Alec Burks comes off the bench for 14 points 10-08-2013
Alec Burks G UTH
Alec Burks scored 14 points off the bench on Tuesday, adding three boards, four assists and one steal on 6-of-10 shooting in 22 minutes.

Salt Lake Tribune
"We want to see Alec coming off the bench right now - see if he gives us some punch off the bench," coach Ty Corbin said before the game. The move came as a bit of a surprise, but it's really not a bad idea. Burks did play some point guard last season and showed he's capable of distributing the ball, which could help him become the main cog with the second unit. Burks is still a player we like as a possible late-round flier at the end of standard drafts. For what it's worth, Richard Jefferson scored just four points in 22 minutes in the start.
Enes Kanter scores 10 points in 20 minutes 10-08-2013
Enes Kanter C OKC
Enes Kanter scored 10 points in 20 minutes against the Warriors on Tuesday, adding four boards, one assist and one steal. He said earlier on Tuesday that his surgically-repaired left shoulder is stronger than his right and tonight's effort supports that claim. Kanter has nose for rebounding and seems like a good bet to average a double-double this season. He's a high-upside pick in the middle rounds.
Derrick Favors scores 10 with 14 boards 10-08-2013
Derrick Favors F UTH
Derrick Favors pulled down 14 boards against the Warriors on Tuesday to go with 10 points, one assist and three blocks in 25 minutes. He was a man possessed to start the game, grabbing eight rebounds in the first quarter. Favors has been handed the keys to the interior offense now that Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson are gone, so his ceiling is extremely high. He made both free throws tonight, and since he made 76.2 percent of his attempts in his April games, there's a glimmer of hope he can improve on his 68.8 percent on the season. If you want him, be prepared to reach for the 22-year-old big man.
X-rays negative on Ersan Ilyasova's ankle 10-08-2013
Ersan Ilyasova F PHI
X-rays on Ersan Ilyasova's right ankle were negative following Tuesday night's game.

C.F. Gardner on Twitter
The team will have a second X-ray on Wednesday to confirm this initial test. Ersan's ankle sprain did not look good at all and he needed assistance to the locker room. Considering the team will conduct a second X-ray to make absolutely sure there isn't a fracture, it would appear he'd be headed for an MRI to check for ligament damage, as well. Ilyasova could miss time with this injury, so John Henson gets speculative bump until the team gives him a prognosis to return before the season starts. Owners that were planning on taking Ersan might want to bump him down until further notice.
Greg Monroe's hamstring looks fine Tuesday 10-08-2013
Greg Monroe C MIL
Greg Monroe didn't seem bothered by his hamstring on Tuesday with 13 points, six boards, four assists, three steals and two turnovers on 4-of-5 shooting. The Pistons attacked the basket early, scoring 18 of their first 21 points in the paint with their frontcourt accounting for 17 of those 21. Monroe is a bit of a forgotten man with Andre Drummond stealing the spotlight and Josh Smith coming over from Atlanta. He's still a threat to score in the teens and provide a variety of stats, so he holds nice value in the middle rounds.
The Andre Drummond hype continues Tuesday 10-08-2013
Andre Drummond C DET
Andre Drummond lived up to his offseason hype on Tuesday, scoring 17 points with nine boards, two assists and three blocks in 25 minutes. He went up against Maccabi Haifa tonight, so the competition level still isn't quite up to what he'll see in a few weeks. Drummond looked like he was playing against high-school kids in summer league and the team has given every indication they're going to lean in the freakish big man. Taking free throw issues out of the equation, he has a shot to be a top-five center this season.
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist shoots 1-of-6 Tuesday 10-08-2013
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist F CHA
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist didn't shake his shooting woes in his preseason debut, making 1-of-6 from the field for three points with four boards and two turnovers. Mark Price has been coaching him up, so he's probably not happy about MKG's performance, small sample size notwithstanding. He's one of the worst jump-shooting wings in the NBA and it's one tall order for Price to get the issue turned around. We're not touching Kidd-Gilchrist in drafts. Meanwhile, Jeffery Taylor scored nine points and five boards on Tuesday, and he's going to pressure for MKG's job for much of the season since he's impressed coach Steve Clifford so far.
Cody Zeller scores nine points in debut 10-08-2013
Cody Zeller C CHA
Cody Zeller scored nine points with five boards, one assist, two steals and one block in 24 minutes on Tuesday. He shot 4-of-7 from the field and obviously didn't look nearly as dominant as he did in Las Vegas Summer League. Josh McRoberts didn't check in until the fourth quarter, so McBob is either still dealing with his toe issue or the team wanted to get Zeller some minutes. He's been the first rookie big man off the board in most fantasy drafts.
Dennis SchrÂ"der hands out seven dimes 10-08-2013
Dennis Schroder G ATL
Dennis SchrÂ"der handed out seven assists with nine points and one 3-pointer in Tuesday's win over the Bobcats. He took a team-high 15 shots, making four of them in 27 minutes. SchrÂ"der is a spark plug and brings an exciting brand of basketball over from Germany. He'll be one of the most fun rookies to watch, but he doesn't have enough value to draft in standard leagues just yet.
Jefferson goes for seven and nine on Tuesday 10-08-2013
Al Jefferson C IND
Al Jefferson had seven points, nine boards, two assists, two blocks and one turnover in 26 minutes on Tuesday. He had a sore hamstring on Monday and didn't finish practice, so his game tonight alleviates most concerns about his health. Jefferson is safe to draft at the end of the first round and could be a 20-10 guy to go with a handful of blocks.
Elton Brand gets 30 minutes, has seven blocks 10-08-2013
Elton Brand PF PHI
Elton Brand blocked seven shots in 30 minutes against the Bobcats on Tuesday, adding four points, eight boards and one steal. He played just 21.2 minutes per game last season, so the uptick in minutes tonight is a surprise. The blocks were even a bigger surprise, but the Bobcats did lead the NBA in blocks allowed per game at 6.9. The acquistion of Brand in the offseason looks to be an important piece for the Hawks with Gustavo Ayon (shoulder) out for a while. If you miss the boat on big men in your draft, there are worse options to take than Brand in deeper formats.
Mike Scott scores 19 off the bench Tuesday 10-08-2013
Mike Scott F ATL
Mike Scott played 28 minutes off the bench on Tuesday, scoring a team-high 19 points with six boards and two 3-pointers against the Bobcats. Gustavo Ayon is going to miss up to two months with a rotator-cuff injury, so there are some minutes up for grabs up front for the Hawks. Considering Elton Brand is 34 years old, Scott could see enough minutes to matter in deeper fantasy leagues.
Nene scores 19 points in Tuesday's game 10-08-2013
Nene Hilario F HOU
Nene shot 8-of-11 from the field for 19 points with four boards and one steal in 22 minutes against the Nets on Tuesday. He enters the season with a rare clean bill of health and will be called upon quite a bit in the post with Emeka Okafor (neck) out indefinitely. Nene should be considered a high-risk, high-reward pick in the second half of standard drafts.
Kevin Seraphin scores 13 points off the bench 10-08-2013
Kevin Seraphin F IND
Kevin Seraphin came off the bench on Tuesday and had 13 points, seven boards, one assist, one steal and one block in 33 minutes. The team has spent some extra time with Seraphin in practice and they clearly want him to get over his struggles from last year. He still doesn't look completely comfortable in the post, but he'll still have a few weeks to work out the kinks before the season starts. Jan Vesely got the start and fouled out in 28 minutes, posting three points, 12 boards, one assist, one steal and block. The team has a deadline at the end of this month to extend Vesely, so they're going to want to get a good look at him. Seraphin is a solid late-round pick in standard leagues.
Tyshawn Taylor looks good off the bench 10-08-2013
Tyshawn Taylor G NO
Tyshawn Taylor had a positive outing on Tuesday scoring a team-high 16 points with six assists and one steal in 34 minutes against the Wizards. Taylor turned in a nice summer league back in July, ranking fifth among Orlando participates with 16.8 points per game. Shaun Livingston had just four points in 19 minutes tonight and the two will compete for the backup role behind Deron Williams (ankle). Livingston should be considered as the favorite for now.
Antetokounmpo plays 29 minutes in opener 10-08-2013
Giannis Antetokounmpo F MIL
Giannis Antetokounmpo played 29 minutes in his preseason debut on Tuesday, scoring 14 points with four boards, two assists, two steals, three blocks, one 3-pointer and five turnovers. It's certainly an attention-grabbing line in his first game with all the blocks, steals and threes. Antetokounmpo is a bit of a project at just 18 years old, so his role is undefined right now. Although, the Bucks do not look good at all and they could give him a look in the second half of thee season. He's not on the radar in standard leagues.
Tristan Thompson shoots 7-of-10 in opener 10-08-2013
Tristan Thompson C CLE
Right-handed Tristan Thompson shot 7-of-10 from the field in his first preseason game for 17 points with eight boards, three assists and one block in 25 minutes. It was a nice start for Thompson and it's obvious he put in the work to make such a bold move switching from his left to right hand. He made some nice strides in his second year and could continue to improve this year as the team's starting power forward. If Andrew Bynum misses a lot of time, Thompson could be a very reliable fantasy big, but his percentages will be a bit of an enigma until we have a nice sample size.
Anthony Bennett has shooting issues in debut 10-08-2013
Anthony Bennett F BKN
Anthony Bennett (shoulder) shot 2-of-12 from the field in his debut on Tuesday, totaling seven points, 10 boards and one assist in 23 minutes. He missed all three of his 3-point attempts and didn't have his rhythm yet. Bennett's conditioning is reportedly not yet up to speed, so he's going to need every bit of training camp to acclimate himself to the pro game. He has a lot of tools, so he's a possible player to target late in drafts.
Anderson Varejao grabs 10 boards in return 10-08-2013
Anderson Varejao C GS
Anderson Varejao grabbed 10 boards in his return to the lineup on Tuesday, scoring four points with one assist, two steals and one block in 21 minutes. He was a rebound magnet before suffering a season-ending quad injury last season, pulling down an average of 14.4 boards per game. Varejao's fantasy value is tied directly to Andrew Bynum's status, so with Bynum without a timetable, Varejao could be off to a fast start. Although, we wouldn't advise reaching for him since he has injury problems of his own.
Wes Johnson (foot) won't play Tuesday 10-08-2013
Wesley Johnson F LAC
Wesley Johnson (foot) will not play against the Nuggets on Tuesday.

Mark Medina on Twitter
Johnson is listed as day-to-day with a strain in his foot and had no real shot to play. The team will get an extended look at Xavier Henry, who has arguably been the team's best player so far in preseason action.
Jordan Farmar out for Tuesday night 10-08-2013
Jordan Farmar G LAC
Jordan Farmar (calf) will not play in Tuesday's preseason game.

Mark Medina on Twitter
He is dealing with a strain and isn't well enough to give it a go against the Nuggets. Farmar could make his way into the rotation with some injuries, but he's not on the fantasy radar.
Ersan Ilyasova (right ankle) out for game 10-08-2013
Ersan Ilyasova F PHI
Updating a previous item, Ersan Ilyasova suffered a sprained right ankle will not return to Tuesday's game.

Bucks PR on Twitter
The team has absolutely no reason to bring him back out there and he's very likely to miss Thursday's game against the Wolves. Ilyasova will likely receive some form of further evaluation, so we'll update you as soon as that information is available. John Henson started the second half at power forward and would be in line for a larger role with the short-handed team.
Jermaine O'Neal doesn't make trip to Utah 10-08-2013
Jermaine O'Neal C GS
Jermaine O'Neal didn't make the trip to Utah and will not play in Tuesday's game.

Warriors Stats on Twitter
He has lower back pain and will stay behind. Back issues are nothing new for JO and he's hurt way too often to be a factor in fantasy leagues. If the Warriors want him to have a shot at 60 games played, they're not going to let him play more than 18 minutes per game.
Harrison Barnes doesn't make trip, out Tues. 10-08-2013
Harrison Barnes F DAL
Harrison Barnes (foot) did not make the trip and will not play Tuesday night against the Jazz.

Warriors Stats on Twitter
He suffered the injury in Monday night's game and is dealing with some inflammation. Coach Mark Jackson has been experimenting with Barnes in the starting lineup, but he's still expected to come off the bench. His versatility gives him plenty of places to contribute, so he's a high-upside pick late in drafts.
Ersan Ilyasova sprains ankle on Tuesday 10-08-2013
Ersan Ilyasova F PHI
Ersan Ilyasova appeared to sprain his right ankle in Tuesday's preseason game. He needed assistance to walk back to the locker room and was in some pain. The Bucks losing Ilyasova would be a massive blow for a team that has a gaping hole in the scoring department. If he misses time, John Henson would pick up most of the slack and would gain serious value in fantasy leagues.
Greivis Vasquez will sit out until Monday 10-08-2013
Greivis Vasquez G BKN
Greivis Vasquez (ankle) is expected to make his Kings debut on Monday night against the Clippers.

Yahoo! Sports
He didn't play the preseason opener and Isaiah Thomas ran the show against the Warriors. IT2 did turn the ball over five times, but it wasn't a sub-par game considering it was his first action of the preseason. This is one of the better position battles in the NBA, but both figure to cancel each other out a bit since they're both starting-caliber point guards.
Nicolas Batum diagnosed with a concussion 10-08-2013
Nicolas Batum G CHA
Nicolas Batum was diagnosed with a concussion and will not play against the Suns on Wednesday.

Blazers on Twitter
He'll have to adhere to the NBA's concussion protocol, so it's unclear how long he'll be out. Batum had a hard fall in Tuesday's practice while going up for a dunk against Will Barton, who coincidentally just came back from a concussion. He'll have three weeks to be ready for the season opener, so we'll consider him questionable for now. He's still shaping up to be a second-round pick in most formats.
Stuckey or Billups to start opener at SG? 10-08-2013
Rodney Stuckey G IND
Coach Mo Cheeks said Rodney Stuckey or Chauncey Billups will be his starting shooting guard on opening night.

Vincent Ellis on Twitter
It's not set in stone, but Cheeks said he's "a veterans coach." It's still remotely possible that Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has a tremendous preseason and usurps the role from the vets, but this news does put a dent in his sleeper appeal. Stuckey is on the radar in the late rounds and we'll be watching the Pistons closely all month.
Tony Wroten gets team-high 20 pts w/ four 3s 10-08-2013
Tony Wroten SG MEM
Tony Wroten hit four 3-pointers on his way to a team-high 20 points on Tuesday, as the 76ers beat the Thunder in a preseason game in England. Wroten went 4-of-8 from deep and 6-of-6 from the FT line, with four rebounds, three assists and two steals. His play backs up the Sixers' glowing talk about him during training camp, and he shouldn't have trouble earning minutes in Philly's thin backcourt. The potential for awful FG percentages makes us shy about recommending him, but he's worth watching on the waiver wire.
Earl Clark, C.J. Miles, Gee all in mix at SF 10-08-2013
Earl Clark F BKN
Earl Clark will start at SF for the Cavs on Tuesday, but C.J. Miles will take over at SF in the second half.

Bob Finnan on Twitter
Mike Brown has proclaimed a position battle at SF. Miles is a more proficient offensive player, and Alonzo Gee (hamstring) is also in the mix, but Clark has been and remains the favorite to win the job.
Al Horford (rest) will not play on Tuesday 10-08-2013
Al Horford C BOS
Al Horford (rest) will not play during Tuesday's game.

Chris Vivlamore on Twitter
The Hawks lost Gustavo Ayon (shoulder) for 4-8 weeks and they're wise to take every precaution with Horford. He takes a beating as an undersized center during the regular season, but (excluding his 2011-12 season, which was ruined by a torn pectoral muscle) he's only missed an average of 6.0 games per season in the NBA.
Reggie Jackson posts 29-6-8 in Tuesday's win 10-08-2013
Reggie Jackson G DET
Reggie Jackson led the Thunder with 29 points on 10-of-17 shooting vs. Philadelphia on Tuesday, adding six rebounds, eight assists, one steal and only one turnover in 36 minutes. Jackson picked right up where he left off during last year's playoffs. He will be filling in at PG for Russell Westbrook for at least the first 12 games of the season, and that's assuming WB returns at the earliest point of his timetable. He'll play a major role off the bench even with OKC at full strength, making him a solid guard to target in the later rounds.
Kevin Durant's 21 points, 12 assists lead OKC 10-08-2013
Kevin Durant F GS
Kevin Durant had 21 points and 12 assists to help the Thunder beat the 76ers in an exhibition game in Manchester, England on Tuesday. KD made 9-of-18 field goals, including three 3-pointers, and he added eight rebounds, one steal and one block in 33 minutes. Last year's fantasy MVP didn't any free throws, something that didn't happen a single time during the 2012-13 season, but otherwise it was just another day at the office. He averaged a career-high 4.6 assists last year and should have even more with Russell Westbrook (knee surgery) sidelined to begin the season.
LaMarcus Aldridge (quad) may not play Wed. 10-08-2013
LaMarcus Aldridge F SA
LaMarcus Aldridge (quad) practiced on Tuesday but is questionable for Wednesday's game vs. the Suns. The Blazers have six remaining preseason games and there's no cause for concern even if Aldridge sits out another one on Wednesday as a precaution.
Nicolas Batum leaves practice after hard fall 10-08-2013
Nicolas Batum G CHA
Nicolas Batum left Tuesday's practice after taking a hard fall.

Joe Freeman on Twitter
Batum went up for a dunk and collided with a defender, Will Barton, which sent him tumbling into the basket stanchion. The Blazers examined him but so far there have been no updates about his status.
Heat pick up Norris Cole's 2014-15 option 10-08-2013
Norris Cole G NO
The Heat have picked up Norris Cole's $2 million option for the 2014-15 season.

Ethan Skolnick on Twitter
It's a reasonable salary for Cole, who averaged nearly 20 minutes in 80 appearances last season while knocking down 35.7 percent of his 3-pointers (up from 27.6 percent his rookie year). Unfortunately, he's not a fantasy asset as long as Mario Chalmers is healthy.
Gustavo Ayon (shoulder) ruled out 4-8 weeks 10-08-2013
Gustavo Ayon F ATL
Gustavo Ayon will miss 4-8 weeks after an MRI revealed shoulder inflammation and a strained rotator cuff.

Atlanta Hawks on Twitter
Ayon hurt himself during Monday's exhibition. It's a tough break for the Hawks frontcourt, though fortunately they should have enough depth to compensate for his absence until mid-November or December. Starters Al Horford and Paul Millsap may each play a few extra minutes, as will backups Zaza Pachulia, Pero Antic and Mike Scott.
Channing Frye 'not that far off' from playing 10-08-2013
Channing Frye F CLE
Jeff Hornacek said that Channing Frye is "probably not that far off" from playing in games, and he hopes to have Frye available during the preseason.

Craig Grialou on Twitter
Frye has practiced and participated in full-court scrimmaging, but he's not in good enough shape to jump into full-fledged competition. Though he's likely to start the season with a small bench role, don't be surprised to see Frye's playing time expand as the season rolls along.
Mo Williams (ankle) uncertain about Wednesday 10-08-2013
Mo Williams G DEN
Mo Williams (ankle) practiced on Tuesday but remains questionable to play in Wednesday's exhibition vs. the Suns.

Chris Haynes on Twitter
Williams said he feels good but his sole focus is being ready for the regular season. He was already projected to have a big role leading the second unit, and C.J. McCollum's fractured foot makes Williams' health even more critical.
Kobe Bryant (Achilles) rejoins Lakers on Tue. 10-08-2013
Kobe Bryant G LAL
Kobe Bryant (Achilles) has returned from Germany and is expected to join the Lakers for Tuesday's game in Ontario.

Ramona Shelburne on Twitter
Kobe headed overseas for another round of PRP therapy, which he's raved about in the past. Brian Shaw recently said that he doesn't expect Kobe to play in the Lakers' season opener, which is as close as we've come to a firm update on his timetable.
Dahntay Jones waived by Bulls on Wednesday 10-08-2013
Dahntay Jones SG CLE
Bulls waive G/F Dahntay Jones.

The veteran swingman may earn a minimum contract with another team, but his days of fantasy relevance are over. Chicago's training camp roster now stands at 15 players.
Vasquez, Landry may sit out again Wednesday 10-08-2013
Greivis Vasquez G BKN
Greivis Vasquez (ankle) and Carl Landry (quad) may both sit out Wednesday's preseason game.

Sacramento Bee
"Greivis was a trooper down at training camp, got through almost every practice," Malone said. "But we don't want to rush him ... Carl [Landry], same thing, he's just got a couple of things aching him right now. If he's not 100 percent, we don't want to risk him getting hurt any further." Those quotes from Malone sum up the situation nicely, and both guys are expected to be ready for the Kings' season opener.
Kyle Lowry has minor hand bump on Tuesday 10-08-2013
Kyle Lowry G TOR
Kyle Lowry had a small injury to his hand on Tuesday.

Eric Koreen on Twitter
It sounds to be very minor, but considering Lowry's propensity to miss games for strange reasons, it's worth mentioning. He was a major letdown last year, so he can be a bit of a value in the middle rounds for his well-rounded fantasy impact.
Calderon (hamstring) out for two more games 10-08-2013
Jose Calderon G LAL
Jose Calderon (left hamstring) will miss the next two preseason games.

Earl K. Sneed on Twitter
That means he'll be out until October 14 with his hammy strain. Calderon suffered the injury back on October 2, so he'll have about two weeks off at the minimum. Gal Mekel got the start on Monday and didn't play well, turning the ball over five times and shooting 1-of-5 from the field, so the Mavs need the Spaniard back badly. Calderon should be ready for the opener, but this injury has bumped him down in our rankings due to his injury history.
Avery Bradley has hand wrapped up 10-08-2013
Avery Bradley G BOS
Avery Bradley had his left hand wrapped at Tuesday's practice and doesn't expect to miss any time.

A. Sherrod Blakely on Twitter
He said he hurt it earlier in training camp and doesn't expect to miss any time. Coach Brad Stevens has been a fan of Bradley so far and there's a good chance he's the choice for starting point guard while Rajon Rondo (knee) is rehabbing. Bradley did squander his chance last year, so he might be on a short leash with rookie Phil Pressey behind him.
Enes Kanter says his shoulder is good to go 10-08-2013
Enes Kanter C OKC
Enes Kanter said his surgically-repaired left shoulder is strong than his right.

Aaron Falk on Twitter
"I feel so much better on the court. I'm not even scared," Kanter said. He's all set to take over at center and doesn't have much competition behind him. Kanter is a good bet for a double-double and doesn't have any glaring weaknesses, making him a popular breakout player.
Dante Cunningham back from illness on Tues. 10-08-2013
Dante Cunningham F NO
Dante Cunningham (illness) returned to practice on Tuesday.

TWolves PR on Twitter
He's had flu-like symptoms since Sunday and has been held out of action. Derrick Williams looked good at small forward on Monday, so the Wolves should be more comfortable with Cunningham being their primary backup at power forward.
J.J. Barea back at practice Tuesday 10-08-2013
J.J. Barea G DAL
J.J. Barea (personal) was back at practice on Tuesday.

TWolves PR on Twitter
He's not hurt and just had to step away from the team for a couple days. Barea's minutes might take a little hit with Kevin Martin holding down the fort at shooting guard, but he still has a shot to average double-digit scoring with some steals, dimes and triples.
Alonzo Gee (hamstring) doubtful for Tuesday 10-08-2013
Alonzo Gee F DEN
Alonzo Gee (hamstring) is doubtful to play in Tuesday's preseason game against the Bucks.

Plain Dealer on Twitter
He has a sore right hamstring and hasn't been on any injury reports prior to this news, so it's likely just a minor problem. Gee is going to come off the bench for the Cavs and he's lost a lot of his luster as rotational player after making just 40.8 percent of his shots after the break. He's not worth drafting in standard leagues.
Amare says it's possible he plays in opener 10-08-2013
Amar'e Stoudemire F MIA
Amare Stoudemire (knee) said it's possible he can be ready for the season opener.

Al Iannazzone on Twitter
It's not exactly a ringing endorsement that it's "possible" he will be ready. Stoudemire still doesn't even have a timetable to start running, so it's hard to imagine he'll be ready for game action in three weeks. Andrea Bargnani and Kenyon Martin figure to help fill the void while STAT is on the mend. We're steering clear of Stoudemire in drafts this year.
Harrison Barnes out with inflamed left foot 10-08-2013
Harrison Barnes F DAL
Harrison Barnes was limited by left foot inflammation on Monday and he's expected to sit out Wednesday's exhibition in Utah.

Rusty Simmons on Twitter
The slight chance that he could play suggests this isn't a serious concern, and the Warriors have plenty of incentive to play it safe with their second-year forward. Barnes started the first two preseason games ahead of Klay Thompson, but Thompson started the second half on Monday and should stay there until Barnes is healthy.
Gustavo Ayon (shoulder) returns to Atlanta 10-08-2013
Gustavo Ayon F ATL
Hawks big man Gustavo Ayon (right shoulder) has returned to Atlanta for further examinations.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution
He hurt himself in Monday's game and we'll consider him day-to-day until a medical update is provided. Mike Scott, who has impressed coaches and teammates all summer, stepped up in Ayon's absence on Monday with 13 points and six boards in 21 minutes.
Luigi Datome out Tuesday w/ hamstring injury 10-08-2013
Luigi Datome G BOS
Luigi Datome's recent hamstring injury will keep him on the sidelines for Tuesday's home preseason opener.

Vincent Ellis on Twitter
Datome "felt something" when he injured himself on Saturday, which is mildly ominous, but there haven't been any updates suggesting it's a long-term injury. The Italian forward will be battling Kyle Singler and Jonas Jerebko for backup minutes this season.
Peyton Siva still out w/ strained right calf 10-08-2013
Peyton Siva G ORL
Peyton Siva (right calf) won't play in Tuesday's exhibition.

Vincent Ellis on Twitter
He strained his calf on Thursday and remains day-to-day. Though the injury isn't serious, the missed time makes it even more unlikely that he'll emerge as part of Detroit's deep backcourt rotation.
Greg Monroe (hamstring) cleared to play Tues. 10-08-2013
Greg Monroe C MIL
Greg Monroe (hamstring) will be in the starting lineup for Tuesday's exhibition vs. Maccabi Haifa.

Vincent Goodwill on Twitter
We'll get our first up-close look at Detroit's new frontcourt, in which Monroe will be asked to clear space for Drummond down low by focusing on his mid-range game. Monroe's hamstring isn't a concern and he'll earn extra minutes as Detroit's backup center this season, making him a solid pick in the late-middle rounds.
Chauncey Billups to start at SG on Tuesday 10-08-2013
Chauncey Billups G DET
Chauncey Billups will start alongside Brandon Jennings in the Pistons backcourt on Tuesday.

Vincent Goodwill on Twitter
Mo Cheeks said earlier this week that the SG job "probably comes down to" Kentavious Caldwell-Pope or Rodney Stuckey, according to Pistons writer David Mayo. Billups' start in a preseason game may not change the regular-season equation, but it's a reminder that the veteran will still cut into the backcourt playing time of KCP, Stuckey and Will Bynum. "I'm going to always consider myself a starter, but like I said, I'm not here to be the star of this team," Billups said. "If I'm the best player on this team, we're not going to be in the playoffs ... I'm here to help. I'm here to support them."

Jenkins isn't traveling with Atlanta for their first two preseason games, and there's added concern because he missed two months this season while recovering from a back injury. His day-to-day outlook is encouraging but his fantasy outlook has already dimmed with Kyle Korver starting at SG.
Josh McRoberts (toe) probable to play Tuesday 10-08-2013
Josh McRoberts F MIA
Josh McRoberts (toe) is expected to play on Tuesday, but Steve Clifford said that he's "a ways away" from being in game shape.

Charlotte Observer
"Josh has had so little time on the court he's not nearly ready to play from a conditioning standpoint, nor a rhythm standpoint," Clifford said. The injury has been a nagging concern for a few years and it may have already cost McRoberts the starting PF job, which will belong to rookie Cody Zeller on Tuesday.
J.R. Smith (knee) isn't traveling w/ Knicks 10-08-2013
J.R. Smith G CLE
J.R. Smith (knee) isn't traveling with New York for their first three preseason games.

It's unclear when Smith will resume on-court activities. He also faces a five-game suspension whenever he's healthy enough to play. Mike Woodson recently declared that J.R. is a candidate to start at SG, despite his success in a reserve role last year, but he'll have to beat out a healthy Iman Shumpert for the job.
76ers starters to log heavy preseason minutes 10-08-2013
Spencer Hawes F MIL
76ers coach Brett Brown said that his starters will play "big minutes" during the preseason.

Philadelphia Inquirer & Daily News
Brown admitted after Sunday's game that "even [the Sixers'] big guys are not physical," and he said that team rebounding will be crucial for Philly to get into the win column. He wants his key players in "ready-to-go fitness shape" for the season opener, which means we'll see plenty of Michael Carter-Williams, James Anderson, Evan Turner, Thaddeus Young, Spencer Hawes and Lavoy Allen in the coming weeks.
Sam Dalembert off to a rocky start in Dallas 10-08-2013
Samuel Dalembert C DAL
Samuel Dalembert (back) said he feels "fine" after receiving anti-inflammatory medication, but Rick Carlisle openly questioned his conditioning.

ESPN Dallas
"I just told him in front of the whole team that he's got to keep working," said Carlisle. "We need his minutes ... When he's in shape, he's a factor as a rim protector and rebounder." Dalembert was also suffering from a "case of the sniffles" during Monday's awful performance, when foul trouble and turnovers limited him to just 11 minutes of action, but we won't list him on the injury report unless he sits out practice or an exhibition
Norris Cole aware of recent trade rumors 10-08-2013
Norris Cole G NO
Norris Cole is aware of recent rumors that the Heat might trade him, but he said he's "comfortable" in Miami.

South Florida Sun-Sentinel
Cole's challenge is to play more consistently this year, while improving his playmaking skills. "Steady progress," Erik Spoelstra said. "The ability to run the team, get other people involved, make other players better consistently every possession, those things he will continue to make strides in." With Mario Chalmers healthy and both LeBron James and Dwyane Wade ready to initiate the offense, there isn't much fantasy upside for Cole.
Stephen Curry knocks down four 3s, scores 23 10-08-2013
Stephen Curry G GS
Stephen Curry made four 3-pointers in Monday's win over the Kings, scoring 23 points with three boards and six assists in 27 minutes. Andre Iguodala had five steals to go with seven points, three boards and three assists in 32 minutes during his second game with the team. As for Curry, the beat goes on as the NBA's best 3-point shooter and he's a heavy favorite to retain his 3-pointers made crown from last season.
DeAndre Jordan blocks four shots in win 10-08-2013
DeAndre Jordan C LAC
DeAndre Jordan put on a show at Portland on Monday, finishing with 16 points, eight boards, four blocks and two steals in 21 minutes. He even made 4-of-5 from the line in the win. DJ had Robin Lopez's number and he completely controlled the paint in the first half. We've seen this movie before with Jordan, so take this line with a grain of salt. He's worked on his offensive game, but his issues at the line will keep him from being a strong fantasy asset.
Carl Landry gets the night off on Monday 10-08-2013
Carl Landry PF PHI
Carl Landry didn't get off the bench on Monday night at Golden State. It looks to be just a night off for the newly-acquired big man and there have been no reports of injury. Landry will compete with Jason Thompson for minutes, so he'll have a lower upside while providing solid percentages.
Greivis Vasquez sits out on Monday night 10-08-2013
Greivis Vasquez G BKN
Greivis Vasquez did not play against the Warriors on Monday night. He was with the team and coach Mike Malone just wanted to keep him rested. Vasquez spent most of his summer rehabbing his ankle, but he has been in practice and is ready to compete for the starting job. No player had more total assists than GV last year, but the timeshare with Isaiah Thomas will hurt his value.
Chris Paul looks like Chris Paul in debut 10-08-2013
Chris Paul G LAC
Chris Paul scored 15 points with eight boards, five assists and two steals in 24 minutes against the Blazers on Monday. He made 9-of-10 from the line and didn't turn the ball over. CP3 led the NBA in assists-to-turnover ratio and is still the prototypical point guard in the league. Paul will be off the board in the top five for just about any fantasy league.
