more. The Nuggets seem committed to him a lot more this year, so he could be a threat to score in the low teens while making a push for the blocking crown this year.
Kobe Bryant feels he's ahead of schedule 10-09-2013
Kobe Bryant G LAL
Kobe Bryant (Achilles) said he feels like he's ahead of schedule in a courtside interview on Tuesday night.

Mike Trudell on Twitter
"I feel very fortunate to be at this stage. I feel like I'm ahead of schedule," Bryant said. He still doesn't have a timetable to return and his actual schedule isn't really clear either. Bryant is still questionable for opening night, but the team has been running a lot of their offense on the wing, which could be a move to help prepare for Mamba not being ready. While we don't know if he'll play in the opener, it seems like he won't be close to 100 percent.
